Stay here when in Madrid! You will feel like a celebrity as you arrive and depart as the staff at this 5 star hotel is incredibly professional and attentive. They welcomed me by name and provided me access to the gym (as I arrived prior to my husband, at about 7:30 am from the US).The bellhop carried my heavy luggage up and down a few stairs to the downstairs gym with a smile on his face. I took a sauna, a steam, showered and changed clothes and was then asked by the front desk staff if I would like some coffee. I happily agreed to coffee and was led to the gorgeous outdoor patio and brought coffee and a tray of pastries, jams and toast with juice. Upon getting ready to leave, I asked the waiter for the bill and was told the front desk staff member arranged this breakfast for me (complimentary). I was so impressed and thankful for that kind gesture- and I hadn't even checked in to our room yet! This hotel property is stunning. It used to belong to a Spanish aristocrat and it looks it! The furnishings and double height grand rooms, sitting rooms and bar are so stately that you can't help but feel like royalty here. Our room was huge, with a seating area and furnished in modern, calming tones and trendy artwork (yes, we even talked about the artwork in our room!) The bathroom soaps and lotions were wonderful. This was the first hotel room we've ever had with a walk in closet! This is a gorgeous property with warm, attentive, classy staff--I won't stay anywhere else next time I'm in Madrid!
"Classic hotel and Service "
Stayed here for 3 nights and enjoyed the classic style of the public rooms and surroundings. Easy 25 min walk to the main museums and lots restaurants. The hotel concierge was very helpful in doing bookings, which I recommend for some of the bigger museums, and also helped with train tickets. Restaurants were good, although liquor was pricey, but considering the setting, worth the spend. Wifi good. Room bed was excellent and good sized for Europe. Really enjoyed the stay.
"Loved our Stay at Santo Mauro!"
Every aspect of our stay was wonderful. We were treated so warmly and thoughtfully at this palace. Our rooms were beautiful and functional. As others have noted the public rooms are masterpieces and lovely to spend time in. Peaceful and safe. The neighborhood had a variety of casual dining options. I can't wait to come back to this special property! Free internet was excellent.
"Madrid Trip "
We had stayed at their sister hotel in Barcelona and really liked it, but I think this was a better experience. From the minute we arrived the staff was very attentive and friendly. Our room was large and quiet, both with a tub and shower. The hotel was located within walking distance of all the places we wanted, if you didn’t want to walk, there were taxis everywhere and inexpensive. We loved the time we spent in Madrid.
"Wish We Had More Time Here"
We stayed at the Hotel Santo Mauro for our last night in Spain after returning to Madrid from Sevilla. An AC Autograph property managed by Marriott, the building is a former palace/mansion. In a word, the property is STUNNING. The architecture is magnificent. We had booked a suite using a combination of Marriott points and cash and, upon check in, learned we had been upgraded to the Presidential Suite!!! It was a recently renovated suite with an enormous sitting room, a private balcony and a view of the gardens. It was our 20th anniversary and we were surprised with a bottle of wine and a chartcuterie tray which we enjoyed on our balcony. The garden bar was a beautiful setting to have a drink and you could enjoy dinner in the garden as well (we ventured back into Madrid). I can't overstate how cool this property is....even in a standard room I would be raving about this place. Finally, the staff was so friendly and helpful. In fact, my wife lost her cellphone in the cab on our way to the airport the next morning. We called the hotel to make sure we didn't leave it at checkout. The cab driver returned it to the hotel the next day and the staff tracked us down and helped us arrange to have it returned. If there is a downside, it's a quite a bit north of the center of Madrid. That said, we walked there without any issues and enjoyed wandering as we got there (check out the Mercado de San Anton and the arepas!!!). Depending on how much walking you want to do, you may need an occasional cab. But I guarantee you that you won't complain. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful
