"Beautiful hotel in the heart of Old Town Alexandria"
We recently stayed four nights at this hotel. The pros are it's in the middle of King Street and has lots of choices for restaurants and entertainment. The room was a good size and clean and the hotel is quiet. The prices fluctuate at this hotel so the first days we were there it was reasonable but when we came back later in the week after exploring the countryside of Virginia the rates had risen so much that we had to stay elsewhere. The pro/con is the trolley. The metro stop is 13 blocks away which takes 20 minutes to walk. The trolley doesn't operate until 10 or 11 a.m. and it only comes by every 20-30 min and is packed. We had to walk or take a taxi to the metro as we wanted to get to DC attractions early in the morning. The wi-fi is not free so that's another negative and parking a car is outrageous at $27 a day. The dining room is nice but expensive but there's a La Madeline and Starbucks next door for reasonably priced breakfast. As for the bed it was not firm and the pillows were too mushy. The AC takes forever to cool the room and is very noisy. Also the bathroom has french doors with no lock so if you are not with family this might not be a great setup. Overall I liked staying here versus one of the chain hotels that are next to the Metro but believe they need some improvements.
"Great hotel, and location"
This was our favorite (by far) hotel that we stayed in on a six city trip. From the eclectic lobby, to the very walkable location, to the friendly staff. The room was large and well appointed. We would definitely stay here and try the other Monaco hotels where we can find them.
"I was blown away"
We stumbled across this piece of heaven away from home, by accident. Our initial reservation did not book our room selection properly, and after getting in at 4:00am all of the other rooms were booked. Luckily for us, he rebook us at the Monaco. It was a true blessing. Not only was the service attentive, and available at 4:15am, they were equally inviting and welcoming. The friendliness and warmth was complimented with one of the best, clean, well decorated, cozy hotels I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Since we got in at 4:00am or thereafter, they offered to extend our stay until Monday morning. Not that is service at its best. That stay, just made we want to visit Alexandria, Old town for a nice staycation with my husband and children, before summer ends. Who knows, maybe anytime just for a brief escape. Thanks to the Creator for the small simple beauties of life.
"Nice Hotel in Old Town Alexandria"
This is a lovely boutique hotel right in the heart of Old Town. The room was lovely, comfortable & spacious. The staff at the front desk were very polite & helpful. However, I attended an event in one of the ballrooms and it was HOT (I truly don't believe the air conditioning was turned on at all). Several people left the ballroom to stand near functioning AC vents in a hallway outside the ballroom. We tried to eat breakfast Sunday morning at the restaurant (Jackson 20), but were turned away as they didn't accept walk-ins on the weekend. It would have been nice to have been advised this when we checked in to the hotel. The hostess was very rude, and didn't offer to see if there were any openings for a reservation later in the morning (she turned her back after advising no walk ins on weekends). While I would stay at this hotel again, I will never eat in this restaurant.
Loved the location, loved the ambiance of the rooms, but we were sweltering in the summer heat. Heard from an employee that management made sure rooms had good ac, but stopped there -- so the function we were at was MISERABLE. So, I love them for their location and the rooms. I would NEVER recommend them for an event in one of their rooms where you wish your guests to be comfortable....
