"Poorly managed and extremely family & old people unfriendly proprty"
We were utterly disappointed with our stay at Taj Fort Aguada. My wife and I have travelled all over the world and have stayed at the top notch hotels both in India and abroad so we have a fair comparison to make for the quality expected from this brand and class of the hotel. This property is pretty poorly managed and is extremely family unfriendly. For that matter, old people would want to think twice as well before booking their stay here. Below are the reasons for my statements - 1) There are no elevators on the entire property (and no friendly paths for wheel chairs for that matter). We were travelling with our 1 year old son and it was a big hassle navigating his stroller. 2) They have smoking zones but they are not enforced (if needed with gentle reminders to the guests) which in contrast we have seen at other family friendly resorts in Goa. 3) We specifically payed a premium for a sea view room with sitout so that our son could play outside. However the sit out areas are very small and have no privacy whatsoever. We had other guests smoking and drinking alcohol in the adjacent areas because of which we could not use our sitout area at all. Our son actually had a coughing fit due to the cigarette smoke. The hotel needs to segregate smoking and non-smoking rooms which is something very basic to expect. 4) The hotel does not have a private beach and the access to public beach is again not friendly for strollers and wheelchairs. 5) The villas they have are located near the top of the hill which makes them even farther from the beach which is what most people go to Goa for. 6) The pool is very small and mostly crowded. Note that the main picture showcased on the hotel website is elongated horizontally making the pool look much bigger than what it actually is. Apart from the above, there were other numerous things which do not do justice to the Taj brand 1) The food at their main restaurant, Kovalam, is very average. Also, the buffet breakfast here is not managed well at all – one has to wait for a long time before they can find a table for you since the size of the restaurant is fairly small considering the size of the property. We found the restaurant at the sister property (Taj Holiday Village), called Beach House, to be much better. 2) When we were there, Goa had a taxi strike, which the hotel informed us about only the night before. Because of this, we were stuck in the overcrowded hotel for the entire day. You would expect the hotel to arrange for some alternates such as a shuttle to take the guests to some popular tourist spots in such circumstances which was not done. The hotel staff simply shrugged their shoulders at the prospect of finding a mode of transport for us on the strike day. 3) The wifi is very slow and spotty. 4) Our bathroom was flooded on the first day due to the leaking shower - they partially fixed it when we complained but shouldnt this be a part of standard quality check before you check-in at a 5 start resort' Also, the rooms with sit out areas do not deserve a premimum - you will be treated to second hand smoke, loud chatter of guests around you, peeking eyes of the people walking on the buzy path right outside (since sit out rooms are all on the ground floor). The staff at the front desk definitely deserves more training. When we complained about some of the few issues to folks there, all they said was sorry without a way to resolve them. One person, front desk manager - Abdul, did not even bother to apologize and kept arguing. Overall, I would not recommend this resort for people who are old and/or travelling with kids. If you are in Goa for partying as a couple or with friends – i.e., if you don’t mind second hand cigarette smoke and empty beer bottles strewn around in the adjacent sit out areas – you will be fine.
"Terrible Check in Experience"
We are a family of 6 (Mom, Dad, 3 kids and elderly grandmother). We flew in from Hyderabad for a 3 night stay at Fort Aguada. It was a 2 hr drive from the airport. We were met in the lobby by Minkey who introduced herself at the Desk Manager. We were seated and given complimentary drinks. She asked for our names and passports and went to check us into the hotel. I had arrived with my children, but my husband and mother-in-law were en route in the other car. Minkey returned and I was told that in fact, I did NOT have any reservations at the hotel, I was summarily handed back my passports. At this point I was shocked - not quite sure what to do. Minkey did not offer to help at all and told me that our reservation had been cancelled for all 3 rooms. I had to ask her to use the hotel phone to contact my travel agency. She went on to explain that I had not paid the hotel. Minkey said she could see the reservation history that the reservation was made but then not paid for. Of course, the hotel HAD been paid back in Oct. I tried explaining this must be a mix-up or mistake. She didn't seem to care. Her demeanor was dismissive and bordering on rude. Thankfully, I had the cell number of the travel agent and thankfully he picked up immediately (otherwise I really don't know what would have happened). He was able to pull up the record number and straighten things out over the phone with her. However, there was a good 20 minutes of me wondering what I was going to do with our family, stranded at this resort (We live in California) with apparently no reservation, high season - no rooms available and the airport 2 hours away. I felt like an unwelcome and uninvited guest. Even though this episode was escalated to the top management - we were never personally contacted by GM Ravi Nischal or offered anything to compensate for this lack of professionalism and error on the hotel's part. We have stayed at fine resorts all over the world and India. I have never experienced this type of treatment at 5-star resort. In the end, we given a simply apology. On another note: Rocky and Unmesh at breakfast were fantastic! They were totally helpful each morning making sure our meals were just perfect and tea/coffee piping hot. Also, housekeeping was awesome - making sure the rooms were well stocked with water, new towels and clean. I ordered room service one evening and I can't remember his name but he made sure my order was placed and came incredibly quickly, I believe he ran all the way to our room so I could get it that quickly. Thank you to these wonderful people who helped us out.
"Best of Both Goas"
When you stay in Goa, you have a choice between happening North Goa - lots doing on the beach, cheap eats in the beach shacks, all night parties, etc. and the laid back restful resorts of South Goa. Or you can stay at the Taj Fort Aguada and get the best of both. Located ON the beach, this property is a resort in its own right. Spa, pool, three restaurants (Italian, Seafood, Multi-cuisine), squash, tennis, kids activities, pool, hotel rooms and villas. They have a free airport shuttle (leaves at 10 past every hour), two bars, lush grounds, good security, and excellent service. Don’t expect that the best of both of Goa’s worlds comes cheap, and you won’t be disappointed. I would recommend for anyone on vacation in India. Including those on business. Good for families with or without kids. Excellent for romance. Don’t miss the sunsets or the view of the Calangute fireworks.
"Great but not Taj class"
1. Starting from airport pickup, the pickup was good. Well behaved personnel, very good assistance, good coach and you get wet tissues and water bottle the moment you enter the coach. You reach the hotel in around 1-1.5 hours as the distance from airport is around 45 km. 2. Reception is very good supported by smooth check-in, very warm treatment by staff, welcome drink etc. 3. We stayed in villa and the same were very good in all terms. Only negative is that the mobile phone networks are very poor in the campus which hotel can work out with escalations to local telecom operators. Resolvable. Negative was that WiFi didn't work as it should have with standard procedures. 4. Local movement inside the campus is by normal cars while I expected the comfortable, electric, silent, pollution free carts. On enquiry from staff I learnt that they had bought few which didn't work because of lot of uphill/ steep slopes in the campus and had to be scrapped. They should try again with more powerful electric carts for better comfort and experience. They can also keep geared cycles / electric scooters for inside movements. 5. While in Goa we like to hire two four wheelers for self rides. Hotel can try to give such access from inside instead of making guests walk outside. 6. Property is slightly unfriendly for people with mobility issues. From front lobby to one level down to the restaurant one has to mandatorily take stairs. I had temporary issue with my knee and one of my colleague has slip disk and we both struggled to move across stairs without any escalators/elevators. In other parts also, only stairs are the and accompanying slopes are not seen. 7. Swimming pool is beautiful but I think it's only 3.6 ft. Though I didn't get in. 8. I missed good green lawns for morning walk even though the is a beautiful hill top site to compensate. Somehow I expected the property size to be bigger then what I saw. The location is beautiful and a small old structure and water sports site are just attached to the property. 9. Food was very good as expected but sometimes the service may be little slow probably due to rush. 10. Checkout was smooth and quick. Above comments are because we expect best of the best from Taj. Few comparisons are also because of my very recent stay and experience in Grand Hyatt Goa. And I understand that there are higher variants of Taj in Goa above this one. So overall it was great, Wah Taj!!
We have just returned from a 9 day stay at this hotel. We upgraded to one of the garden cottage rooms and wow it was fantastic.set slightly away but within easy walk from the main building, and transport available for those who don’t want to walk, The cottage had a huge very comfortable bed, fantastic bathroom and small seated area in window. The staff at the hotel really can’t do enough for you from the room attendants to waiters and pool attendants. The hotel is set at the end of the beach, easily accessible from the hotel via a few steps, this then opens up to a large beach with lots of local beach bars to eat in. Book now if your thinking about it, you won’t be disappointed
