"Glitzy and glamorous"
Our room was very comfortable.on second floor. Not as nice a view as some of the other reviewers but everything else was so fantastic, the missing view didn't really really come into play. There was an American style plug in the room which added a great convenience. There was beautiful artwork on display on each floor. Very interesting furnishings everywhere. We had sinner in the temple bar and I would highly recommend the Caesar salad. We stayed only one night but next time we come to the city I would definitely stay here for a week and use this as the base from which to explore the city and environs. It is conveniently close to the airport also.
This hotel was our very first experience in Ireland and it did not disappoint! The hotel itself is very pretty. And set just outside of Dublin in a very quiet area. The front desk was excellent and even though we arrived much earlier that expected, we were able to promptly check in which was fantastic for weary travelers. Our room was nice and clean, walls are a bit thin but when staying in a hotel that is normal. The breakfast was great! Definitely a great way to start the day. We almost always took the city bus into downtown Dublin while we were visiting. A quick walk to the bus stop saved us money and helped us get to know Dublin better! I would stay here again and recommend it if you don't mind not being right downtown.
"Made our night amazing"
We were here for our wedding night and we were delighted with our choice. From the minute we walked in the team were friendly and welcoming, the night manager Muqtadir was particularly lovely. We were greeted with a handwritten congratulation card in our room and a selection of chocolates. And within minutes of our arrival we were also given champagne! We felt like we were still celebrating our day even though the party had finished.
We really liked the Clontarf Castle, but if you want a more amazing "castle" experience, this isn't it. Stay at Dromoland! That being said, it is super close to the Dublin airport, which we needed and wanted for our last night in Ireland. The food is great and the service was really good. It definitely has a more "modern" feel to it, and the room simply felt like a hotel room. It was also a bit small for a family of four compared to other places we stayed in Ireland. It's a nice location in Dublin though, but not necessarily by all of the shopping, etc. It's a bit off the beaten path. If want to be by Grafton St., then stay at the Shelbourne! AMAZING! They also don't have a pool, which of course is always a disappointment for our kids, but by this point in our trip, it was not a big deal! It was perfect for the purpose we needed it for, but I wouldn't have stayed here for more than one night, when there are truly, so many amazing places to stay in Ireland and Dublin itself!
"Our stay in a castle hotel in a hurricane!"
I picked Clontarf from the internet, wanting a hotel reasonably close to Dublin airport, which it is; and a castle, which my wife wanted to stay at. Thus , a "two-fer." Excellent value for the money; clean and comfortable King bed; a "room with a view" of the city; excellent lounge meal for lunch and "fancy dining" for dinner. Stay there!
