"2 weeks in a cottage"
this was the final part of an amazing 4 week trip into Nepal, India & Goa. 2 weeks in pure luxury was needed. Find a quiet bar - make friends and arrange a private sunset dinner - fresh lobster caught that afternoon and served hours later! In the hotel - after breakfast grab a double chair on the patio and watch the bay in front of you. Over 2 weeks we saw dolphins playing on 3 different mornings!!!
Once again the family decided to hit the beaches of Goa and once again it was none other than the Vivanta Holiday Village where everyone wanted to stay. The whole look and feel of the property is one that transports you back to the Portuguese times with the typical cottages that show is famous for. The excellent location Coupled with good service and great food makes this the ideal choice for anyone to stay if one has to visit Goa.
"no words for the taj"
located just next to the great fort aguada, provides easy transport facility to visit the only crowded place you will ever see in goa, the baga beach. the nearest taj property to anjuna night market, baga and calungate beach
We stayed for 4 days in Fort Aguada, Goa. The stay was nice but the timing was not. It is still the monsoon time.Breakfast was highlight of the day.It caters to the different people with different taste. The rooms were clean and friendly staff. Little disappointed with sea food, good but limited choice.
"Legendary Taj Hospitality"
I usually prefer South Goa as it is cleaner, quieter and the crowd is much better. But I opted for Vivanta by Taj - Fort Aguada only for the property. This 1612 Portuguese built fort had a freshwater spring. The sailors used to stop by to ration water for their journeys here. That’s why it is named Fort Aguada, meaning the ‘Water Fort’. We had visited this property in the monsoon of July 2016 (the TripAdvisor option is not allowing me to mention it). But the best time to visit is Dec-Jan. It's a very, very beautiful property. Definitely the best in terms of the view of the sea in the entire Northern part of Goa. This property delighted me a lot because during monsoon the hill inside the hotel (yes you read it right) feels like a quaint hill station. Nothing can beat this feeling and you won't get this in any other property in Goa. The panoramic view that you get from the top of the hill will make you go speechless. I wish Taj puts up a seamless glass wall throughout the edge of the cliff so that the guests can have an unobstructed view of the sea and the horizon. I bet no other property in Goa can give you as romantic a sunset moment than this cliff at Vivanta by Taj - Fort Aguada. If you want to further enjoy this point, do not take the free cab service which Taj provides to this point, rather walk and relish the quaintness of the place. The staff at the hotel is very warm and friendly. In 5N/6D that we spent at the hotel, we came across some wonderful people who were the kind of people which make the legendary Taj hospitality stand out from the best of the best. We felt as if we weren't talking to employees of Taj but friends and relatives. Here are the names of those people. Prashant Katiyar - He simply vowed us with all the care and attention and actually felt as we've found a long-lost friend who is so caring and willing to go the extra mile to provide us 'delight'. The moment we would enter Latitude, Prashant would simply appear out of nowhere and brief us on the entire buffet in detail. This sweet guy would actually keep waiting for us for the meals at Latitude, but at the same time, he would also encourage us to try Il Camino, Morisco and all the 3 restaurants at the Holiday Village (Caravela, Beach House and Banyan Tree). It felt nice when one chef praises the other chefs of all the other restaurants. Vincent - What a charming old man. Always smiling and wanting all around him to smile. He took care of us like a father would. We loved to chat with him and were impressed by his experience of around 30 years with the Taj. Vincent is embedded in our memory forever. You have to meet him as he is the encyclopaedia of Taj hospitality. Jesyl (Reception) - Sweet, charming, friendly and always eager to help. It makes a lot difference when someone offers to help you with a 'genuine smile'. I'm happy to have being welcomed by her. Wish she was there when we checked out. I had planned this vacation at Taj Fort Aguada to compensate for not being able to celebrate 2 of our wedding anniversaries. Jesyl and Mandira helped us celebrate it by surprising us decorating our room with rose petals and serving us a delicious cake. Rukesh (Il Camino) - Stomach is the way to a man's heart. If there's someone who understands this phrase so well, it is Rukesh. He is such a fantastic chef. Our mouth waters when we remember all that he served us. He understood our brief so well and produced pizzas, salads and main courses just the way it was meant to be. Plus, we really appreciate the way he would appear and check with us whether we were enjoying the meal or would we like to have it recreated. Mandira Goswami - Mandira and her team were always eager to help and tried to extend every kind of help whenever required. To be able to guess what's troubling the guest and how to handle the situation seemed to be a cakewalk for Mandira. Valenkho Luis - A suave, young duty manager who knew the property like the back of his palms. We are grateful to him for showing us one of the most beautiful hotel room that we've ever seen at any property in Goa. We would like to thank him for offering his number in case we ever wanted to book our stay at Vivanta by Taj Fort Aguada again. Also, we would like to thank him and Taj for giving us a beautiful parting gift - an artwork of my favourite Mario Miranda. This souvenir will help us remember some of the most memorable moments of our lives. The other people who made our stay pleasant, hassle-free and memorable, thanks to their warm and friendly demeanour and alays eager to help...just the way one would expect of Taj hospitality. Gopal (Latitude) Vishnu (Latitude) Hemraj (Latitude) - The way he described the Jungle Lodges of Taj, it seems we would soon be planning a trip to one of the four Taj properties in Madhya Pradesh soon. Ghanshyam (Latitude) Dominic (Latitude) Vaibhav (Latitude) Cassian (Latitude) Natasha (Latitude) Zennin (Chef Rego's Beach House restaurant at Vivanta By Taj - Holiday Village) Rohit Nair (Reception) The entire team at Il Camino (Team of Vincent) The entire team at Banyan Tree - Sorry for not remembering the names of a team of 4 at Banyan Tree (1 lady and 3 guys) as we had a quick lunch. If mentioning the day and time would help, we had lunch there on Thursday, 14th July 2016. Amazing food, fantastic service by eager-to-serve staff. Most of the staff at Caravela - Awesome food. Here I asked for genuine Goan breads and we were served 'Poee'. We wish we could remember the names of the staff here that afternoon. Very, very memorable meal we had here. The following security guys: Mohan (Foyer) Mohan Ram (Foyer) Baban (Bay View) Uttam (Bay View) - I hope we got his name correct (a fair-skinned guy from Jharkhand if I'm not wrong) A Room Service Boy - A very young boy from Karnataka, I forget his name...looks like a school kid. Maya (ASK desk) I fail to recollect the names of many more. The fact that I'm very bad at remembering names, yet I could recall these many is proof that the stay at Fort Aguada was really very memorable and me and my wife will keep reminiscing for years to come. I'm also sorry for not being able to thank the behind the scene guys in the kitchen, housekeeping, room service, security, maintenance, etc. I would like to make the following suggestions to Taj to improve the stay and experience of the guests: a. Create an app so that the guest can request drop-down service when they are away. Guests can even get in touch with the security when for example, a guest steps out of the hotel on to the beach and faces some difficulty at the beach or not finding the security personnel at the gate when he returns. Also when the key of the guest is not working and the guest has to walk all the way up to the reception to recharge the key (especially since there are no telephones kept in the longggg passage way). The GPS-enabled app can help see the number the people at the restaurants, etc so that he/she can plan his/her moments. An app would help the guest and the hotel in many other ways. b. Please improve your website and make it more informative with words as well as photographs. For example, one could never make out the difference between the different categories of rooms. Even a detailed walk-through of the entire property would help. c. Please have a door-bell/buzzer button at the gate which leads to the fort. As many a times, the security personnel would not be standing at the gate when the guest would want to renter the hotel after a walk around the fort and when it would rain heavily outside or when the guest gets intimidated or feels uncomfortable on seeing an unruly crowd outside. d. We loved this thing about Taj as it let the guest explore other restaurants at the adjoining property of Taj. Please don't stop this ever. Its a fantastic USP. e. We could see some tiny flies hovering over the fruits and dessert counters. We can understand that during Monsoon for a sea-facing hotel it's difficult to control this, but it is not impossible. Please take care of this as this reminds us of unkempt properties like Ramada. f. Please offer a tour of both the properties (even show the rooms) so that the next time, the guest can experience a better choice and enjoy better. g. Please inform guests and inner circle members whenever Taj Group of Hotels offers special rates and packages (direct or in a tie-up with partners like Amex/Diners, etc)
