Good position overlooking racecourse and could just see it from our room. Good size room with large TV and massive comfy bed. Bathroom also good size. Good parking and easy bus route into town centre. Only slight issue was that there was never anyone on reception desk and always had to wait. A Little odd we thought.
We stayed for one night. We picked the hotel as it was fairly close to the city centre. Parking was good. The staff on reception and at the bar were good too. The hotel itself is looking tired and tatty. It does need refurbishing. Our room was in desperate need of attention: the door was sticking; the integrated wardrobe had two very old, white painted wooden doors; the ironing board was defective- it dropped to the ground each time we put it up, narrowly avoiding broken toes ( we ironed on the bed); the heating system was very dated; but the bathroom was newly decorated and for those who like this sort of thing, the TV was enormous. The room was nice and clean, so the housekeeping team are effective. It’s not just the rooms though, the stairs and corridors were tatty. The lift was very old fashioned, the fire doors and carpets were all just very old. I guess, if this hotel was cutting edge, then the £12 price tag for a glass of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc would have been easier to swallow. I also found that basic details were missing in the room too. The room directory missed off basics ( like check out times), or maybe they were too well hidden in the literature to find. I ended up phoning reception to find out. The 12 o’clock check out time was another positive. We didn’t opt for breakfast so couldn’t comment on that. Would we return' No. There’s many more to pick from.
"Standard. Not much else to say. "
Needs updating and money spending on the decor. Our room at £100 per night without breakfast which would have been £15 each seemed dear. We stayed sat, Sun and mon nights for £300 just for the room. Expensive I think.
"Great for price"
We booked this basex6on facilities price and location and were not disappointed as some others reviewing at the same time seemed to be. Yes it is a little dates if you want contemporary then probably not for you, but unlike Scandinavia where there is nowhere to put clothes our room was large enough to also accommodate a sofa as well as a king size bed and large screen tv. Bathroom also large. A good little gym, who knew you could be hiking in Yosemite or running in New Zealand whilst in York! The pool whilst small was lovely not too cold and along with a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna had everything we needed. Breakfast had a lot of choice and kept us going all day. We didn't eat in the hotel as we prefer to eat out ( lots of choice for those with a taste card) As other suggested the no 4 bus will take you right into town and parking in the evening after 6pm is just £2. A lovely couple of days.
"Needs some TLC"
Not right in the middle of town... but close enough to be accessible. Large hotel, good facilities, needs some TLC though... rooms tired, public spaces a bit better. Food in restaurant was average, maybe a bit less than average. Service, apart from reception, also left a bit to be desired. Busy with large tour groups, guess that’s where the money is, but it felt a bit over-run by tour groups making it feel busy and noisy pretty much all of the time. Was not bad, Was not good. If it’s a stopover for a night, adequate. Would not have wanted any more than my two nights there though.
