"Good but not quite all there"
Checked in for a week in a junior suite. Hotel booked as it was rated 5 Star but that is open to interpretation. One persons idea of 5 star may differ from others. We arrived late evening and into the reception area, which is not particularly big or grand, Couldn't help noticing straight away that some of the wooden tables had dents and dings in. Then there was the reception staff. I would describe the greeting as poor. We were checked in as if it was a function had to be done and staying at a motel. There was no friendly greeting, asked how our journey was or any real welcome at all. We were not offered any refreshment or our welfare enquired about. It was simply - can we have your credit card, here are your keys, it's on the second floor and the lift is over there. At least we didn't have to take our bags up, but 5 star it was not. The suite had a kitchennette with a two ringer electric cooker, a fridge, a dishwasher and adequate glasses and cups. But, no kettle or tea and coffee makings. Not even a few biscuits. The suite was nice enough and spacious. The deck overlooking the pool was huge with a dining table and chairs and also comfortable seats and a settee size seat. Very good. The bedroom was nice with an adjoining ensuite. The shower is over the bath but was powerful and easy to use. We had a jacuzzi bath but it did not work. I did not report it as was not bothered by that. There is not a lot of space to pack your suitcases away. The furniture had suffered the same as the reception area. Chips and dents around the legs of the coffee table along with marks where the wet mop had come into contact with it and not wiped down. The pool area was very nice and well run. You can order drinks and there are dining chairs and tables set by in one corner. We observed that many people did not shower before entering the pool. It is only a short walk onto the beach. The walk to Puerto Banus marina is about 10 to 15 minutes away. Breakfast, buffet style, serves to late morning. Nice selection and eggs are cooked to order but you have to queue to get them The only thing brought to your table is tea or coffee. Indoor and outdoor eating. There is not really anywhere to sit out in the evening other than in the dining areas naer the pool. There is a small bar next to reception and a few tables and chairs to the front. Whilst we were there we did not see any entertainment laid on. you can usually find a taxi waiting at the front of the hotel. On one of the days we returned to our room very late in the afternoon and it had not been made up. Another day there was no soap and had to go to reception to ask for some. Having said all this, it was nice but was just missing all the touches that befits its rating. It is certainly not 5 star.
Unique location on the beach at about 10 minutes walk from Porto Banus. Beach, pool and facilities all very good. We enjoyed a superior suite with all luxuary amanities. But the room could do with a little maintenance. The bathroom is old. Breakfast is extremely good but only starts at 8. So if you have an early golftee time or departure you have to order room service or take out. The most positive thing in this very good hotel is the excellent service by very very friendly personell. We really had a great time
"We keep returning"
My wife and I have been coming to this hotel for short spring and autumn breaks since it first opened in December 2004 during which time it went through a period of decline due to the recession. However recent ongoing renovation and the addition of new facilities has put it back on the 5* map. The staff have always been charming, polite and helpful and continue to be so. The addition of and outside grill room makes dinner under the stars with live musical accompaniment very enjoyable. The position of this beach front hotel has always been a huge asset and the fifteen minute stroll along the board walk to the Port very pleasant. We will be returning and recommend others to try, you won't regret it!
"NOT a 5 star hotel"
A tired hotel that may have been 5 star many moons ago -- Food although good is very limited in choice for half board guests - Not much to do close to the hotel IE bars etc -- The PYR seems a better bet if you go with Jet2 - or stay in Marbella and have the odd night in Banus
Great place again another lovely stay at the hotel Staff good rooms very good room service excellent We will be going again 5th year in a row Cocktails in bar are very good Breakfast is nice on the patio They should bring back eggs on buffet as we had to que behind omelette grabbers to get fried or poached eggs Only complaint so must be good Have a massage in ground floor Thai room absolutely brilliant
