"Seen better days"
This is my 3rd time staying at The Viceroy in a year (I come to LA every 5 weeks or so for work). I was surprised by the woman at check in on this visit, bad attitude , no manners, and seemed just overall like she hated being here. The bathroom needs some serious updating, water runs from shower faucet and shower head at the same time , doesn't drain well. The AC is the loudest AC I have ever heard but it does help to drown out the sound of the TV next door which I can hear word for word. Honestly, I would equate this hotel to a Hilton Garden Inn or Marriott Airport hotel... it's just super basic and tries to act like it's not. Only positive is that there's coffee in the lobby in the AM. The rate of the room here is the same as Casa Del Mar, Oceana, and Shutters which are 5 star hotels. I was trying to give Viceroy a shot but will be moving back to the other hotels in the area from now on.
"Nice hotel, but I'm not sold on Santa Monica"
The Viceroy is fine for the price class it’s in. Rooms are well appointed and the bathrooms are gorgeous. I was confused by breakfast. Our package included breakfast. Well, it didn’t, because it was not what you would expect from a normal hotel of this caliber. Breakfast is served in what seems to be an independent restaurant on the property, and you get a fixed credit to spend there. It is a juggle to keep within your credit limit, but the breakfast was excellent. The whole ‘get our own tea in a paper cup’ did not do it for me. But as always, the American surprise at the end...I’m still gobsmacked at the 70 USD tourism tax per day, where did this come from' Santa Monica is a dump smelling of urine as soon as you get off the main road. To be honest, Santa Monica, go see the rest of the world to become conscious of your own mediocrity. This must be the only place on earth has the cheek to charge high a tourism tax and offer those surroundings with a smile, thinking everything’s just dandy. Can anybody explain'
"Good location, comfortable room"
We enjoyed our stay here and would return if ever in Santa Monica again. Located within walking distance of the metro (Expo Line) at Santa Monica Boulevard, the hotel is smart and comfortable. A good breakfast is served in the restaurant or, outside on the terrace. Santa Monica beech is just across the road and the famous pier is only a short walk away. The “plunge pools” and terrace area are a bit of a disappointment as there are high surrounds which almost precludes the sun from ever reaching the terrace. However, with the beech so close, that’s not really an issue. An ice machine on the floor would have been nice. I flatly refuse to pay the $8-10 per half-litre bottle of water (or more) that US hotels charge when it’s available from the supermarket at $1 per litre.
"Loved this hotel!"
We spent four days here with our two little boys and the hotel was just beautiful. Large, clean, modern rooms. Excellent service. Wonderful pool area with great cabanas - spent a few afternoons by the pool with drinks and nibbles. And, as only one street back from the beach, excellent location.
"Good style / Good service"
The hotel is quite expensive but it has a cool ambiance which justifies the high price a bit. Nice outdoor lounge, correct rooms, good service. Especially positive was our check-in, where we were welcomed by Ken, the bell boy. Very sympathetic and highly professional guy!
