"Carcosa Seri Negara is closed, pending renovation works"
Please note that this quaint hotel -Carcosa Seri Negara - has been closed since last year, for renovation and major refurbishments.... It is a wonder that the management hotel has not updated Tripadvisor about this and bookings are still being sold..... amazing.... I think Tripadvisor should be more aware of this, too!
"Relaxed Elegant Hideaway"
This is secluded (but very affordable!) luxury at its very best. Located in the middle of the city, but on the top of a small hill, surrounded by a park. You will need a cab or limo to get there, as it's on a semi-private road, but the cab is economical. (So as it happened, was the limo company, they were stunning-reviewed separately!!) The whole staff of Carcosa were waiting to greet us, and (not being sure) had prepared a (Complimentary) afternoon tea for us... just in case we needed it. We enjoyed a huge suite, two balconies, and great room amenities.Food was stunning: along the lines of that offered by a good lodge or premium ship: slightly limited in choice, but selected and cooked to perfection. Service throughout was friendly and impeccable. If we returned late, the manager was always waiting to greet us, and the chef had always prepared food ... just in case! During weekends there is the opportunity to meet local families, who come for High Tea or a meal, bringing children who play on the lawns. Perfect, and economical for what is available.
"Old friends with Momories"
Each visit to this place is like walking down the memory lane. 15years ago my first visit and my last visit on Dec 26 before they finally end their service till last day of 2015. Still remember my first visit, afternoon tea was RM55 and 15 years later at RM88. They served the best scones in town! Hope the government will bring them back in business.
I believe the Carcosa is about to finally close after waiting for refurbishment for a number of years. What a shame as I wonder when it will re-open and how it will look. If its not too late its worth trying to stay at this historic property. Set in a beautiful park area it can be a little difficult for local taxis to find (the only drawback) the former official guesthouse has big rooms and verandahs, easy to relax and enjoy your free time. Of course for a place that is probably due a facelift the odd thing needs a refresh, there is no pool, but everything works and is more than sufficient. It is also refreshing to see staff that are not only the usual high standard but also love the place and really enjoy working there in a small team, it comes through in their service. This was our second visit and I really hope to stay again in the future.
