"Lovely hotel in great location"
I stayed for 7 nights at this hotel for a business trip, and enjoyed my stay. The hotel is in a good location - not touristy yet, but overlooking the beach, and in a safe neighborhood. The room was modern in style, comfy and cozy, with a very comfy bed. My room overlooked the side street rather than the avenue facing the ocean, which probably meant that it was quieter (tended to be a lot of traffic on that avenue). Plus, I could still see the sea from my window - a side view. I am a light sleeper and had no problem sleeping due to noise levels. In fact, the room seemed to have a lot better noise reduction than in the majority of the U.S. hotels in which I've stayed. The breakfast is incredible - a huge variety of options, from various kinds of fresh fruit to at least 10 kinds of breads and pastries, to an omelette/egg station with a cook, to sandwich meats and cheeses, to yogurt - etc. I only ate one non-breakfast meal in the restaurant. The meal was fine - but I wouldn't eat dinner there due to the cost. A few blocks away is the Hollandaise restaurant, which is excellent. The best soups ever! The staff was kind but their grasp of English seemed a bit illusory to me, based on things that I was told that were not true. I didn't have any trouble with checking in or out, but I did so at odd times. When there were crowds they got backed up quite a bit. Overall - I would definitely recommend this hotel. I got a great deal through Expedia that included the breakfast in the price, so I was very pleased.
I went to a Bossa Nova concert, last weekend, at Windor Marapendi restaurant, and I was amazed how terrible food was in this 5 star restaurant. R$57,00 for this set of, that they call, "Cold cuts board" (see the picture). We asked of some breads that took more than a hour for them to bring. Also the menu is very weak, with deserts like "Ice Cream" and "Fruits". I wasn't hosted on the hotel. But I would recommend eating someplace else.
"The best breakfast EVER!"
The hotel is really beautiful but the staff should be better trained. The check in and check out are a nightmare, so you must to go with time to spend. I was with 4 kids and it took 4 hours for them to get the room ready and I was not looking for an early check in. BUT the breakfast is THE BEST EVER! and I have being in a lots of hotels around the world, so I know what THE BEST means hahaha The Jacuzzi is great and the bed is nice :) I would come back.
"Kind staffs, great breakfast"
I stayed Windsor Marapendi during two nights for busines trip. Actually this time was the second visit to this hotel, and I would like to comment main reasons which made me to stay here again. (Please be aware that this review is based on my personal experience) First of all, the staff service is great. Everyone in Windsor Marapendi is really well trained, very kind and always eager to help hotel guests. Only one thing is that some concierge staffs don't speak English.. it would be more than great if they can receive some kind of language training, etc. Second, the breakfast. A lot of variaties with great quality. Lastly, the location. If you are a traveler, obviously your #1 choice might be Copacabana beach. But in my case my preference was different due that the objective of my trip was business. In addition, near hotel there is a shopping mall, beach is just one-minute distance by walk.
"Plush lobby; nice rooms on beachfront hotel"
Difficult for a first timer to choose where to stay, the temptation being either Copacabana or Ipanema beaches, but we chose here, though it was a 40 minute cab ride to those beaches. Nevertheless much to do and see in this location Barra di Tijuca, including a 10 minute trip to the huge Barra shopping mall, and more interestingly, Isla da Gigoia,an islet in a lagoon, offering solitude and old fashioned streets and restaurants which lies behind mainland stores - a 5 minute boat ride away - a must for tourists. The Windsor is one of a number in this chain and with a rooftop pool and bar ( 17th floor), it was very good,as were staff, particularly the helpful guys manning the lobby and entrance, most of whom had good English. Rooms a good size though don't expect a sea view unless you pre-book one.
