"Another Exceptional Stay"
This was our third vacation to The Royal and it was just as wonderful as the previous two. The only complaint that we have (which is not The Royal's fault) is that the beach has changed over the past 7 years. There is a lot of seaweed and rough waves now (possibly the effect of past storms & the dreaded global warming effect) when in the past it was calm and no seaweed. However that is not enough to prevent our returning to The Royal for another vacation. The service is as exceptional as always. Fernando Jimenez (front bell boy) meets you with a smile and friendly handshake and engages you in pleasant conversation while your bags are being unloaded. David Davilla the concierge then greeted us with a smile and made sure we were comfortable and told us that if we needed anything or had any questions just ask for him as he is here to help us enjoy our stay. Jose Garza then came by and greeted us with a warm and friendly smile also and told us that if there is anything we need or had issues with to contact him. Our housekeeper for the week (Veronica Garcia) was wonderful. Our room was always ready when it needed to be with fresh towels etc. Her towel animals and flower petals always impressed my wife. She is a lovely lady.Tania Alanys ( Hostess at Spice in the evening) is wonderful at her job. She is charming, friendly, and very helpful-a true gem of The Royal. She offered to get my wife's meal for her ( as she is disabled and has mobility issues) on more than one occasion. Her staff especially Julia Barragan (gave us a hug our last night at Spice) & Maximiliano Morales are top notch also-very pleasant, friendly and warm. They cannot do enough for you while you are at Spice. Jose Garcia (Spice) always greeted us with a friendly hello. He helped my wife to her seat and made sure everything was O.K. Viviana Vicente the cocktail waitress outside of Spice (evening) smoking area is unbelievable. She is charming, friendly, warm and fun, we always enjoyed talking to her-she is great!! The hostess at El Mediterraneo (Karina) is charming, friendly, & helpful. Efren one of the waiters at El Mediterraneo is exceptional. He is very friendly, polite, fun kind & great to talk to- he is great at his job. The staff at The Coffee House (Janeth & Edson) are wonderful. They are extremely busy but always find time to engage in friendly conversations. All the staff at The Royal do their jobs exceptionally, from the front staff-be it desk,or Mgt, to food service staff, house keeping, landscaping workers, pool staff everyone!! We did not meet all the staff at The Royal but everyone that walked by us greeted us with a smile and an "ola" (with hand over their heart) . That is what sets The Royal at Playa del Carmen apart from other resorts-The Exceptional Service!!!

"Nice Hotel -- Easy Location"
We stayed at The Royal for a friend's wedding. Loved the hotel, staff, food, beach, hotel entertainment, pool. The pool was very active especially in the middle of the day. Being more beach people we found we needed to claim spots by 9 am. The ferry to Cozumel is LITERALLY 20 yards for the property. Downtown/5th St. is also yards away from the hotel ( we found downtown to be very safe). This location makes it so easy if you want to explore a little more . The hotel also has plenty of nightly entertainment if you don't want to leave the resort.
"In love with this place"
Easy to understand why it's a 5 DIAMONDS hotel! Great and clean rooms. Location is very nice because the hotel is a minute away from 5th Avenue Playa Del Carmen where there are many shops, restaurants, night clubs and bars. It's very lively and secure. People are amazing. If you go there you MUST meet the Animation Team : Carla, Victor, Daniel, Sergio, Israel, Yasmine. They are the sweetest, most energetic people and most fun. I am 22 years old and I went with my parents and thanks to them, my stay was so much fun even if I did not have friends coming with me! They became friends and we had a lot of fun with all the dancing and activities (zumba, aqua gym, tequila/wine/martini tasting, foam party, bike tour, etc). Also, Excellent restaurants and service. We ate the best seafood! The waiters are so experienced and know how to make every meal feel like a royal experience! All the details are taken care of. Make sure you are served by Christian at Spice'd and Rodolfo at Pelicanos. Barmen are so talented, they make the perfect surprise drinks ! N.B. free wifi everywhere in the resort!!
"Still The Best"
We just returned from a eleven day stay at the Royal. This being our fourteenth stay over the years, we have seen a lot of changes, from the staff, food, amenities, and entertainment. Some good, some bad. With that being said, sad to see that many of the longtime loyal employees have decided to leave due to many of the changes, salaries, and lack of loyalty from upper management. What has made the Royal over the years stand out from all the rest has been their employees, and management to make their guess feel special. Well you can see the gradual change to the business side and that’s why many of the employees are leaving and so will the guess. While there we did experience a few small problems. We had periodic noisy plumbing/sewer issues and problems with our keys every day until the lock system was changed out, but our concierges in the COBA wing did all they could to resolve the matters. But the positives outweighed the negatives. Once we arrived we were greeted by the entire bell boy staff, including Cano and William who were glad to see us again. Our check in was quick and smooth when our dear friend Alex spotted us and insisted on checking us in. Mireya was also happy to see us again. The weather, restaurants, and staff were all just wonderful, just as in the past. Each morning when I walked in the coffee shop, Edgar handed me my Latte coffee and strawberry crepe. At El Mediterraneo my favorite hostess and daughter Jessenia would greet me with a smile and hug along with my good friend captain Rebecca. And then chef Loida would make me a special breakfast. The entire team at Pelicanos for breakfast and lunch are still awesome, with the leadership of Mario including our favorite chef Rudy, who made us special lunches numerous days. New to the team and should not be over looked is hostess Maria, with her smile and engaging conversations. Also at Spice Viridiana made me excellent omelets and waiter Javier would make sure we were not in need of anything. Our housekeeper Maria Pech did a spectacular job each day and I want to mention the young lady whom I cannot remember her name that is responsible for sweeping in Pelicanos and the surrounding area was awesome. She was always so focus on her work but if you walked by her she would smile and greet you. The staff at Asiana were great as well, but our favorites are Jorge and Manuel. We enjoyed being taken care of by our favorite butlers Marco and Jaime. We missed Blanca due to her working in the office. And our favorite pool waiter and waitresses Lopez, Vicenta, Laura, Prude, and the one that works in the coffee shop in the morning. We also enjoyed being taken care of by our favorite bartenders of Arbey, Mattius, Raul, Luis, Mario, and Mauro. The massages around the pool is a nice treat as well. The team led by Valeria did a nice job of giving a free five minute massage each day. When one of the guess had a slight foot issue after during Zumba, Valeria even went to her seat and massaged her feet for at least thirty minutes. We also had an opportunity to see Natalia who was on the entertainment staff a few years, but recently left. She works at many of the resorts for Aqua Excursions and arranged to work at the Royal one of the days to get to see us. Also while walking on 5th avenue ran across an old hostess at Asiana that left last year to work at Disney, Gabriela who’s back in the area working and was surprise to see me and talked about the pass at working at the Royal. The ones that really stand out as always are the entertainment staff because their job is to engage the guest and make sure they are having a good time. It starts with leadership and the new captain Elvis sets a good example compared to the one they had before Miguel. He speaks to the guest and is willing to dance or do the activities. And then you have Victor who has been there a long time and I’m afraid they may lose him at some point, Israel, Carla who is so engaging and active, Jazmine who is one month new but so loving and caring. She even gave my wife and I two personal gifts, Daniel (Zumba) , and Sergio (M.J) . To end our stay before our transfer picked us up, we ate at Asiana where our favorite hostess Jessenia was working that afternoon. Numerous days she would walk to the pool area just to say hi between shifts. When it was time for us to say goodbye she could not do it. She even helped my wife carry her bags to our transfer and cried as we got in. That is what separates the Royal from other resorts and will keep us coming back
