"Excellent location, very comfortable, not quite 5 rating"
Great base for a long weekend break in June. Excellent location, close walking distance of main sites of Girona, on fairly quiet pedestrianised street. Hotel foyer and reception gives a great impression of a well run hotel. Very clean, tidy, throughout. Spacious room, well designed, comfortable bed, good lighting, free Wi-Fi worked well, plenty of storage room. Air con very effective, easy to use, important as temperatures hitting high 30s. TV seemed basic, remote control didn't work, no English language channels (although friend in 3rd floor room did have). Quality kettle, drink supplies topped up regularly. Well stocked mini fridge. Free and easy to use safe. Room cleaning and service excellent. Everything in bathroom worked well. Large shower, easy to operate, powerful. Shower base slippery if not standing in textured middle section. Good towels, changed regularly, wide range of accessories and toiletries provided free. Washbasin plug hidden under toiletries but should be there if you look. Electrical socket very close to and level with washbasin - wouldn't happen with UK regulations. Large spa pool in basement, enjoyed using it twice. Free bathrobes and slippers provided in room wardrobe. Large towels and showers provided near spa pool (showers open rather than screened off). One jet very powerful! I expected a small gym but only saw a room with a few static bikes for 'spinning'. Breakfast OK but not up to high standard of the hotel in my opinion. Dining room clean and bright but lacking space for food to be laid out. Excellent freshly squeezed orange juice. A couple of cereal options, small range of yoghurts, breads, ham, cheese, nuts. All OK but could be wider choice and better quality. Bacon and scrambled egg too but poor quality and not kept heated. Small 2 slice toaster, inadequate for busy dining room. Very slow coffee machine. Overall not bad but plenty of scope for improvement. Good mid-price restaurants very nearby. We tried El Balco, Probocador and Casa Marieta. Food, service and value fine in each one. Didn't have dinner in hotel restaurant (Blanc) but saw it gets mostly decent ratings All hotel staff friendly, helpful, do a good job. I'd have given hotel top rating if dining room and breakfast better. If visiting Girona again would definitely return. Would also consider for base if visiting Barcelona, only 40 minutes away by fast train.
"Well placed for both old and 'new' town sightseeing"
Very well placed for sightseeing in both the old and 'new' towns - 100m to the Eiffel bridge over the river straight into the old town and only 250m to the Placa Indepencia, which has a real buzz to it. The pool facility is good but indoor. Our room was an attic room on the 5th floor, so no view except for the sky !
We visited the hotel for the flower festival and the location is central and only a few minutes walk over the bridge to all the displays. The hotel is modern, very clean with comfortable beds and the staff are very helpful. We did not eat at the hotel as there are some very good restaurants within a few minutes walk. It was nice to sit outside for breakfast so we ate in the square around the corner where a coffee and ham and cheese roll cost €3.50. We will be back next year.
