"Reasonable but nothing special"
Stayed for three nights in February 2015. Very nice service, along with clean rooms. Also enjoyed early morning coffee and newspapers in their main lounge area. Excellent beds, good water pressure. Only disappointment was being awakened several times late at night by "happy" residents talking loudly as they returned to their fifth floor rooms- sound really carried well into the rooms.
"Cool, convenient, friendly"
First, there is a shuttle from DCA. King St. Metro not too far. Second, the hotel looks great. Third, the staff was great. Fourth, room comfortable and cute. Fifth, nice pool. I always love Kimptons and this one did not disappoint. Lots of shops and restaurants within walking distance. And Charlie, the pet ambassador :)
"Disappointing for a Kimpton hotel"
Had a one night biz trip to DC and chose Kimpton Monaco for its location and price as I have enjoyed staying at others in the chain, and they claim to offer free airport shuttle. First issue was that even though I confirmed several times(!) re my flight arrival and that I required shuttle transportation, it didn't turn up when promised. Even after I called while standing on the curb at DCA the shuttle didn't turn up as promised. Eventually, I took a cab. That was 1 or 2 star treatment. The good news was that the hotel acknowledged the problem and paid for my cab. That is the 5 star treatment I expect from a Kimpton. Second issue was that I saw some bugs wandering over my bedspread/cover. That's 1 or 2 stars. I don't get too upset unless my life is threatened, so I killed the insects myself and informed the desk. The hotel took $25 off my bill which was a "good" response. However, the receptionist didn't seem particularly concerned. Given the insects, I thought the hotel would want to either get me another room or at least change the bedding. (Or, maybe hotels in this area are all overrun by insects'') As I was only there for one night it wasn't a terrible experience. However, averaging the 1 or 2 star aspects with the 5 star aspects I give this Kimpton Monaco the "Average" rating.
"Up Close and Personal in Old Town Alexandria, VA."
Centrally located in "Olde Towne" Alexandria, this hotel offers exceptional amenities and competitive rates. In addition it welcomes pet dogs and is "dog friendly". The staff were highly informed regarding such details as restaurants, including hotel restaurants, historical sites. local entertainment and waterfront activities. The hotel is physically attractive, featuring Georgian architectural appointments. The rooms were spacious and the beds most comfortable. Truly an enjoyable experience.
"Charmingly decorated hotel, great location"
The lobby is beautiful; exotically decorated, as the hotel's name implies. Our room was small, but beautifully appointed. The wallpaper, carpet, and upholstery look really new and fresh - no wear and tear. The bed was extremely comfortable. When I inquired about the free wine reception, we had missed it, but the desk clerk gave us 2 coupons for free drinks in the bar, Jackson 20. We didn't get to eat there; tried to get brunch reservations, but they were full. We will definitely try next time. A few minor details kept this from being 5 star: the hallway was freakishly hot; in the workout room, the water cooler was empty and the resistance ball was flat. 4.5 would be my actual rating. Don't let the room rates deter you; we got a great deal for the weekend by calling the hotel's reservation number.
