Comfortable space with modern decor centrally located to most shops and restaurants. Hotel room could use more light and electrical outlets near night stand.Comment of C. Mani , United States the 2016-03-16
"Over priced and under serviced"
We stayed three nights at the end of May. We had a double room and it was tiny. My sister had a room for the same nights but somehow managed to pay half of what we did. The location is convenient although in a not so great part of town. Tons of homeless people and there was often the smell of marijuana outside the hotel. I'd recommend not using the hotel parking, there's a private lot right at the back of the hotel that's about $20 cheaper per night. They insisted that we have someone help us with our bags when we arrived so we had to tip them. We were charged twice for parking (they did credit it when I checked our bill after we had left). The cocktail hour is also extremely disappointing. Only one type of wine available, no beverages for children, and the pizza they had ran out after 20 minutes and they never brought any more out. Would not stay here again. The rooms were clean but could do with a bit of updating (carpet was well worn), they also need to get some coffee facilities in the room. There was a refrigerator but it was overstocked with their expensive snacks and beverages so no room for anything we brought in ourselves.
"EXCELLENT SERVICE AND STAY!"
I believe in giving praise where it's due and it's most definitely due. Without a doubt, this was the BEST stay we've had in San Francisco. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the ever-so-sweet, Natalie. She was extremely friendly, professional, well-informed and very hospitable. Natalie really went the extra mile for us (in more ways than one) she even offered our little dog a treat- which she did enjoy once we were up in our room. We immediately felt right at home and that meant a lot to us since we are traveling with our dog for the very first time. Everything about the hotel was exceptional. The room was clean, stylish, roomy, well-equipped and comfortable. Thank you so very much, Natalie and staff, for the great first impression of The Marker. We will most certainly recommend it and will be back, hopefully, very soon.
"I spent the weekend prior to a Monday / Tuesday training session in Oakland"
I can't say enough about this hotel! Located in the heart of the Theater District, it was easy walking to a number of areas, including The Wharf. The vibe in the area at night was also entertaining. I was struck by the elegance of the lobby ~ a granite staircase leading to a beautiful piece of artwork, surrounded by impressive architecture, a large marble fireplace and a sense of what used to be in art-deco hotels. The room was clean and the bed oh so comfortable! Loved the design and architecture in the hallway as well. Lots of color. My breakfast in the restaurant was also delicious. Huge shout outs to Natalie and Eddie at the front desk, who were so very helpful and accommodating with suggestions and directions. They were very genuine and seemed to enjoy their responsibilities. Overall superior customer service throughout! And to Amanda in the bar, who didn't ever let my breakfast coffee go cold. A definite return is in store! Absolutely perfect! TJ Evergreen CO
"Really wonderful stay and would definitely stay again but room service needs some improvement"
Location and amenities, perfect. Concierge and front desk folks, fabulous. Decor and cleanliness, spot on. Overall stay, very pleasant. Room service, well, there's some kinks that need to be worked out. I hardly write reviews, however, Eddie, the guy to whom I voiced my concerns, was very nice and asked that I write a review of my experience, so here I am. Inconvenience #1 - A surprise gift delivery mix-up (Thursday 6/15) - So, my family planned a whole surprise trip to SF for my 30th and part of that surprise was a card and a bottle of champagne. Instead, I received my card and a bottle of red wine. Delivery guy mentioned he'd be right back with chocolates. I called my father to say "thanks for the surprise wine" when he mentioned it was supposed to be champagne. He called the front desk and got it sorted out. Turns out there was a wedding party and the bride had my same first name. She received my bubbly and her chocolates, I received her red wine. Problem was solved promptly - I got to keep the wine and ended up getting my bottle of champagne as well. Shout out to Oscar at the front desk for being so wonderful in arranging the surprise and for handling the mixup so diligently. Inconvenience #2 - A 6am courtesy call mix-up (Sunday 6/18) - When I met up with my mom for breakfast, she mentioned to me that her hotel room phone rang and rang at 6am and when she picked it up, no one was on the line. Ok, so once again, I understand there might have been a mixup of some sort. Even so, my mom was not the happiest at being woken up so early for no reason. Inconvenience #3 - A 5:45am delivery mix-up (Monday 6/19) - Ok, so three inconveniences are when it's time to complain, (at least in my book). So what was the kicker' Being woken up too early in the morning for no reason whatsoever. I woke up to a loud banging on my door, (which I'm sure the other hotel guests heard as well) and opened it in a groggy state. Delivery guy asked me, "did you order razors'" as he held up two razors. I said "no, I didn't". Then both the delivery guy and I heard a man on his walkie talkie say "hey, it's room 173". I was in room 721. We both looked at each other and he apologized profusely and I went back inside. Problem is, neither I nor my boyfriend could back to sleep. It was a long, sleep deprived morning and afternoon we seeing the last of SF before taking a long flight back to NYC that same day. We arrived in NYC at 2am the following day especially exhausted. Long-winded story short, guest services, please double and triple-check your guests's room numbers - it isn't fun being woken up ridiculously early on your vacation when you didn't request it. Inconveniences aside, next time I'm back in SF, I'll look to stay at The Marker once again but will inquire about updates to your guest services before doing so.
"Summer of love"
I was so excited after I won this trip to San Francisco, and The Marker was superb! The food was delicious at Tratto! The staff was friendly and helpful with great knowledge of the local area. The entertainment in the living room, Suzanne Kramer, was fantastic!
