"Exceptional Service - beautiful location"
This was our forth holiday here in the last 5 years, and by far the best. We had a two bed junior suite which had stunning sea views and also overlooked the beautiful gardens too, we stayed half board, which for us is the best deal if you like exploring Crete beyond the hotel. The 3 restaurants; buffet and 2 a la carte are superb and cater for all tastes, fish, meat, vegetarian etc. The 2 a la carte restaurants have themed nights which may carry a small surplus charge, but are well worth it. The private beach is accessible via steps which may pose problems for some, but there were people in the 80's who manged ok, however, the pools are easily accessible. The beach it well supported for those who like their water sports, including 'free diving taster'. The beach bar is also well stocked and offers a good selection of snacks. The hotel staff we found to be the most friendly you could meet, from the porter to the head manager, they are always willing to help, provide advice and have a chat. The guest relations staff went that extra mile from the moment we arrived with champagne to the moment we left.....more champagne. Over the last 4 visits, we now look upon the staff as friends, coming back is more than a holiday now. The nearby town of Elounda is a delightful fishing port with may friendly tavernas, cafes, bars and souvenir shops. A short bus ride or taxi away is Agios Nikolaos, with many more shops etc. You will not be disappointed if you stayed here.
"Relaxing Week Away"
Me and my boyfriend stayed here for a week . The Hotel is about 1 hour from the Heraklion Airport , or 1h 30mins with a transfer . It's Adults only Hotel so if you're looking for a couples getaway this place is perfect ! We arrived early in the morning and were greeted with glasses of champagne . The Bell-Boy took us to our room with our luggage via a Golf Buggy . Our room was sleek with a TV , Canopy type bed , a large Mirror , a Mini Bar and a Stereo (and on-suite bathroom of course). The Wifi here is free and fast . The staff here are very friendly and helpful - with reception staff offering us helpful suggestions of where to eat out in Elounda . Meal times are fantastic as they finish late - for example Breakfast finishes at 11am and Dinner ends at 9pm . Our all inclusive board covers a variety of things including ; a large variety of drinks & alcoholic drinks , All 3 meals a day at the Buffet , Mini-bar drinks , Some free meals at the 2 A La Carte restaurants and discounts on other meals . The Main town of Agios Nikolaos is a 10/15 minute drive and the main village of Elounda is a 5 minute drive . There is plenty of things to do in the town & village - but the Hotel does offer its own activities such as Water Sports , Spa and Evening Entertainment . While there is only a small beach at the hotel , there is plenty of sun beds to sunbathe and there is local beaches in Elounda available to the public to sunbathe . The hotel itself & the views it has is gorgeous aesthetically and is more suited to mature guests .Overall I'd definitely recommend this hotel to any couples looking for a relaxing week away .
"Very good, but a few niggles"
Overall, (we are currently here and leave in a day) we have had a lovely stay on a half board basis. We were after a week's relaxation after a stressful few months and the quiet and serene location provide exactly that. The staff were friendly, attentive and there were lots of really nice touches (e.g. a glass of fizz on arrival) that made us feel welcomed and cared for. I'll write the rest of the positives, and the issues we had. in a list: Positives - The room is spacious (especially the bed!) and filled with everything you need, with plenty of tea, coffee and milk options. There is also a fridge which has space in, alongside the mini bar provisions, for your own drinks which is excellent for half boarders. We also arrived to a free bottle of water and local wine. Our balcony was also a nice size with good sea views - The buffet at breakfast and dinner was mostly excellent with lots of choice for meat eaters and veggies. All very tasty too. The staff serving are always attentive and pleasant and cannot do enough for you - some of them were there all day and never looked tired of looking after you! - The a la carte restaurants also have excellent food, good service, and lovely views - The hotel is in a beautiful spot on the coast, with its own little beach area and stunning views. Elounda and 'Ag Nik' (Agios Nikolaos) are also a short walk (35 mins) for the former, and taxi ride (about 15 mins; 14 Euros) for the latter. - The tour rep for Thomson was excellent, with a good presence and helpful advice Downsides - On arrival, our hotel room was full of mosquitoes (11/12 !) and flying ant-looking bugs - once the preventative plug was in (which they provide - helpful!) we didn't see more mosquitos but we definitely had a problem with bugs generally despite not leaving the doors open. Not sure if this is just an unlucky spot for them but we have certainly acquired bug squashing skills -'Do not disturb' signs were redundant for us - ours was removed by someone in the morning followed by several knocks in the afternoon if we stayed in the room! - Some buffet items don't get replaced often enough considering their popularity, e.g. the orange juice runs out a lot at breakfast, as does the low fat milk by the cereal (I recognise we might be here at a very busy time though and everything else at the buffet is excellent). Drinks as half boarders are also very expensive - as other people have mentioned, 4+ euros for water is extortionate. This could be easily solved by providing a low cost option, e.g. just a jug of cheap water for the table (it's ~1 Euro at the shops in town!), for the half boarders - we would still buy a soft drink too most likely. - On arrival (we got there around 3am), we were told that as we had missed a meal we could have an option of a free buffet lunch or a 12 Euro voucher for the a la carte during the week. Great, we thought. However, we weren't told that this meant we weren't able to have a final evening meal on the last day (we aren't flying until 01.25 and are leaving the hotel at 9.30pm-ish) - had we been told this, we wouldn't have used it! So be aware of this. - I was only able to get a sunbed by the main pool once in 6 days because (as usual!) selfish people reserve them too early and then leave them - the beach area is more successful, and lovely with lots of facilities such as water sports, but generally the swimming spaces feel very cramped for the amount of people staying. I'm not a massive sun worshipper but on the occasion I did fancy a swim, this was annoying. Nonetheless, we have had a lovely stay and would recommend for couples wanting a relaxing holiday in a lovely resort with some good on-site facilities and food. I wish I could have tried the water sports and diving centre (as we booked it in part for this)but I've since become pregnant and couldn't!! But everyone we saw using these looked like they were having a great time. A tip: if you are half board, there are some lovely (and much cheaper!) options in Elounda and Ag Nik for eating and drinking at lunchtime than the hotel, so consider heading out and enjoying the local tavernas. We can especially recommend Olondi restaurant in Elounda for excellent food and romantic views! All in all, a great holiday despite some of the niggles, so thanks to all the staff who clearly work very hard.
"Beautiful Hotel - Diving facilities great"
Stayed here 8th to 18th June. The staff were amongst the best I've ever come across. So friendly and helpful, always smiling. For us the location was perfect , away from it all, no kids, everything at our fingertips and the food was of a very high standard. It ticked all the boxes. I had come specifically to dive and having the dive centre on site was brilliant. They all were very professional , every dive was accompanied, and the dive sites really good. After saying that there were a few niggles. We were pleased we had opted for all inclusive as the bar and meal prices are very expensive. But it was irritating that 'all inclusive' doesn't mean that. In the two A La Carte restaurants there was a premium on probably about half the meals on offer. In addition there are a number of nights where if you want to dine in the A La Carte restaurants you have no option but to pay as they are so called 'Theme nights' where the average cost was approx €40. Have had a number of all inclusive holidays and never experienced so much with an added premium. We will know next time. We arrived very late , unpacked and it wasn't until the morning that we saw our terrace. we had 'upgraded' to a 'Romantic Bungalow' with balcony or terrace . Our terrace was tiny and dominated by a HUGE palm tree that blocked out most of the view. (see picture). We complained but were told the hotel was full and we couldn't be moved. Warning , do not accept room 614 !! The room also had only one bedside table and no drawers whatsoever. Although we had a small bottle of wine and water in our room there was no sign of the promised bowl of fruit, although the plates were there! and our bed was only turned down once during our stay. Little things that make a 5* resort. Overall the service was good although at busy times quite slow. There was only one occasion where every sun bed was taken at 10am and we had to pay €30 for a gazebo. Although there are notices that towels would be moved from beds if left vacant for more than an hour , we never saw this policy being followed. I'm posting this so that it might help future travellers and after all that I've said I would go back to this hotel , but would make sure I get to see the room first.
