"What a lovely stay"
The hotel is situated in Green Point which is surrounded by small eateries but located on a busy road. You can walk to the Waterfront or take a bus/taxi to most places. We hired a car and had free parking so it suited us well. The suite we had was an apartment and we could do all our washing, eating etc. It came with coffee tea making facilities but I would definitely recommend the coffee cafes next to the Hotel. The suite was very modern and high standard. The hotel itself is beautifully decorated. The rood top area was a bit impersonal as the swimming area is adjoined to the bar and this was quite the spot for afternoon crowds from the locals who reside in Cape Town. The pool could definitely use a bit of cleaning. However I do appreciate the fact that Cape Town is in a severe drought and this could have been a reason to save water. The hotel does have signage everywhere for guests to please use water sparingly. The breakfast cafe, Grace was indeed the worst little spot with very expensive food for tasteless food. I did not eat my food as it was too terrible for words however they did refund us this. I would seriously revamp the menu and presentation design for a 5 star hotel. We ended up eating and far better breakfast spots for half the price. Overall besides the breakfast giving the hotel a bad name, it is was overall a great stay.
"Gorgeous hotel & fabulous service!"
We were fortunate to be booked by our travel agent at the Cape Royale for the four nights we spent in Cape Town. We arrived for our first night after a long day of travel and were greeted and checked-in by Robyn. She and the rest of the staff were so helpful and friendly during our entire stay! We were upgraded to a beautiful suite that was more like an apartment – we were truly spoiled! The rooms were beautifully appointed and spacious, beds ultra-comfortable and modern and fantastic bathroom suites. The lobby of the hotel is beautiful and inviting. The hotel is located near the V&A waterfront and an easy cab ride to anywhere else in the city. The front desk staff is very attentive and worked their magic in getting us tickets for the Robben Island tour when it was showing as sold out the day we wanted to go. There are plenty of restaurants and shops in walking distance and the waterfront is short cab ride (walkable from the hotel, too). Breakfast was included with our stay and we enjoyed friendly service from Grace each morning! Definitely would stay at the Cape Royale again! Highly recommend for anyone visiting Cape Town!
"Great hotel for extended stay"
I've never stayed at a hotel like this and it was a very nice surprise, even though I'd read other positive reviews on Trip Advisor. We had a large 2 bedroom/2 bath suite with full kitchen that was the size of an apartment. I was vacationing with a friend and it was so nice to have our own space. There was plenty of closet space and counter space in the bathroom to completely unpack and spread out. While the common spaces are more traditional in style, the rooms are modern and high quality. The hotel staff and concierge were very efficient, accommodating and helpful. The cafe offered a variety of handsome breakfasts and the cafe staff was so friendly. As far as location, it is walkable to the Waterfront but the hotel is on a main road with quite a bit of traffic and we chose to take cabs for about $5. The hotel offers personal Mercedes car service for a little bit more, which they will bill to your room. We visited the rooftop bar but just to take a look. The staff assisted with calling and confirming our tours, which was greatly appreciated. All in all, a very nice hotel. I used my Delta points to pay for the room & breakfast, so I can't speak to the pricing. Just one heads up: If you inquire with the concierge about a visit to a Diamond center, the concierge will arrange your cab & fare. We simply inquired, but didn't realize what was happening and our original destination plans to the Museum were diverted - the cab driver was instructed to take us to the Diamond center. With the change in destination, he had to charge us - no big deal. I got a follow up call the next day to confirm if we purchased anything, and I got the feeling that the concierge gets a commission.
We stayed here a few weeks ago and the suite was lovely large sitting/dining/kitchen area, lovely big bathroom with wardrobes and a decent size bedroom. However the hotel itself is rather impersonal, the staff were ok but not overly helpful. The pool on small and dirty and the bar are in the roof is treated separately so you could not charge to your room. They show a number of restaurants on their site but, other than the one small cafe, the restaurants are not associated with the hotel so once again you could not charge to your room. On arrival there was no drinking water in our room, the fridge was empty. Wifi was sporadic and there was only one point that you could charge your phone on and to do that you had to remove the internet server connection. One other point that was annoying, was the bathroom had numerous mirrors in it along with the dressing facilities and a hairdryer was provided but there was no electric point to allow you to use the mirrors, nor was there mirrors anywhere else that you could have used along with the hairdryer. Overall disappointed in the 'luxury' hotel. Will not revisit.
Ample space for 4 paxs. Clean and modern. Great view & walking distance to V&A. Restaurants and supermarket within reach. Safe location. A must when you stay here - breakfast at Giovanni's! (which is walking distance from the hotel)
