"A Great Place to Stay"
After a horrible experience at another Beijing Hotel, we moved over the the Wanda Realm. Smart smart move on our part. This hotel was great. The room was super comfortable and quiet. The wall between the sleeping area and the bathroom is a large window, interesting concept, and is easily covered by a shade operated by a switch next to the tub. The room was super clean, the service friendly. The internet worked flawlessly. Across the street is a shopping mall and a Carrefour Supermarket. Would I stay here again' You bet!
This hotel exceeded my expectation. Stayed a couple days while on a vacation to China. The hotel was beautiful, the staff was nice. The rooms were extremely nice with see through wall between bathroom and bedroom. The lounge was very contemporary. The buffet had a large variety of foods for the included breakfast. As an American I felt very welcomed.
"still no air conditioning in this 5-star hotel"
this is the 3rd time I stayed in this hotel. No improvement. I only stayed here because it is a convenient place for the purpose of my trip. But I swear I will never stay here again! The one star is given for the smooth check-in and the fact I was given a room upon early arrival. The only thing I was trying to make sure before going to the room is that it is a non-smoking. I was told that every room is non-smoking. But the room smelled cigarette when I walked in. So I went back asking for a different room. I got a much smaller room but at least it smells okay. Based on my last experience, I checked the air conditioner first. It seems to blow cold air and the room temperature is 24. Not bad. -My contentment didn't last long. I woke up in the middle of the night with temperature went up to 26 already. then 27. I complained to the front desk. They told me that they didn't shut down the central AC and the air conditioning should be working. whatever, I decided to go to the gym to cool down. It was warm there as well. I asked how to adjust the temperature in the gym since I was the only guest there. The women in charge of the desk told me that she would just turn off the heating! -why would anyone need heating on in the gym when the outside temperature was around 20! On the 2nd day, my room got hot again in the morning. This is the weird thing. It was 22 before I went to bed. It was 25 when i woke up. Now it is 26 at 2 pm. Unless they turned on the central heating, how is it possible with temperature was below 20 outside and drizzling! I called the front desk again. This time the girl was quite rude. She told me in a condescending voice that it is not summer yet and of course the central A/C is not on. When I asked when it is considered summer, she said it is only summer when it is really really hot. -I almost forgot this is a 5-star hotel when I hung up the phone. So I will never stay here again. As a matter of fact, I will never stay in any Wanda property. I will not recommend this particular hotel to anyone!
"The Freindlest People"
The Room was beautiful; First; American style bathroom facilities, (in the hotel), If you haven't experienced, Asian bathrooms, Google it on youtube, and always remember the paper is ALL at the entrance, I found carrying a small package of tissues in you pocket, is a good idea. The other different feature was and electric curtain and a wall size window in the tub, I guess its so you can watch TV while you soak. Great view out the window of Beijing, Restaurant has American food, But "My self rule" bottled water, for tea or just plain drinking, and brushing teeth. Some of the people I was with on this trip believed when they were told the tea water had been boiled for ten minutes, or ate salad that had been washed in water, they had stomach troubles., I felt great for the whole trip, and even gained 5 lbs, so you decide. Now for the city, The Summer Palace is a great place for pictures, the cherry blossoms were in bloom during our visit. We were on a tour bus, and the driver is referred to as the Master, once you see Beijing traffic you will know why. From Beijing we went to the Great Wall, Oh one note we were very lucky no smog, as we were leaving to go to Shanghai ( another story may be) the smog set in and it was like a thick fog, But as I said we lucked out and it was clear for our entire trip. The Wall was amazing we walked to the end of the piece we visited , up and down about 4+ hours some of the staircases were very steep, but there were hand rails which you will hold, I did. The wall is in sections, I guess it would cot too much to keep the entire wall in good condition, As my title says the Chinese People, are some of the friendless I have met in any of my travel, They will come up to you and hold out a camera, as if asking you to take their picture, and then you find out they want you in the picture with them, so they can show their American friends to their village. Just to be polite in a foreign, country, learn a few words, the people you meet will appreciate it,(nín hǎo) “Hello” , go to youtube, the language in Beijing & Shanghai is Mandarin, just learning a few, will give you a incite into how difficult it would be to really learn it. I didnt think I would enjoy the trip but I loved it.
