"The Place to Stay in Quebec"
My family and I stayed for 3 night last summer at this hotel. Quebec is beautiful and maybe one of the best destinations in Canada. This city is divided in old and new. The old part is surrounded by a wall and it takes you back in time to where this place was founded. The hotel is located in the old part of the city and it is a landmark over there. It is by far, the most intriguing hotel I have ever been. It is a huge castle with all the commodities a Fairmont Hotel has to offer. VERY IMPORTANT.- This hotel offers old and renovated rooms, so MAKE SURE they give you a renovated one, because it makes all the difference in the world. My family and I stayed in a "studio" where we all fitted and it was a renovated one. The room was ver big and all the furniture was new. On the other hand, my friend and his family stayed in an old one and everything is old. Do not expect big rooms, unless you get a suite or a "studio" like I said, but it is part of the experience of staying in a castle. I do not know how old this place is, but the lobby is beautiful, its restaurants and lounges are very nice and breakfast there is very good. It is kind of expensive, but to stay 3 or 4 days its worth it. Also, it is right in the heart of the old city, just a walk away from everything!!
"Perfect walking city! "
We met the challenge of this city and walked 12,000 plus steps per day! The long weekend trip was greeted with perfect weather. We bought art, which was a superb value. One dining experiences were all excellent. The comfort dip in the hotel lobby was quite a hit. One of the most beautiful cities eve!
Stayed here several nights in mid February with my wife and our 7 year old daughter. The hotel was my wife's preference but I enjoyed it. I don't particularly care for luxury hotels but as they go, Le Chateau Frontenac is not over the top. For me the best part is its location in the old city and its historic architecture. Wandering around you'd think you're in Paris. The views across the icy St. Lawrence from the hotel tower are wonderful and the hotel is a great base for exploring the old city. The old city is compact and the hotel is never a long walk away. Our room was a very spacious, clean and comfortable double queen with a beautiful bathroom. Every staff member was lovely. Our daughter loved the indoor swimming pool. We chose not to eat at the hotel because the restaurants are quite pricey and we preferred to try local cafes. There is a charge for parking - $36 if I recall correctly. There is also a charge for wifi. There is a Starbucks at the hotel. I insisted that we try the toboggan run next to the hotel thinking it would be fun. Warning! If roller coasters are not your thing I recommend you avoid the toboggan run. I also seemed to bruise my tailbone area banging against the crossbar in the sled. We did two fun day trips: skiing at Mt. St. Anne and skating/tubing at Village Vacances Valcartier. I highly recommend visiting the ice hotel at Valcartier - it is really cool! Overall I thought the hotel was worth the splurge and would stay there again.
"Grand, landmark hotel visit"
We stayed at the Frontenac on our first visit to Quebec City three years ago and it is hard to go anyplace else now. Back again this year for March break, and you can't beat this experience anywhere else. Everything about this property is grand, from the lobby to the pool, and I can only imagine the ballrooms! Excellent service. Highly recommend the pool and steam bath. Can't wait to go back in the summer!
"Brought back to five star excellence."
I had stayed in the Hotel Frontenac about 40 years ago and was very disappointed. Although built as a luxury hotel over 100 years ago, by the 1970s it had sadly deteriorated in an old, smelly dump. Fortunately in the 21st century, it was bought and renovated by the luxury Fairmont chain and is now great again. Save up and get the best room you can afford. This is the way to visit old Quebec City. Highly recommend.
