"Above average hotel"
I've stayed here a number of times for business, but stayed for vacation this time. They've update the lobby, bar and restaurant areas - much nicer than before! Room was nice with a good view. Very easy location to get in and out of. Staff was very attentive and friendly - not sure I would recommend the restaurant though -- very expensive for breakfast buffet. Otherwise, would recommend.
How many times do you get to make a first impression' When we first arrived, Park Central had two people working registration, with two lines, so I waited on one of the lines. When the person ahead of me was finished, I stepped up to the desk and the young lady said "excuse me" and left with a big smile carrying a plant. I waited like a dummy for a while but she never came back. That will always be my first and lasting impression of the service at Park Central. Here is another example of Park Central's level of service. We stayed 5 nights, we are very clean, the only thing we needed was to change our towels and for additional toilet paper. We took the dirty towels to the maid, put our garbage in her garbage bag and put our recycle with hers. We asked her to just change the towels, she said no because our room was not on her list. We said we don't require service just change to towels, one for one. No. Does she think we are stealing towels from a $330 plus tax per night room' We called the front desk and they sent up 4 sets of towels and didn't take the old. What difference does it make besides making us annoyed' Another example. Our safe was not working. The hotel sent a person from security to verify that it was not working. Then he had to call engineering who came to verify security verifying us that the safe was not working. Engineering thought the battery needed to be changed. He came up with a programming tool but no battery. They sent another person up with a battery. After a while they determined that they could not fix the safe and left. Later they returned with another safe and proceeded to replace the non working safe. They unbolted the old safe and had to bang it out. They bolted in the new safe, told us it was fixed and left. The problem, in addition to this laughable display of ineptitude (this can't be the first time Park Central encountered a non working safe) is that they did all the chopping, unbolting and bolting with our coats, suits and gowns still in the closet! Service this rude and poor amongst so many employees and departments is a solid indictment of the management team and ultimately the general manager who accepts this level of service to represent the hotel. On the positive side, the room appeared to have been renovated recently, the carpet was fresh, the bed was comfortable and the furniture was well kept. The HVAC and all the lights worked but the coffee maker spit out coffee from the top of the filter tray. It made a mess but we cleaned it up. I've used the exact same coffee maker in other Starwood Hotels, but with a deeper tray, with no problems. The location of the hotel is convenient. Located within walking distance of the BART and many Muni bus lines. All together I would take a point away for the receptionist and a point for the maid. They were just rude.
"Will visit again! "
This hotel is located in central downtown, walking distance to many great spots. The staff was really friendly and the room was modern and comfy! The only negative thing I can say is that the room was smaller than I imagined from the pictures but considering I wasn't there to stay in a hotel room, I was perfectly fine with it :)
"Great views and good location"
Standard hotel fare. This is the old Westin and I don't recall any big changes decor-wise. Looks the same, feels the same which is good because I like the Westin. 27th floor facing south has a gorgeous view of Yerba Buena and the city. The big bay windows is definitely a plus. The bathroom accessories were a disappointment. No ear buds, cotton buds! Location is great. It's walking distance to shopping, embarcadero,... but then again most of the city is walking distance! The prices kept on dropping until the day we were staying (a Thursday) so I would recommend that you book for a cancellable room and keep on checking for lower price.
"Roomy, modern, with great views"
Our room with two queen beds on the 31st floor had a great view all the way to Alcatraz and including many city buildings and neighborhoods. Moving around the city from here was easy, with buses, cable cars, and historic street cars running within a block or two. We took the BART from the airport and it was an easy walk from the station to the hotel. We even walked to the famous Ferry Building from here one day, and it was fairly easy. One of the few flat walks in the city! The room and bathroom were both large for SF standards. Definitely upgrade to higher floors for the view if you plan to spend any time in the room and the weather is nice. Even without the view, this is convenient, comfortable, clean, and of good value. Our only complaints were that our room was right behind the elevator and that was noisy and the staff misinformed us about the parameters of our breakfast-included package and the bill for that was eye-popping. The good news is that the charges were quickly removed and the staff was apologetic. Starwood membership is also a bonus, as it allowed us to get free wi-fi which can cost $15 - $20 a day there. We recommend!
