The Scarlet Huntington is located in the upscale Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California. The neighborhood is known for its 19th-century architecture, as well as its famous attractions such as Union Square, the Theater District, and Chinatown, all walking distance from the hotel. For those traveling around the city, the hotel is conveniently located on the California Street cable car line. San Francisco International Airport is 15 miles/24 km from the hotel, and Oakland International Airport is 20 miles/30 km from the hotel.

"Great Stay in San Fran"
My wife and I stayed here while on vacation and really enjoyed the hotel. The room was huge and we booked a normal room with a king bed. The restaurant downstairs, The Big 4, is amazing and the location is great. The service is good as well, we will definitely stay here next time we come.
"Hilly climb to the Huntington "
Either pack light and lose weight or be prepared to take either a taxi or the cable car to get to this hotel! Being in Nob Hill has it's benefits (very few, if any homeless people), but the down side is the steep hills surrounding the property. Our king junior suite was a great size with seating area and good sized bathroom. But the furniture decor is very, very gaudy. I think this detracted from the ambiance - a more contemporary, comfortable look and feel would be more welcoming. Being on the Hill meant a lot of squealing car tires, starting on the incline at the intersections (Taylor side). But the windows were very effective in minimizing the noise so that helped with sleeping. And a real bonus was that the windows opened, both in the bedroom and the bathroom - something that you don't get in many of the newer, modern hotels. It was nice to get some fresh air. The major letdown was the spa and fitness "centre". The pool is very small and the staff actively tell you that lap swimming is not allowed! It apparently disturbs the ambiance and tranquility they are striving for. And the fitness centre, as other reviewers noted, is a converted (very small) hotel room, still with a bathroom. Bizarre. And beware, there is now a $40 per day charge per person to access the spa for hotel guests. I certainly wouldn't mind paying if the amenities were worthy of such a high rate. I complained to the hotel manager that the hotel facility guide in the room states that the spa is complimentary for the guests (they haven't managed to change that) and that when I booked, the web site stated that the spa was included for guests. After much discussion with other staff, he agreed to comp the access for our stay. The California cable car line really was the best way to get to this hotel. If you have packed a large suitcase, you will never be able to walk it up the hills. So buy a muni- pass that gets you unlimited cable car rides. There is an excellent restaurant two blocks from the hotel - the Nob Hill Cafe. We ate there twice and had excellent pasta, pizza and chicken parmigiana. We heard that there is often a lengthy wait but both times we got in less than 5 minutes. This a safe place to stay, but in my opinion highly over priced.
A gorgeous hotel situated right on top of Nob Hill, right near Grace Cathedral and opposite a lovely public open space / park. We were upgraded to a jaw dropping Executive Room with outstanding views of the Cathedral and San Francisco skyline to the Bay. The room was beautifully appointed, lovely decor, very large with bedroom, sitting room, dressing room, bathroom and study areas. Bed very comfortable and bathroom was great. Spotlessly clean. We knew we were on a winner when locals we had met, upon finding out we were staying at The Scarlet Huntington, exclaimed it was The Best hotel in the city and the preferred hotel choice for locals. All staff were welcoming and professional, they looked very slick in their uniforms and were very helpful. Upscale restaurant on site, we thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts, dinner and evening drinks there. We thought it was great value for money, whilst not budget priced the hotel is reasonably priced, in our opinion. We really enjoyed our stay at The Scarlet Huntington.
The location is a bit away from the more congested parts of the city in a good location. The staff is friendly, and the rooms are clean, comfortable well appointed, and quiet. The bar has a very clubby feel, with dark wood and comfy leather chairs and a pianist. A great place to stay.
"Great location! "
We stayed here for two nights. It was a perfect location for exploring the city. Upon arrival, we were greeted with very friendly doorman named James. At check in, we were instantly upgraded to a junior suite. The hallway to our room was a bit stinky, so I had my fingers crossed. Our room was huge! (And not stinky!). Very spacious & comfortable. We had views of Grace cathedral. I'm not a huge fan of the decor, but it's clean & comfortable. Our room included a seating area, small fridge, kuerig, and desk area. Bathroom was very spacious as well. We ordered room service for breakfast twice. Very nice display, table wheeled right in. It was expensive. We only ordered one omelette & it was big enough for two. (With toast & coffee). It was nice having the restaurant attached. We walked through the spa & pool. It was very nice, we did not use it. The pool is only open to 16 & over. (Important to know for families!). The gym is a small room. It's basic, clean & simple. No treadmill. I would recommend this hotel, and I would stay here again.
