"A cool place to stay"
This is a nice place to stay if you are travelling on a budget. Low cost, but you get a clean room, comfortable bed, nice bathroom and shower. Yes, it is a bit small, but you should be exploring anyway! You have a choice of a king size bed or 2 double beds. Take note so you can plan accordingly. We paid about $85 for one night and it worked perfectly. Good, friendly staff and nice bar.
"remote and over priced"
We used an online booking to book a room at Barcelona SANTS ( train station) as we had a long flight back to Australia next day and wanted to see the immediate Sants area. On the day we turned up to be told wrong hotel and we were at SOM. so a 26 Euro taxi ride entailed and we booked in, the area is desolate and remote from Barcelona Central area so if any one is travelling like us best not to stay here. There is a shopping centre nearby but that is it. The room was ok but shower looked unclean but two single beds put together made the double, being on wheels we ended up separate anyway. There is no coffee or tea making facility in the room (and for the price a rather basic commodity) so we assumed the staff must be well paid. had we known it was in the middle of nowhere we would have paid extra to stay at a different chain. due to the location we had to get a taxi to the airport as to get to a train station was not viable with luggage so a further 26 euros, we found one cafe next morning and ate breakfast outside as the hotel breakfast did not look worth the expense ( for us being vegetarian) . It was our first in a Marriott and probably the last.
The walls are so thin you can hear a conversation in the next room and hear a person sneeze in the other next room. The breakfast is not included and was not worth the price. There is a funky sewer smell outside the hotel.
"Away from CBD"
Quick stopover in this hotel while waiting to pick up cruise. Quite a way from city and so this maybe reflected in prices ,booked as part off a bigger trip so unsure of exact cost, but a 20 Euro taxi ride each way, may be better put to use on a room nearer the centre. As only one night we did nor really use the facilities , but room was fine and with a very early flight and a day in the city would have slept on a washing line so bed was fantastic. only fault, early taxi pick up asked at reception if we were in the hotel but either he had the wrong name or they did , Think it was reception so they never called us to let us know the taxi was waiting so he left' Taxi was prepaid so had to pay for another to the cruise terminal. Depending on length of stay and reason for being in Barcelona this is a good hotel to stay at.
"Budget option for Barcelona"
The AC Hotel Som offers a decent budget option for Barcelona. The rooms are simple, but clean, comfortable and fresh. I found the food to be good - both the room service, and the breakfast bar which offered a good range for a hotel of this size and type. It is to be noted that the hotel is certainly not in downtown Barcelona, but offers a good option if you are flexible on location or need to be in this part of town.
