"The ideal location to explore a fascinating city."
My Dad, brother and I spent a week in this awesome hotel. Located within the Medina - the old walled city - the Villa Garance was a wonderful oasis hidden within the labyrinthine streets that comprise this amazing city. The rooms were lovely (I had a brilliant room on the roof and could walk out to breakfast on the roof in the sun and with astounding views out to sea and across the rooftops) and very comfortable, the bed especially. It was also very clean and looked immaculate - as if I'd not slept there the night before - when I came back. There is plenty to do and see around Essaouira and my Dad and brother were keen to try kite-surfing, riding on the beach, as well as exploring slightly further afield. Marie and her husband Pierre who own and run the Riad were able to offer brilliant advice of where to get the best experiences and best deals. We really packed a lot into our week's stay but the hotel was located so centrally that we didn't feel worn-out and often we would return after lunch and spend the afternoon lounging on the roof on the deck-chairs. The Villa Garance definitely seemed to be the perfect relaxing spot to take a pause from the vibrant and packed streets. My Dad was keen to try cooking some local dishes as well and the wonderful cook took us to the market where we loaded up on local produce and spices before cooking a truly delicious, traditional, three-course meal. It should be noted that the food throughout our stay was very good - especially for my brother and me who are vegan. There is great sea-food (obviously) if you want it but for us, the cuisine was well suited since it doesn't rely on dairy products and is all very fresh. I really hope to return and loved talking to Marie who was particularly kind to let me practice French with her! Thank you to all the staff as well - they really looked after us and went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable. We couldn't have asked for more and the Villa Garance ticked all the boxes. À la prochaine!
"Hoping to return soon!"
I have stayed in. Number of riads and this ranks with the best. The suite we stayed in was big and comfortable. The roof terrace has good views with lots of places to sit or recline in the sun. The staff were brilliant, smiling, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was spot on and the dinner we had there on our first night was delicious. The only slight downside was that the lane the villa is on can be quite noisy. The school kids do a great alarm call at ten to eight and overnight there were a few people shouting. But it didn't affect my sleep too much and I would still go back but might ask for a room not overlooking the lane! Oh, the woman who comes to do the massages is amazing! Definitely worth booking yourself in! Thanks for such a great stay in Essaouira x
"Good location, quality and service"
I have visited three times Essaouira and this riad has been the best out of the three stays. The Riad itself is a beatifull house nicely decorated, luminous and with such a magnificent terrace with different spaces to chill out, relax and have breakfast vith incredibles views to the sea. The rooms are very clean, spacious and with huge and comfortable beds. The staff is more than polite and correct. And the managers María and Pierre are charming and decisive. They helped us out with a couple of good advices. It is very well located and the price is definitely worthy.
"Really well run family hotel/Riad"
Lovely small hotel that is very comfortable and the service is excellent. Have stayed here repeatedly for over 10 years and have always returned for one of the best places to stay and the best coffee in the morning on the roof terrace.
The warm-hearted and kindness of the owners and staff is only scratching the surface of this wonderful place in a beautiful town. Off the main road in the Medina, close to the town square, this place stands between all the fun and the helpful quiet you'd want from an inn. When I needed help for work and for a medical concern, the lovely folks there were quick and generous in their help. I highly recommend this place for absolutely anyone. We were a couple in a regular room: clean, spacious, well lit, quiet, warm on those chilly nights and cozy. And above all, it was welcoming - with a tasty breakfast. Thank you!
