"Sheer Bliss "
We had wanted to stay at The Shore for a couple of years now but never got round to it m. We had a Seaview Pool Villa. It was exquisite! We were further up the hill but the on-site buggy’s make that simple. The people are just fantastic, whether it’s the reception team, the buggy boys, room attendants or the onsite security with their smart salute and big smile every time you pass - nothing is too much trouble and their behind the scenes communication makes everything seem magical. We were celebrating a big birthday and had asked for help organising a private boat tour of the Phi Phi islands. Joy, with the tours team was outstanding in terms of options, speed of response and knowledge in general. It felt like the whole resort team knew we were keeping it a secret and were in on it with us! They were impeccable. The Shore is worth every penny of the rate they charge. Once you arrive they make it easy for you in terms of the holiday you want to have - if you’ve saved up and sunk everything into the room rate and spending is tighter - then on site shops sell super cheap beers and wines - or you can use the mini bar which in fairness is NOT over the top in pricing for hotels of this standard. The are loads of onsite restaurants you can eat at via the sister hotel, less than a five min walk away. You can use their facilities, but they cannot use yours. It really is an oasis! Then of course there’s the huge number of restaurants in the local area so you had eat as cheaply or not as you wish (4 of us had a mountain of outstanding Thai food, beer and wine for £35!) and cheap does not = poor quality in Thailand! The only thing they could do better is a mosquito net over the bed and a little more aggressive daily focus on them. That said, it’s not a huge thing but we are more susceptible to them than most. All in all, it’s outstanding! Property, service, overall guest experience and genuine and sincere. A real wow hotel!
"Perfect Peace and Beauty"
If you are looking to eat wonderful food, stay in magnificent accommodation, receive excellent service, have quiet time without children and direct access to a beach that rivals the best around, then you're a candidate for The Shore at Katathani. The accommodation is luxurious (especially suite 8812) and you get a spacious, absolutely private huge bedroom, a large double bathroom, separate bath, toilet and shower spaces, a dressing room, plenty hanging space, a well stocked mini bar & kitchenette, outdoor private infinity pool and private entrance to your villa. The staff are especially attentive and after one day knew who we were and what kind of coffee we liked. The Shore is a rare find and one that treats luxury as normal.
"Beautiful villas. Lacks customer service."
Overall we had a great time, but additional training for the staff is needed as they are missing important details that make a property worthy of a 5 star rating: Food: It’s ok. We are foodies, and were disappointed with the flavors. Particularly after trying some amazing Thai food in Bangkok. The meals were incongruent with the prices (and served in tiny portions), but we opted for room service due to the privacy advantage. The breakfast is included, but the meal menu is very limited. However, room service will take requests so just call. Yesterday they forgot the sausage, and today they forgot the French toasts. We called and they brought them over, but sent honey instead of syrup! We didn’t call to address this, but were pretty annoyed. Facility: Gorgeous. Truly exceptional. The views are heavenly and the details in the villas are stunning. Everything looks just like in the pictures, but as others have commented the mattress is a bit on the hard side. For us it was not a deal breaker, but it’s the first time in all of our travels that we’ve encountered a mattress that is so firm. If you’re looking to party while in Phuket realize that the property is far removed from the night life. However, Patong beach is 30 mins away, this is where all the action is at. Hotel can arrange for a taxi pick up, cost is $15 one way. Customer service: We had better customer service in Bangkok. Airport pick up staff lacked customer service, perhaps there is a language barrier, but the man who greeted us barely even spoke to us while we waited for the vehicle. The driver was nicer and gave us tips as to where to go for shopping, etc. Lobby staff needs to spend more time with guests upon arrival explaining the property lay out and location of the restaurants. This sort of welcome is standard at most 5 star properties. Spa staff: Amazing hands! We enjoyed our Paradise at the Shore packages thoroughly, but the staff can benefit from training to refine their customer service. I’ve never had an herbal steam before, and the lady was gone before I could ask any questions. I figured out what I needed to do, but it would have been nice if she walked me through the process, not just utter some words and rush out. No indication as to where my clothes could be laid out, or the sandals are here, etc. Room mini bar: Lacking selections. I was in the mood for vodka and cranberry at 130am, but the mini bar only offers beers, sodas and water. Mini bar wasn’t replenished one day and I had to call for beers. When they brought them over they were warm! Who wants warm beers' Again, it’s all about the small details. Beach: warm waters and pretty safe. Beautiful teal color. Unfortunately there is some debris on the beach. Plastic bottles, a condom wrap! I am picky about the little details, so if these aren’t important to you, I would say book this resort because the views and the villas are one of a kind! Nevertheless, I wanted to offer my feedback because in my opinion this is not a 5 star property. It has the potential to be, but further customer service training is needed. While in Bangkok we were blown away by the customer service so the standards were set very high. To the management: Develop your employees, help them refine their skills. It’s all about the little details! Establish a beach clean up crew, we’ve seen this done in other countries and it helps keep the beach pristine for your customers. Also place trash cans on the beach area. On Monday there was a huge puddle of water right below the beach stairs, under the water a pretty deep hole and I almost fell. The lifeguard saw the whole thing happened and never offered any assistance. Furthermore, why wasn’t the hole filled to avoid accidents. It was almost 1130 am by the time we made it to the beach. Lastly, your email reminder about check out time is pretty tacky. Seriously, no other resort has ever done this, and it comes across as rude. Perhaps the intent is to help, but to receive it on Tuesday morning when we still had a full day left, and to attach the bill to it, it’s tasteless. We are coming back next year as Thailand has stolen our hearts, but we will not stay here again.
"That View Though....."
Villa #8851 The only downside to the time here was the upside of the stairway! Had to work a bit for the view from the villa. At least we were not allowed to carry our bags up them(I felt for that poor guy that did;). Breakfast every morning in the villa out on the deck at the time of your choosing. Get order in and in the message bag on door knob before 9pm local time. We also ordered lunch and a few dinners up to our villa. Suppose that is a good problem to have(not wanting to leave your private paradise). We ate down at the restaurant was a fine meal and decent view. Honestly felt as if you were hanging on the beach all day with the view we had. Games of dominoes on the bed or out on the deck. The lizards were cute and bugs were minimal. We did manage to make it down to the beach a few afternoons with a stop at the 7-11 for water and snacks, super convenient. Met Karl the Lemur on one of the beach days! Vendors that approached your towel were kept to a minimum. Cleanest beach and clearest water we experienced during our time on Phuket Island. Could walk out in the water quite a ways, seemed super calm and was great. We did get confused with the tiny “On theRocks Bar” to the left as you look out to water , we thought it was the restaurant of the same name... It was one bay up not within walking distance.
Wonderful place with super friendly staff. The location is perfect with access to a private beach with incredibly warm sea and beautiful sunsets from the restaurant patio. The villas are well appointed with everything you'll need for a luxurious stay. Gym has everything you'll need too, all in all a fantastic choice. Only issue we had was the noise and unsightly view of the construction next door, but that will have to end at some point.
