Very good location close to all tourist spots. Excellent bedrooms and en suite. Hot breakfast option is poor bearing in mind you can only choose porridge OR a full breakfast. Dinner allowance on half board is a miserly £15. Bar is nice and spacious but lacks ambience - maybe some background music.
Had a great stay at the Apex. From the time we arrived until we checked out this hotel never failed to impress. All staff were so friendly and would do anything to help, the bar staff, waiting staff to the cleaning staff, always greeted you with a smile.
"Great Place to Stay While in Edinburgh"
We stayed at the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel twice since we arrived in Scotland. For two days when we arrived in Scotland and for four days at the end of our Scotland trip. The Apex Waterloo Place Hotel has been a great place to stay. Although central to most spots in Edinburgh, it is on a less busy block than most of the large hotels. It is right at the foot of Calton Hill. For our stay at the beginning of our trip we were upgraded to a suite as I had asked for a quiet room. What can I say' Room 852 was a fabulous room. Two rooms, actually. Along with a huge bathroom. The view looked out toarwds Calton Hill. When we returned to the Apex Waterloo at the end of our Scotland trip, we asked for the same room but it was booked, so they gave us the room next door, Room 851. Though not two rooms, it was a huge room with another large bathroom. Both rooms are nicely appointed. Both of these rooms were in a corner of the hotel, acessesd by the 8th floor, but up a flight of stairs. So, if you have mobility issues or can't lug your suitcase, these rooms would not be for you. The service at the Waterloo Apex has been great. The breakfasts good, though we only ate the continental breakfasts. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant, Elliot's, twice. The food and service were both good.
"Lovely hotel, comfortable and well located."
The Apex Waterloo was well located, clean and comfortable. The breakfast, which was included, was excellent. We had a meal in the restaurant and a small meal in the sitting room/bar which also were excellent. The staff could not have been nicer. I highly recommend this hotel
"Excellent hotel, fantastic location, great staff!"
First ever visit to Scotland and the location of this hotel for exploring Edinburgh could not have been better, particularly as we had travelled by train. Greeted by friendly staff on our arrival who were very helpful and efficient. The room was very nice, clean and well equipped including secure safe, iron, TV with Sky Sports, (wife and I divided on that one!), and the usual hot drink facilities. Bathroom included large bath and separate shower. Toilet did drip though it wasn't a problem at night with the door closed. There was a lot of noise however from room above when the occupants were taking a shower, not great if they had an early start, could do with better sound proofing. Also, the black out curtains did not quite meet properly and daylight would either pour in through the middle or far left first thing in the morning. Sampled the restaurant on the first night and have to say the food was excellent and the set menu made it very good value. I would like to praise the restaurant staff, in particular Piotor who could not have been a more attentive, ultra polite and professional waiter and also the restaurant manager, whose name I unfortunately did not note but who fully explained everything on our arrival. Superb!
