"Nice Property, but Room for Improvement"
Nice hotel in terms of: the ruins, the hospitable staff (Ruslan), and breakfast with Lavazza espresso (great breakfast and quality espresso) Room for improvement: In terms of a five star property, one expects that there is a certain level of service and service provision. One should receive water on a daily basis in one's room, one should be able to get room service without paying a 20% fee, one should be able to use the spa area (meaning the sauna and steam rooms), and one should be able to use an iron free of charge. We were perturbed by not having these services/items available to us, so they kindly sent us a bottle of wine. This was a lovely surprise and it was on the birthday of one of my colleagues. At the same time, I am purely listing above the basic necessities that one expects at a five star rather than including even additional areas where they could improve. I hope to return and see the change!
"4 days in sofia"
Really liked the staff and the service provided. Room was spacious and clean. The lobby is of course very special, different and fun historically interesting. The breakfast was good, and also the restaurant (did not get to visit the panoramic restorant on the 9th floor though).
"Excellent suite. Very good hotel, well located."
Arrived early, and were offered an upgrade to a suite, as our room was not ready. The suite was very good. Excellent bathroom with a bath. Rooms had good light. Breakfast excellent. Located only minutes walk to central attractions.
"Horribly ignorant receptionist and hotel policies!"
I’d like to share my horrible experience in this mediocre hotel. I was going to visit my best friend and we wanted to go out partying after I pick him up from his room. First of all it was very uncomfortable to get there due to the construction works and closed streets and entrance is very hard to find. So my first impression was negative. As soon as I got in and headed to the elevator, the male receptionist almost came to me forcibly to ask me what I’m doing here and to ask for my ID, and the number of the room (my best friend’s room) I’m visiting!!!!!! He treated me like a prostitu*te, which is very unacceptable for a woman who has her own business and has had career achievements throughout her whole life! I felt discriminated against for just being a woman and moreover this receptionist who was apparently very ignorant and was stereotyping because I’m a woman in heels after 22:00 o’clock (how sick is that). Have these Bulgarian primitives heard of women rights at all' I was beyond appalled and told him the number of the room. He had the audacity to ask me for my Id which I gave him and I asked him why do you need my id. He replied that’s hotel policy after 22:00 o’clock and called the room of my best friend!! After that he had the audacity to ask him to pay 20 extra euros for me staying there as hotel policy without me stating I’m staying there or anything!!!! '''' Unbelievable! I asked him, sir, when are you giving me my id card back and he told me whenever you leave''' This started to sound more and more like the FBI, zero privacy, I felt like I was being questioned and interrogated by the receptionist. Getting into the privacy of your clients is totally and STRICTLY forbidden in Western Europe. With all due respect, I graduated hotel management in Amsterdam and have stayed at multiple hotels all over the world since I love traveling and never got such a mortifying treatment. When I went out he looked at me like I’m a prosti*tute and handed me my id like what on earth. I was so offended that I wanted to complain to the manager but knowing that they’ll do nothing to improve since this is Bulgaria, I decided to post this opinion here so it stays forever on their wall and reminds them of the primitive stereotypical treatment they give. The rooms were plain for the price and I was appalled. I would never return, nor will I recommend this nightmare hotel to anybody else, especially to women who are entering the building alone. Overall, this is why Bulgaria’s hotel services can’t get better, as they hire incompetent judgmental, demotivated and ignorant youngsters with low salary without any experience. As a person who’s graduated hotel management in the Netherlands, I’m beyond appalled and this hotel will never go far and be as good as the big hotel chains abroad and especially the Dutch ones which are far better for a reason. What a true disappointment. Never ever coming back and making sure none of my family or friends will EVER go there. Shameful!!!!
"2 rooms, 4 happy people"
We arrived late from the train, yet welcomed & bags were taken to our rooms. We had a classic double room (but requested twin beds on booking which we got) & an executive double room. Both were lovely rooms with very comfortable beds. The bathrooms both had large baths & we loved the L'Occitane toiletries. The range of breakfast choices was good. There was an art display in the hotel amphitheatre. We enjoyed the relaxation area & steam room of the spa, & the complimentary glass of wine. The receptionist was very helpful. Definitely recommend hotel & location.
