"Long hike to room"
This is a nice hotel, quality service and offering some pleasing amenities (wine hour) and clean rooms with quality linens. Our room however was small, no chair other than the desk and not big enough for two. Further when we checked in we found it at the back of the hotel and the extreme end of the hall.
I travel to DC monthly for business, but was amazed at this place when traveling with wife's business. We arrived frazzled and in near "melt down", but manager provided my wife a complimentary glass of wine (bar not even open), the staff obtained our room early. With a happy wife, I could then arrange a nice nearby tavern for a high end client meeting. And this hotel cost less than my normal chain! The room was beautiful (not like a chain), and the complimentary breakfast was great. This hotel was a wonderful surprise.
The Kimpton hotel is in a perfect location and offers wonderful amenities. Nice courtyard to enjoy the fall weather The quaint size and great staff make the stay for even a business trip relaxing. The neighborhood has MANY restaurants and shops.Impressed with the in room yoga mat to offer support for wellness.
Washington DC was my first destination on the US-trip and after reading the reviews in Tripadvisor and comparing the prices of hotels it was really the best choice. I spent in this nice hotel 2 nights. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The first surprise was a gift: 2 cocktail vouchers! And coctails in bar were seriously good... I have had a breakfast in the same bar at first morning and it was rather expensive but delicious. Hotel has the pool and gym, but not sauna. Pool is more suitable for little children, not for men who wants to swim half an hour or more. About location: it is in the center of City of Alexandria (Virginia). You are conveniently within walking distance to the waterfront, restaurants, pubs, shops etc. Railway station is in distance ca 1 km and you can use free trolley, which moves from Waterfront to station and back in every 15 min. From King Str - Old Town station to Washington DC city centre (L'Enfant Plaza st) - 6 stops by yellow line and to Arlington Cemetery - 6 stops by blue line. I travelled alone, but have got a twin room with wide beds. Room was comfy, cozy and clean. The bathroom was luxuriously decorated and had a bathtube. In the closet by mini-bar-freezer was a big choice of consumables, so no problems, if you have forgotten teeth brush at home or you have not enough time for visiting souvenir shops: you can buy everything in your hotel room.
I was here for a wedding, and apparently there were several wedding parties here at the time. Very busy -- even the large lobby was crowded at almost all times. This is a large hotel -- I wouldn't label it as "boutique" but it is a very comfortable and clean place to stay, with nice rooms and excellent staff. Even though the hotel was busy with some areas closed off at times (notably the restaurant at breakfast for a private function), I managed to be alone in the indoor pool (there was also a lifeguard) with the adjacent fitness center empty. The location was great -- a few blocks to the riverfront and many nearby restaurants (including "Madeleine" for a fine breakfast across the street).
