"Underrated. Exceeded Expectations."
After I bought the 3D2N Spa Package in a Garden Villa to celebrate my wife's birthday, I realised that I could not go on the dates I had booked. I wrote in and the Sunway management very graciously allowed me to change the dates even though the booking terms were non-refundable and non-amendable. The accommodations are excellent. The villa not only has it's own private pool, there is also a large jacuzzi heated by the geothermal spring water. We really loved it and spent many hours just soaking in it. Just a few comments: (1) Lighting was too dim throughout the villa. (2) The television needs to be either nearer to the bed or bigger. (3) The swimming pool is on the small side for swimming. The one thing I felt they could have done better was to start filling in the jacuzzi before our arrival as it took about 5-6 hours. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. The package included daily breakfast, which had a wide range of options and was very well done. We were also very pleased with the candlelight dinner prepared for us in the Pomelo restaurant, but what really blew us away was the dinner on the second night in Jeff's Cellar. This is a restaurant in a natural and beautiful cave. There were no other diners, so we had it exclusively to ourselves. The service was impeccable, and we were glad to meet the young chef who did a fantastic job with the fine dining set menu. It was really the highlight of the trip. For that alone, we would be happy to come back. The spa services were above average. They only thing they need to add is music. The resort is small enough to walk around and very well-maintained. There are daily guided walks to the nearby Lost World theme park, where entry is complimentary for hotel guests. The rides are underwhelming but it's worth going just to see the animals and hand-feed the amazing raccoons. The hotel would send a car to fetch you back when you are ready. Service was very good and everyone from the manager down was genuinely warm and friendly. The package was rather pricey but it was a memorable experience and we would be happy to return. Our only regret was that we flew in late and flew out early.
"An excellent place to relax your mind and soul"
I booked a Garden Villa to celebrate my sister's birthday. Great staff that know the true value of customer service special mention for reception and the restaurant first class service. Dinning at the Jeff's Cellar was exceptional. It was so romantic that..... if my boyfriend proposes to me at this place, I would say ' YES, I DO! ' - Shireen
"Best weekend break we ever had – it made us very happy"
After working in KL for a week my wife and I took a 3 night weekend break at the Banjaran on the basis of some internet research backed by good word of mouth. We were blown away. This place is perfect for a stress-busting romantic long weekend. Not so far from KL (and ridiculously easy to find – say a 3 hour drive from KLIA) but set in a dramatic limestone and jungle landscape in tin mining territory, it kept surprising us and we became happier and happier here. The amenities were great. Fantastic well-kept gardens adjoining jungle. Limestone caves with flowstone and atmospheric lighting that we had all to ourselves. There is a very professional spa and a gym and nibbling fish pool and reflexology pool (ouch) but what really used up our time was the big warm swimming pool that we mostly had to ourselves, heated with mineral water and next to the thermal lake (too hot to dip in). After swimming drop into the graded hot springs pools. After hot springs pools drop into the ice pool (certainly stimulating). After the ice pool, go into the huge sauna in a cave over a thermal pool to melt a bit. Then back to the ice pool. Back to the swimming pool and repeat… exhausting. The food here is great, served by the friendliest of staff. The jewel in the crown is the opportunity for a special meal in the fantastic cave restaurant – well-lit and frankly the perfect setting for a really memorable atmospheric dinner of the absolute highest quality and style. This is Michelin level exquisite food. The next time I play the game of wishing to be anywhere in the world for dinner – this place has just replaced my long-term stock answer of the little triangle below the church in St Emilion. The Chairman keeps his wine under the restaurant and he has a great collection. I was allowed to look and it really is exceptional. Another night we had a private BBQ (just the 2 of us and 3 charming hotel staff) on "the Balcony" a natural ledge from a cave looking out over the resort at dusk. Stunning and boy was there a lot of fresh meat and seafood to get through! Apparently they were fully booked but we hardly saw anyone other than really helpful staff. Maybe the other guests were all vampires and only came out at night, or else thought two initially white and soon after red, people happily grilling, poaching and par-boiling themselves were clearly mad. We live in Dubai so this place was just warm, not hot. Hot is when your plastic sunglasses go soft and floppy on your head and the case melts on the dashboard of your car. 25 very private villas at the moment but expanding soon. I hope it remains as exclusive. Faults: it would be very hard and mean to say anything bad at all. Can I also add that any faults in the facilities are more than compensated by the fantastic friendly charming and knowledgeable staff. By way of constructive suggestions i) breakfast was ordinary not special (sorry I am from the school of pork sausage and bacon at breakfast…); ii) if they had someone in attendance for poolside service we would have taken tea or juice. But really I understand why they rely on people to ask as we were mostly alone at the pool. And I know we could have had anything we wanted if we had troubled to ask. Iii) There is a free entry to a mediocre theme park called The Lost World of Tambon just a short jungle stroll away. My advice would be go but be prepared to be underwhelmed by The Lost World and you will find something to like there but maybe a trip to Ipoh old town would be more fun for those of us the wrong side of 40. iv) being really picky now – the private pool at our villa was small but we saw no need to use it because the huge communal pool was virtually our own the whole time anyway. And they were kind enough to upgrade us to a room with a pool which we hadn’t booked to begin with anyway so who's to complain'! We ran out of time. All that in and out of the pool. This place is our all-time favourite romantic retreat and we will be back for another dose of happiness.
"Wedding anniversary "
An unforgettable experience, truly stunning. We was pampered from the moment we check in till the day we check out. Kudos to Alex and his wonderful team for making our stay a truly, awesome, unforgettable experience
We'd booked a water villa for two nights in December 2016 after travelling from Singapore, Melaka, KL and Cameron Highlands, prior to a break in Penang and Langkawi, and the Banjaran Hotsprings retreat was one of the most anticipated hotels on our itinerary. I'd chosen the trip myself and kept the hotels a secret from my partner, so to see his mouth drop open when we opened the door to our villa was priceless. Before even reaching our room, we'd been invited to bang the huge gong in reception to announce our arrival, a quirky tradition at the Banjaran. A buggy took us on a tour of the numerous facilities within the site and we couldn't wait to sample each and every experience. We were then dropped off at our villa which literally took our breath away. A private plunge pool lay inside the external gate to our villa with a decking area, behind which stood our geothermal hot tub. A large, open air seating area with a dining area lay adjacent and then a door led off to another seating area over the water. The bedroom was cool and elegant. Off this was the sink/vanity area of the bathroom and dressing area through to the toilet and shower. After making ourselves at home we wandered off and spent a mesmerising hour sitting at the Dr Fish pool watching the fish nibbling our travel-worn feet. We returned to our room and the fragrant smell of a scented oil burners in our room. We enjoyed Jeff's Cellar for drinks on both evenings followed by dinner at the Pomelo Restaurant. Early the next morning I sat in glorious silence and watched the monkeys swinging from branch to branch in the distant trees. After an a la carte breakfast we thoroughly made our way through each of the features of the retreat, from hot dipping pools, the thermal steam cave, another visit to the Dr Fish pool, the meditation and crystal caves, finishing off with a lazy swim in the pool. We even had time to stroll outside the retreat to the Lost World of Tambun, but the loud music and hordes of teenagers forced us to beat a hasty retreat. I can honestly say I don't think I've ever taken so many pictures inside the grounds of a resort. At every turn of the path we discovered yet another dramatic view and it was impossibly to resist trying to capture every single moment. We didn't want our stay to end but inevitably we sadly said goodbye to our beautiful villa and hotsprings experience.
