"Central location in Firenze"
Centrally located hotel in walking distance to all the main sights Firenze has to offer. Friendly and warm staff - thank you Maurizio for the laughs! Upgraded to a room with a view, spotless with plenty of storage. Breakfast and coffee were excellent. Would definitely return and recommend.
We stayed in this hotel as part of our tour group so we did not have a say. The location was a good spot as we were able to walk to everything we wanted to see in the city, walking back to the hotel late at night in front of the train station, I felt a little uneasy with my two children. We had two rooms in the recently renovated section (so new some rooms didn’t have official numbers on walls yet) . One room was stifling hot, like you couldn’t breath, unsafe hot. At first, they told us they could not move our room, but to check back after we were finished touring. When we returned it took multiple calls and 2 hours for them to come to our room, by this time it was after midnight and my child was sleeping. They then admitted the room was unbareably hot and would move us to another hotel. Mind you, my husband and other son were in a different room asleep and we were part of a tour. They did find a room for us the next day. Also, the breakfast in the basement was unappealing.
We stayed in this hotel from Dec. 23 to 26, 2017. The hotel was literally across the street (Via Luigi Alamanni) from the side entrance of the train station (Firenze Santa Maria Novella). We just crossed the street (around 7 meters wide) and we were at the door of the hotel. Because of its proximity to the train station, we did not have a hard time buying some grocery items (Conad Supermarket inside the station and a Carrefour Express around the corner on Via Santa Caterina da Siena). Mercator Centrale was around 800 meters away where we had nice pizza from Sud - La Pizzeria. It was our favorite pizza place during our vacation in Italy. We initially bought only 1 margherita pizza that we got to like it and we ordered 2 more! We went there on Dec. 23 and we wanted to go back on Dec. 25 but the whole market was closed. The cathedral was around 1.3 km away. We just walked going there and back to the hotel. The toilet and bath was not very spacious though there was a tub. The bidet was located beside the toilet bowl which I liked (versus facing each other). While our room had a safe with digital lock, we did not get to use it because the instruction was in Italian. While I had a Google translator on my iPhone, my phone could not read the text because it was dark inside the cabinet where the safe was located. While our room faced the train station, it was surprisingly quiet inside. Our room also had a ref which we got to use to store our grocery items. While there was WiFi, we did not get to use it because we preferred using our rented mobile WiFi hotspot. The elevator was quite small. It could accommodate only 2 adults at a time. Also we had to climb a short flight of stairs from the main lobby to the lobby where the elevator stopped. That meant we had to use a ramp with some difficulty to bring our big and heavy luggage up to the elevator lobby. I’ll probably consider again in this hotel if I were to visit Florence again.
Stayed four nights. Every night woken by fire engines at 2+am. No aircon during winter so must open the window, as a result noises are amplified. Every single night woke by different sounds and also mosquitoes. Slept horribly, one of the worst places to rest. For the prices we paid during peak season definitely not worth it. Perhaps only when off peak can be considered.
"Not Good At All"
I really can't recommend this place. It's basically a quick stopover for tour groups, particularly Asian. Some people might use it because of the location across from the train station. There's a grand mirror in the lobby to make it appear that the hotel is larger than it is. And security can get abusive. I was questioned about my identity when I returned after an early morning walk, when I was sitting in the first level lounge area writing in my journal, and when I was waiting for the breakfast room to open in the early morning. I know this is Italy where authority is paramount. But I'm not Italian and resent being treated like I was. Now to the room. I needed two different repairs to the bath area. One to the toilert, the other to the sink. I don't know why they assigned me this room in the first place. My room was compact and the bed was pushed up against the window, so the only way I could open the window was to move the bed away. And, then, when I did look out the window, the view was of the courtyard of the inter-city bus depot. Also, the thermostat was uncontrollable. It just blasted hot air at whatever level it was set at. I couldn't change it. So I would never come back here. No way!
