"Old school Hotel, the staff were impeccable"
My wife and I stayed at the Windsor for four nights in May and we loved the hotel and staff. The buffet breakfast had everything you would need and more. After a day out on the beach and town, my wife wanted a cup of tea in the restaurant, and the staff could not have been more obliging. The staff were trained old school and by old school I mean correctly, from the front desk, to the bell boys to the waiters. The rooms were older but well kept and clean. They were a little smaller than some of the new hotels, but very comfortable. I would suggest to all hotels that they have more than one suitcase stand. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Obrigado à administração e ao pessoal.
"Good location, bad staff, bad food, ok roof top pool"
Entrance is straight from the side walk. Not nice. Tiny, tiny rooms, with jail bars on the windows. The view was terrible, if you can call it view. Old rooms, Old hotel that needs maintenance. Lots of maintenance actually... Receptionists spoke English, nobody else did. OK internet speed. The breakfast buffet was ok, but the restaurant was too crowded/busy. The a la carte menu was not impressive and the food that was served even less. If I ever go back to Brazil I will not stay on this hotel.
"Average facilities. Wonderful staff. Great stay."
It's really quite an awesome place to stay. The facilities are not modern but the place is very clean. That's the key thing I look out for in hotels. Service is the one thing I never count on cos often I get disappointed. But the staff I met from the doorman, bell boy, reception and to Housekeeping were all very friendly and readily dished out advice unprompted. Housekeeping left a handwritten thank you note when I left a tip behind. Overall, the hotel left quite an impression on me.
"Great time "
What a great hotel close to the beach really great staff so helpful Carlos on the front desk was fantastic the hotel was clean and tidy and and a good breakfast. We stayed on my birthday and st breakfast the hotel have me a card and chocolates how nice is that they took the time to check it was my birthday. If we were to return to Rio we not hesitate to stay at the Windsor Plaza 😎
"Decent mid-range hotel"
Two Windsors reside on Avenida Princesa Isabel: an expensive hotel just opposite Copacabana and this more moderately priced one a few blocks away and on the opposite side of the Avenida. Even half the time, long-time Cariocas manage to wind up at the wrong Windsor. While the fancier Windsor is surrounded by expensive condos, this second location is a short block from streets chock full of local pharmacies, small grocery stores (Pao de Acucar), and the ever dependable Itau bank for cash withdrawals. Taxis are nearby, plentiful, cheap, and drivers do not expect a tip. Breakfasts in Rio hotels usually come with generous helpings of fresh mango, papaya, melons, in addition to eggs, sausage, yoghurts, breads and cold cuts. I adore my petit déjeuner in Paris and full English across the channel, but Rio hotel breakfasts are wonderful treats. The larger room with a small table had plenty of space for two people to stay comfortably for a week. And a short-lived problem with the air conditioning was fixed one night even at 9 pm. Although the hotel does not advertise its decor, the walls are adorned with (unlabeled) but authentic original indigenous woodwork.
