"Jet2 City Break"
My wife and I, along with another couple spent 3 nights, mid week, at this hotel. Although it is a fair distance from the centre we enjoy walking and most of the major attractions are easily reached on foot. If you'd prefer to use public transport both tram and bus are close to the hotel. We had rooms 43 and 45 on the ground floor. Both were clean and tidy with a fridge, safe and tea/coffee making facilities. Ours had two lovely dressing gowns and slippers whilst our friends didn't. This was soon rectified after a word with reception. There are two restaurants and having arrived late on the first night we ate in the Harbour. It was very busy but we managed to get seated round the fire in the middle of the room. Service was slow but the food was good. (And expensive) Having had an enjoyable meal we decided to try again on the second night. There had been a cancellation and therefore we were placed at a good table. On the first night I had had the BBQ chicken which was delicious and so the other three in the party went for this on the second night. When it came all three were cold. These were sent back and when they finally returned they were only just luke warm. At the end of the meal with some very polite discussions the three chicken meas were taken off the bill. A buffet breakfast is served in the a la carte restaurant from six thirty with a small selection of warm dishes, choice of breads and fruit yogurts and fruit. Tables were cleared quickly and the staff were very friendly. Housekeeping was hit and miss. The tea and coffee weren't replaced in either room so down to reception again. This failed to produce any results for room 43. The beds weren't made up on the second morning. The room had aircon which unfortunately I failed to master. The hotel caters for a wide range of guests with many I would guess are on expenses. We found it expensive - 2 gin and tonics, glass of wine and a coffee - came out at £35. Despite the costs and the dinner problems we enjoyed our stay at the Apollo. The location is amazing sat at the junction of a number of canals.
I stayed here for 4 nights I have eyed here before when it was the windham Apollo hotel and it has had a revamp which is in good taste quite art deco. The room are good all staff friendly and helpful. However I did have a moment on my first night when I was fast asleep in my bed and a couple entered my room at 12:15 at night time! I was very confused having been in a deep sleep and two people stood at the end of my bed having turned all the lights on! My heart was going very fast and I was in total shock!!!! They apologised and left my room with haste. I called reception and Annan the man who answered apologised for the mistake and told me it was a computer system error and that everything was fine now! Well not for me it wasn't I couldn't sleep at all. I asked to speak with the manager early next morning who was Philip Herter he was very sorry for the mistake and offered me a free breakfast I declined as I had to be at the Rai centre for work, he then gave me two vouchers for the bar and when I returned to my room later there was a note of apologies again and a bar of chocolate. I was a bit too tired to pursue my horrible nightmare of an experience and in hindsight maybe I should have done so but my work hours at the rain centre were very long. Don't get me wrong I like the hotel stay there I recommend it for sure but put your lock on the door at night is my tip. I think I could have been offered more from the Apollo management as in a free stay for a couple of nights even to try to make me feel I was taken seriously. I could possibly then take my wife and erase that awful experience of total strangers entering my room probably even seeing me naked in bed the thought just makes me feel very uneasy to say the least. When checking out I spoke with Celine who was very kind and extended my room for 1hrs free of charge as usually €10 per hour extra cost. I explained about my first night and she already seemed to be aware. Probably all the hotel know-how which is also a bit embarrassing too. I left a message thanking Philip for the note and chocolate as I always treat people with courtesy and kindness and this impact will still not change my view on life. Anyway basically the hotel and staff are very good. Nice quite location bars and restaurants within at 10 -15 minute walk! Which is the same for the rai centre approximately. Airport to hotel approx €45 however I think they do run a courtesy bus too! The food is very good when I ate out I did not try the restaurant at the hotel due mainly to business commitments. Pleasant room views of the canals I was in Room 246 Enjoy your stay Gary.
I stayed at the hotel with my kids! Great staff and really beautiful room! Room was kind of warm and the staff solved my problem in none time! I will be back really soon in Amsterdam. Restaurants were really nice too and breakfast was big too!
"A great base for city break."
A lovely hotel at a reasonable price. Great access to trams on a variety of routes. Lots of restaurants within about 10 minutes by foot and supermarket nearby too. Only about 20 minutes walk to the the Van Gogh Museum.
"Excellent stay topped off by brilliant staff."
We have just returned from our stay at the Apollo Hotel and we can genuinely recommend it as a wonderful destination for leisure and business travellers. I had mentioned when booking that it was my partner's birthday and was delighted to find that management has remembered and bought cake up to the room. This really made a difference and the whole hotel had a great feel to it, it was great to see staff look relaxed and cheerful with guests.
