"Very nice clean hotel in a good location"
Stayed here for 4 nights as it was next to the train station and close to where my conference was being held. I'm Marriott Platinum but as there is no lounge and this is not a Marriott it doesn't mean much. The room was modern, newly renovated, clean and well appointed. It's not luxurious and perfectly functional as a business stay. The location was good, just next door to the Sants station if you want to travel to other parts of Spain, close to the open top Tourist bus stop, and a number of restaurants, cafes and even a small convenience store. I would stay again.
I stayed only for 1night, the room was nice but could be cleaner for european standards. The station is right across the street where you can buy a coffee or something to eat. City centre is 15 min by taxi.
"Marriott Loyalty Means Nothing "
Marriott loyalty means nothing here. A place to sleep and shower for 7 nights. That's about it. Upon check in and giving my Marriott Rewards number with gold status, we learned that breakfast each morning was an additional €17 per person. After going online, we found a room rate for €10 more that included breakfast but the manager wouldn't allow us to change the rate - but sent the front desk staff to relay that message. Wouldn't it be better to get another €70 in revenue over 7 days and display a little understanding and compromise' The fact that the manager stayed in the back without talking to us says a lot about this place. We didn't have breakfast there (not for €34 a day) - we ate across the street. Each night we would see the restaurant staff setting up for breakfast the next morning and then we would see only a handful of folks having breakfast the next day. If they're setting it up anyway, why not reward loyal rewards members, after all - there are plenty of hotel choices in Barcelona. The same status with Hilton would have gotten us breakfast, regret not going that route - I'll think again before booking an AC branded hotel in Spain. I don't need staff members to be my best friend but a simple 'hello', 'good morning' doesn't take much effort, especially as the elevators are directly in front of the front desk, and the whole breakfast conversation upon check in made it quite clear that the management of this hotel has very little respect for Marriott loyalty, not to mention a 5% commission for exchanging dollars into Euros. In my opinion, this hotel management could do with a crash course on customer service training and realize that when it comes to international travel, especially with status, it doesn't take a lot to make a Marriott loyalty guest feel welcome and this review would have been somewhat different.
"All Girls Trip"
My friends and I decided to visit three cities: Madrid, Barcelona, and Ibiza in a weeks' time frame. And although, the prices were extremely high in the close proximity areas of Barcelona (due to last minute booking), the AC Hotel was most reasonable especially being that it is a Marriot Hotel. When catching a cab from the airport to the AC hotel, the price is about 35-45 dollars, and it takes about 20-30 to get there. Not bad at all, for arriving and departing to and from the airport. And although there is train transportation less than a mile away in walking distance; it is most useful when going into the city of Barcelona (Gothic area, Las Ramblas...etc) which is only several stops and/or less than 30 minutes away from all of the highlighted monuments. Be sure to get the T1 tickets for the train. As for the AC Hotel in whole, it is very clean, quiet, and modern. It can be compared to a business hotel during the day, but at night... it is completely quiet. There isn't anything going on as it pertains to tourist sights and bars on this side of town. However, the hotel is set up really nice, and provides just what is needed for your stay; although the hotel can run short on their wash-clothes both nights we were there. All in all, I would recommend this hotel to others who are looking for relaxation, save money, but still wants to party at their leisure. I, on the other hand would prefer a hotel a lot closer opposed to catching a train to and from the hotel, although commuting is not so bad at all.
We stayed here for 3 nights on a trip to Barcelona, and we were very happy with the location. It is a beautiful hotel. Wonderful breakfast! There is a bus terminal across the street, so if you need an ATM, or to buy water bottles, etc., it's very handy. It's about 3 blocks from the subway station, too. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and the tv was large.
