"Classic, clean, great service, tastefully done."
5th floor away from trams in an upgraded room (one up from deluxe) Superb. Room was really large, tastefully furnished with good quality traditional furniture. Bed comfy and not two doubles joined together. No plastic or MDF in sight ! : ) Service was excellent in hotel - it is truly classic in its decor throughout. Art Deco definately if you like that style. Reception couldn't have been more helpful, neither could the bar and restaurant. Dining is in a restaurant that is fabulous - 30ft ceilings and white table cloths. You can dress up for dinner in Prague if you wish ! Location: 7/8 min walk to clock and main square. 10-12 from Charles bridge. Decent area, very central. Hotels own professional and helpful drivers who are same price as main stream taxis - lovely cars, again good quality all round. I wish we had taken advantage of this from the airport into Prague when we arrived. If it's a choice of a mainstream hotel or Art Deco Imperial this wins my vote every time.
"Comfortable Hotel in Great Location"
Great Location within minutes walk of everything, bedroom was really well fitted out, the food was great in the restaurant and the staff where really helpful. We traveled in a party and it would have been nice if the bar had been open earlier and later.
"Style over substance!"
We booked into this hotel for a long weekend in Prague. My wife loves Art Deco and the reviews for this hotel on trip advisor were all excellent, so we were looking forward to a stylish, comfortable 5-star experience from this hotel. We didn’t get it or anything like it, but let’s try to be balanced here. Good Point: • Lovely Art Deco hotel: Built and decorated in that period of Art Deco which was hugely influenced by the Tutankhamun discoveries in Egypt in the early 1920’s and this shows in the Egyptian references and extensive use of golds in this hotel. The room we were in (116) was beautifully and carefully decorated in Art Deco and it was all well maintained and fresh. The bathroom was particularly beautifully done with floor and wall tiles of Onyx and sympathetic sanitary ware and fittings. • Breakfast: This is in the main dining room on the ground floor, which itself is a beautiful Art Deco room with high ceilings. The breakfast choice was huge, something for everyone and all very well done. Service was excellent and prompt. Breakfast was serviced from 07:00 to 11:00. • The bar: There is a small bar / cocktail lounge just past reception. The barman was excellent. He absolutely knew his job and knew all about discreet customer service. He was magically there just as you were thinking about ordering another drink and nothing was too much trouble. We had a drink here immediately after our initial check-in just after midnight and felt it boded well….. • Location: The hotel is pretty central for Prague. Some 200m from Namesti Republiky, which in turn is some 400m from the old town square. Bad points: Sorry, but some really basic stuff here. • Uncomfortable bed: The bed was hard. I know there is an element of personal taste, but does anyone really like a hard bed' It would be a very easy fix to simply put a thick topper on the bed, but no. We found it very uncomfortable – even the Premier Inn manage decent beds these days! • Shower was awful: Room 116 has a combined bath / shower – no problem with that. But where the shower head was fixed to the wall and the size of the glass shower screen meant that when you used it, a LOT of water would always go all over the polished Onyx floor (yes, I mean a LOT!), turning it into a skating rink until you mopped it all up with a towel. This is a major and silly design flaw, someone thought more about how cool things looked than how they actually worked! • Tram noise: Not a big one this, but I think people should be aware that the hotel is situated on a road with a tram line and about half the room face to road. They are double glazed, but big heavy trams on metal rails make a low rumbling noise that you half hear and half feel. The trams do not run all night and it wasn’t a major annoyance to us, but it wasn’t great either • Room temperature: There was only one set of temperature controls that we could find and no matter what we did with it, we could not get the room temperature down to a comfortable level, it was waaaayyyyy too hot. My wife likes a warmer temperature than me, but even she was sleeping with no cover on for most of the night and was still too hot! • Awful customer service in the evening dining room: We heard that the dining room in the evening had excellent food and a great chef, but we had to book to hope of getting a table. We asked at reception for a table on either of our two nights at 19:30. Reception did not have access to dining room reservations so wrote out time on a piece of paper (which we saw clearly as 19:30) and said they would confirm later that day (see where this is going'). No word when we got back, so we checked at reception, they found the piece of paper and said yes, all booked for 19:30 that night. We turned up at 19:30 on the dot, but instead of a table, the person asked us to wait. Five minutes later a woman escorted us to a tiny table obviously tacked on the end of a row backing onto the main entrance from the street, so that every time the door opened you would get an icy blast. We said the table was no good and could we have a decent table. Instead of doing that she proceeded to tell us that we had booked the table for 19:00 and we were 30 minutes late so they had to give our table away. Long story, we told her it was clearly booked by us with reception for 19:30, but she was having none of it and preferred to argue. We told her to forget it and then went to complain the reception, who themselves were useless, until the same woman walked through from the dining room and again told reception we booked it for 19:00. We were furious by this point and went to find another restaurant. No apology, nothing – good old ‘the customer is always wrong’ attitude. There is a serious failing between reception and the dining room, almost like they are not part of the same hotel. Let me be clear, it is not that you made a mistake (it happens), it is how a mistake is handled that separates good hotels from also rans. Guys, all you had to do was apologise for messing the times up, promise to sort us out a good table in a few minutes and offer a complimentary glass of wine while we waited! Honestly, next time, we would stay at the Ibis Style down the road. We know from experience that they are efficient, have comfortable beds and room temperature controls that work, formulaic yes, but a fraction of the price and you know what you are going to get.
Just felt the need to say lovely Hotel, good food and EXCELLENT staff. The staff in particular were very welcoming, helpful and always greeted you with a smile. Hotel situated within walking distance of the main areas of interest. Breakfasts couldn't be faulted. I would book there again.
