"Two star hotel used by tour companies."
Cardinal Hotel Saint Peter, is not a four star hotel, it is a two star hotel with overpriced rooms and food. Rooms seem to be large, cleanness is not near to a passing grade. The free Wi-Fi does not work in the rooms, and if you go to the lobby still your speed is very slow. The room amenities are not existent, for example a simple coffee maker, not available, if you want a hot tea in the middle of the night, you pay for it. Cups to be used when cleaning you teeth, not available. Bottle opener not available. We stayed for over eight days, the room was never vacuumed or cleaned, body towels were not replaced and I had to call after the end of our day to get towels, as expected from a two star hotel. We were a large group from California, about 150 persons, the hotel was not able to properly handle breakfast, one time they removed the boiled eggs from the trays and after that the eggs were not available any more, what a shame! The automatic machines to serve the hot beverages barely worked. This hotel was overwhelmed with the amount of persons they have to handle when time for breakfast and dinner time was due. The quality of the food very low and pricey, you better find restaurants and coffee shops around it. Like the Il Pappagallo that opens 24 hours. This is a low budget hotel that we were push into by our tour company, which I am very disappointed with and a complaint is coming for them as well. If you look at the rank of this hotel it does not make it in to the first 100 of Rome. In conclusion this hotel is booked for the groups of tour companies so they make a bigger profit, they will try to convince you that is a four start hotel when is not. I have staying in Europe several times and this hotel is only a two star hotel.
"Nice hotel, well priced"
I was actually going to stay in another hotel in Rome close to the Gemelli hospital where i was doing an internship, but as soon as I saw the overpriced hotel I fled late in the afternoon. Thankfully the very helpful staff at the Cardinal hotel immediately found me a room with half the price I would have been paying in the other hotel! The staff was always very helpful, the rooms clean and spacious and the location was also not bad (could easily get by bus to the centre of Rome). I also found the food mediocre (it does need improvement) as also the dining area too. Also the WiFi was not the best in the rooms. Despite this I was so happy to stay there for the week I was in Rome. Thank you!
"Large Modern Rooms"
I stayed here only for one night but this is a large property with very spacious rooms. It includes all amenities. Despite all the semblance of modernity, my key card didn't work and I had to walk back from corner room on 2nd floor back to reception via longish lobby. Its irritating at 12 midnight to have to do this. All it was is that the receptionist had not activated it.
"A fine place for sightseers"
My wife and I booked a trip through a tour agency, and this was our hotel for our three nights in Rome. I'd read a lot of negative reviews before we came, but the hotel was nice. We weren't there much since we were sightseeing, and it had everything we needed. There were convenient bus stops, and the Metro was only about a 15-20 minute walk. We'd read that the walk to the Metro was very steep, but we didn't find it to be bad at all. Maybe that's because we'd just come from the Amalfi Coast, which was much steeper. I wouldn't have wanted to walk to the city center though. Our last night we wanted to eat somewhere nice close to the hotel, and there were several options within walking distance. I'd read a lot of criticism of the hotel breakfast too, but I don't expect much from a hotel breakfast, and it was fine. I was in Rome, so I wasn't planning on filling up at a hotel breakfast! Since we had a rental car, it was nice to have a place a little bit outside of the city center where we could easily keep our car parked. If we returned to Rome, I might look for a place closer to the center, but if we wanted to stay outside again, we would be fine to stay here again.
"Nice hotel but mediocre meals"
I stayed here for a week as part of a Singles Holiday in September. My 3rd floor room was a very spacious double, with a shared balcony & a good view of St.Peter's and was cleaned daily. Unfortunately some of the fixtures and fittings were not up to standard - the towel rail in the bathroom was not fixed properly and the toilet seat had a tendency to move out of position when sat upon. Food was not particularly inspiring - breakfast was the usual cold meats & cheeses with a choice of scrambled eggs, bacon & sausage. There was also fruit and toast available, with jams and cake. Evening meals were mediocre - a first course of pasta, followed by a main course and then dessert. Main courses were variable in quality, ranging from poor to good, but desserts were quite acceptable. Fortunately, we were taken to city restaurants for evening meals on three occasions and these were of really good quality (see restaurant reviews). The hotel was situated in a pleasant setting in a quiet part of Rome, some 15 minutes by bus from the city centre, and the hotel pool looked appealing. Altogether, a fairly reasonable hotel but not, in my view, worth a 4-star rating.
