Located in the closest neighbourhood of the ancient Roman road Aurelia, the Black hotel is only a few kilometres away from the Vatican City and 10 min by car from a golf course.
The hotel enjoys an easy access to the sea and the city.
"Long weekend "
We stayed here only last week.... and we too had done our homework. Yes the hotel is basic and a bit of a distance away from the nearest metro station Cornelia... but there was a shuttle bus , which you needed to book yourself onto the night before to get on as it seats only 8 people....otherwise you can get one of the regular buses from Panorama supermarket. Only criticism of the buses is that it's a free for all to get on, with people pushing and shoving to get on an almost full bus and they run roughly every 20-30 mins.....so if you don't get on you've a bit of a wait! Metro is fine once you're on and literally only 6-7 stops before you're in the centre of Rome. Hotel is basic but we found the staff very friendly , Franco the barman, all the reception staff and Ibrahim in breakfast , who all spoke English (our Italian is rubbish anyway!)and it was perfect for a base, just a shame it's not a bit closer to the metro... but hey ho! The shuttle bus only operates in the morning. Not sure why they don't operate an evening service too' Tea making facilities in the room would have been nice. Clean sheets and towels every day. We enjoyed our stay thanks to everyone at The Black Hotel 👍
"Not for us"
We arrived to what we expected to be a modern stylish hotel. It may have been modern and well cared for once, but it now seems tired and in need of some renewal. Our room, although having usual facilities eg; ensuite, air conditioning, TV, fridge, was not, in my opinion, kept to an acceptable standard of cleanliness. Shower was full of black mould and discoloured sealant. We could hear the water of the other guests taking a shower, running through the pipework. There was a pool but this did not appear available for use when we visited. The bar downstairs did not stock Italian beer...when in Rome' The hotel is situated in a suburban area, a reasonable distance (not walking) from the city and its famous sights, a free shuttle service is offered but for three specific times. We were booked in for 3 nights by a travel agent but left after only one night. Would not recommend.
"Trip to Rome "
Travelled as 3 friends. Hotel was what we had expected for the price we paid; nice hotel and good room located out of the city centre. We had researched and so knew of the location which was no problem for us considering we had paid a lot less than equivilant hotels in the centre of Rome. The staff were not rude to us, they gave us information about the buses and metro etc. and there was always someone at reception if you needed to speak to someone. The breakfast choices included various breads and toppings which you could toast, bacon, scrambled egg, cheese and ham, fruits, cereal and cakes/croissants. There was a variety of coffee and teas, water and orange or pineapple juice to choose from. The pool was not open but again as we had researched we knew this so it was no surprise to us as it seems it was to other guests. The city tax is €6 per person per night and applies to all hotels in Rome with the price dependant on hotel star rating (so 4* is €6). We travelled to the centre and back a few different ways during our trip; a taxi to Vatican City cost us €20, we also got buses (246 or 247) to/from Cornelia metro station (€1.50 each) near the Panorama supermarket a few minutes walk from the hotel. You could book a free transfer at 8:30, 9:30 or 10:30 from the hotel to Cornelia metro at reception. We also walked to/from the Cornelia metro and hotel which took about 25 minutes and although it was along a dual carriageway there was pavement the whole way and we didn't feel unsafe at anytime. The room was all we wanted, somewhere to chill out after a day seeing the sights and store our things. Our room had 3 single beds as requested, a TV, safe, and minifridge which was stocked with a few drinks and snacks but we did not use this as it was cheaper to buy drinks downstairs or at the supermarket. The only thing we found a bit strange was the frosted glass window in the wall between the shower and room which would've perhaps been more suited for couples than a group of friends! Otherwise the beds and towels were changed every day of our stay (including on a Sunday and bank holiday Monday) and everything worked as you would expect. Overall we found the hotel better than we had expected from some of the bad reviews we had read, perhaps not everyone had been aware of the location and how to get to the centre, or are expecting complete luxury despite the reasonable price. We did our research and so knew what to expect but our stay exceeded what we had expected. If you want to step out of a hotel and walk a few minutes to all of the sights then pay more and stay at a hotel in the centre, but if like us you want a reasonably priced trip to Rome and don't mind the travelling between the centre and hotel then we would definitely recommend Black Hotel.
"Not a good stay"
This hotel is very far out and you have to do a lot of traveling to get to the centre. The buses in rome are not very frequent so it was hard to get around. The receptionist are very unfriendly not willing to help. Breakfast was cold and same thing everyday day. The swimming pool was closed so we ddnt get to use it. Rooms are basic but clean. Also they ddnt tell us about the city tax !! Which came up to 36 euros. Dnt recommend this hotel at all !!!
"Worst hotel ever!!"
Do not stay here!!! Staff were very cold and unfriendly. The hotel is very dark and not a 4 star at all. The blinds in the room fell down on me, also the toilet felt like it was gonna fall off the wall. The room just felt very budget.
