"Delightfully stylish, with a remarkably elegant breakfast buffet"
We stayed at the Lace Market Hotel for two nights in late September. In a quiet street, it is delightfully stylish. Our room overlooked a lovely 14th century church where the Sheriff of Nottingham arrested Robin Hood after he was recognized by a monk he’d robbed. The well-appointed room was a double ensuite, recently decorated in white accented with bright magenta, orange and purple, with lively wall art and four wonderfully fluffy bed pillows. The ensuite bathroom was smartly updated, impeccably clean, with upscale shampoo, conditioner and lotion for guest use. Our rate included the remarkably elegant breakfast buffet and a cooked breakfast of our choice from the menu, in a beautiful, airy dining room. The buffet is simply gorgeous, with everything from perfectly ripe, fresh pears and sliced oranges and a variety of melons, to large pecan halves and other nuts, dried dates and apricots, cereals, and pastries including pain au chocolat (chocolate-filled croissants). The staff is friendly and helpful, and all the local sights, along with shops, restaurants, and wine bars, are within easy walking distance. It would be helpful if the hotel’s website would offer walking directions from the Nottingham train station, because we got lost upon our arrival and wasted time and energy finding the hotel, which is really a short walk up Middle Hill, with a right turn onto High Pavement.
"Dated rooms but good service"
Reception were very friendly and helpful. However, the rooms were very dated especially the bathrooms - it looks as though they haven't been touched since the hotel was first opened! The hotel needs a renovation.
"A stylish stay"
We visited Nottingham for one night and the Lace Market Hotel proved to be a great choice for somewhere to stay. We were unable to check in as we had arrived early, but the team looked after our bags and then transferred them to our room once it was ready. The room was large, with a comfortable bed, and a great view out on to the church. The bathroom was clean and well equipped with a great shower and products. There were bottles of water by the bed - a small touch but one I always welcome. It doesn't cost hotels much to do this, but very few do. There were decent tea-making facilities also. We had a drink in the bar after our meal out, which was pleasantly busy with a good atmosphere. In the morning, we had a delightful breakfast from a comprehensive menu. I think there may have been some staff absence, so the receptionist looked after us - and did so well. I loved that she pointed out she wasn't the expert at this but would do all she could do help. And she did. Lovely, human, service. The food was great. Overall, a great stay. I would go back.
"Fabulous in every way."
I booked this as anniversary present for my husband and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is in a lovely area away from all the hustle and bustle of the city centre but still only a few minutes walk to the shops etc. There are lots of restaurants and bars all within walking distance. The carpark is just around the corner too and hotel guests get a discounted rate. The hotel is in an old Georgian building and has been renovated beautifully. We had a deluxe double room 35 with a gorgeous view of the church nextdoor. The room was spacious with a great bathroom and Orla Kiely products! We didn't eat in the hotel restaurant but the menu looked lovely and when we popped our head in it was really busy. After dinner out we went back to the hotel bar for drinks. The cocktails were amazing and the service was spot on. The two bar staff were a credit to the hotel, specially the lovely Sicilian barman who couldn't do enough to help. The same barman was working at breakfast too and was so professional and great at his job. There was a buffet area with cereals, fruit and pasties and then your order is taken for a hot breakfast. The choice was fantastic with variations like pancakes, waffles, muffins with eggs and spinach all made fresh for you. We opted for the full English. This was super fresh and tasty and very hot which is not something all hotels get right. We really enjoyed our visit here and will definitely be back.
"Beautiful hotel with great staff"
Stayed 2 nights - and can’t say a bad thing. Beautiful hotel, good room with comfy bed and great shower. The breakfast is definitely the best I have had in a hotel in a while so worth including - great choice of juices, fruit, warm breakfast. And if all of this wasn’t enough this hotel has an amazing group of people working there. Always smiling, helpful and making your stay just that little bit more special - A big thank you! Worth every penny
