"Very pleasant hotel"
I really enjoyed my one night stay in this hotel - the hotel is ideally situated next to the train station and a 10 minute walk into town. The decor is beautifully soft and relaxing and I was given a surprise upgrade to a huge room with a massive bathroom including a claw foot bath. The room was quiet, the bed was comfortable and I had a wonderful nights sleep. I also dined in the restaurant which had the most incredible plaice dish with fennel (whatever was on the fish should be bottled!) and one of the best desserts I have ever had the pleasure of tasting. The only slight hiccup was the breakfast as the coffee took 10 minuets to arrive and the poached eggs were over cooked and lukewarm but that’s a minor niggle for an otherwise lovey stay.
I have stayed in many 5 star hotels across the world and I have to say the main communal areas of the hotel are one of the nicest I have experienced.. whoever designed these areas and lighting did an amazing job. However the standard double room inside the hotel kind of fell flat against the high quality finish of the main hotel areas.. the room was very small, extremely hot (fan was useless) and the frequent smell of sewage was slightly off putting. The staff within the hotel and The Chapter House Bar were amazing. Breakfast was lovely, but got very busy! Would definitely stay here again.
"Superb Conference Venue"
100 discerning conference delegates enjoyed a very busy two days late in November 2017. Reserved car parking was efficient. Room was in annexe - ok it is a walk from the bars but it’s all undercover and carpeted. Room comfortable and lacked nothing. The free tuck box is a nice touch and appreciated. Superb conference facilities with 7 star hospitality and service. Formal dinner the first evening was a truely superb affair. Faultless food and service. The staff could not have been more helpful. Breakfast was an example of true Yorkshire hospitality. I wonder just what some critics expect - I am not easily pleased nor afraid to be critical but I have no hesitation in highly recommending this hotel.
This was our first visit to York, we travelled by train so the hotel location is excellent. The hotel is lovely, the staff are friendly and very polite, our room was excellent, breakfast was very good. We also enjoyed the leisure facilities.
"One of the most Oppulent Hotels in York"
The Principle is a huge Hotel that has pretty much every creature comfort covered, the outstanding features are the public rooms lounges and Bars .They are quite simply breath-taking, a huge central stair case leading up to room's with hundreds of mirrors looks like some thing out of a very luxurious Hogwarts. The subtle colour scheme is instantly relaxing. The weather on the morning of our second day was terrible. But a morning spent relaxing in the lounge with the Sunday papers after a swim in the pool was a real treat.
