"First class by anyone's standards"
My wife and I absolutely loved sating at the westin. Being a 110 year old motel the interior is beautiful, with the staff were more than helpful with any enquiries. Our room was oversized and roomy with an upscale feel.step out the door and there is union square in which the city evolves around. 10/10.
"lovely and historic hotel"
We stayed on the 25th floor of the new tower in a king room. Terrific view of the bay. Funky elevators require your key card to access but have no floor buttons inside which adds to the security features. Oak room buffet in the old section of the hotel is beautiful and the breakfast buffet, though pricey, was delicious. They offer the option of no maid service if you are there more than 1 day, which I thought referred to not changing sheets or towels but meant no one would service the room, so be aware. Very nice and high end.
"Good and convenient to be in downtown"
Stayed in a four people room on a summer night. Hotel service is super sweet and the view is just amazing. The only bad thing about the hotel is you would have to be an SPG member to enjoy the free wifi services. But in general this hotel is recommended to go. The breakfast here is not as good as you imagine but its decent as a five star hotel.
"Great location and views, good staff, noisy elevator"
I visited this hotel for one night while attending a software development conference in the hotel. I paid a rate that was a good value because of the conference attendance The check in process was excellent and the clerk offered to put me in a room with a better view for no additional cost. The room was spacious (for SF) and I had an excellent view from the 17th floor. The hotel is conveniently located near a Bart station and there are plenty of places to eat and shop close by. There was only one oddity - I kept hearing what sounded like either thunder or the rumbling of the subway beneath the building (but I was pretty high up, so that seemed unlikely). The noise was fairly regular but tapered off as the night went on. I eventually realized it was the elevator shaft next door to my room. I was able to sleep fine, but I could see how someone more sensitive to noise might have had a difficult time. Checkout was fine but not quite as nice as the check-in. I tried to print out my boarding pass from the self-service kiosk and went through a couple of rounds with a busy concierge who kept giving me unhelpful instructions ("you have to click on the plane") on how to use it before realizing it was not functional. No problem, they were nice enough to print it out for me. I'd stay here again if I could get the same rate. Otherwise, the rack rate would put it outside of the range of what I would consider a great value.
"Great stay for business"
I was in town for a meeting and I usually stay outside of town. This is a great Westin, centrally located, well appointed with just an excellent staff. Check in was a breeze with just super friendly folks. Room was clean and well taken care. Workout room was also kept up well which is important for me. I would highly recommend and will definitely be back the next time I am in San Francisco.
