"Hit and miss -ideal for a short stay but the problems soon grate on you when it's a longer stay"
Stayed with several colleagues for 3 weeks (though we had intended staying longer but changed hotels as we couldn't stick it any longer). First week was before Christmas. Rooms were fine - warm, clean, large and comfy beds. Bathroom OK but shower curtain sticks to you and impossible to stop water from flooding the bathroom floor - we all had the same problem in all of our rooms. Flush was almost useless in first room (405) and not much better in second room (432). Tile grout and sealant was mouldy in places in all the rooms I stayed in. Breakfast was great and the staff at breakfast were friendly and efficient. The evening menu was great for the first a few days. Service was hit and miss - some staff made us order food at the bar, some came to the table to take our order. We'd order food one night and it would be great, and then the next night order the same thing and it was poor and completely different! steaks were generally good. A number of times our side orders or drink would be forgotten - the staff seemed extremely disorganised and told us inconsistent things. The menu was changed during the quiet period just before Christmas and week after new year and was very limited, no veg, salads etc. During our first week back in the new year we expressed our concerns about the menu as we intended staying for a long period of time. The second week back in the new year an effort had been made to change the menu and was really was appreciated, more veg and salads were available and they were delicious! A table had also been reserved for us and the staff made an effort to be more efficient. My room the third week was on the ground floor (217) was noisy and absolutely freezing for the whole week even though the radiator was on full blast. Not sure if it was next to a boiler room or next door just had a very noisy shower/bath or something!Bath had ingrained filth and tile grout and sealent mouldy in areas. Whilst looking for a plug socket I found a dirty sock, plastic spoon and a vapourisor gas canister which didn't belong to me! I left them out with a note for the cleaning staff. The following day I found a different dirty sock ont eh floor beside the sofa along with a beer bottle top - also not belonging to me!!! YUK!!! During our stay in was important for us too be up and out very early. I asked for a wake up call numerous times and only once got it - we did mention it to the staff the first time but and explained the importance but still didn't manage to organise them. This mean't sleepless nights worrying about not waking up - especially when I'd left my phone at work and had no alarm. One lady said she's discuss it with the night manager and ensure I got the call, but I still didn't get it! We had a £20 credit for dinner. Several times we went over this limit and paid the extra at the bar. Then when we checked out it hadn't been taken off our bill and we had to pay again!!! Gym was lovely and staff in there were friendly. However, the whole time we stayed there were "temporary" changing rooms for the pool. This meant changing in a designated bedroom into your swimsuit, walking down the corridor and through the gym in a towel to get to the pool, and same again in reverse after your swim; and nowhere to leave any valuables. Plus the steam room and sauna were out of order. The last straw was the breakfast room being absolutley freezing as the night staff hadn't put the heating on - it was a large room and was truly like an ice hotel - we needed coats on just to eat breakfast!. We had had a very friendly and efficient lady and gentleman serving us most of the time, then on the last day there was a different woman - she was rather abrupt and not so friendly! Told us we had to move from where we'd sat for 3 weeks!! We were going to stay at least another week and a half but have decided to change hotels due to our experience. Could be a super hotel but I'm afraid the majority of the staff seemed disorganised and unfriendly - this is a shame for the ones that do make an effort. Reception staff were efficient and friendly, most of the bar staff were either unfriendly or incompetent. We were compensated with a free drink on one occasion due to things not being right, but all these things added up and it's a not acceptable when you're working away from home for a long time and staying somewhere where everything seems like hard work and does not run smoothly. Hotel needs updating and a staff shake-up.
"Three night stay. Average ! "
Stayed at this hotel for work purposes. On the plus side is the location, it’s within very easy reach of some excellent shopping and is a perfect stop over for people using Cardiff Wales Airport. The rooms within this hotel can only be described as being very dated. Although the room was clean and bed was comfortable the furniture was dark wood and very old looking. Due to it being a quiet period we were told that the restaurant was closed. Therefore we were forced to eat from the very limited bar menu. Avoid the pasta dishes ! Overcooked pasta, a vile mushroom sauce and a chicken breast that had been nuked beyond all recognition. The steak was the best dish I had. Breakfast was good and lady serving it was lovely. Staff— nothing special to be honest, one member of bar staff seemed that he couldn’t be bothered to provide any sort of service. Josh on the other hand was great. Spa— I understand the need for improvement but the changing facilities were very strange. A tent at the side of the pool is not ideal! Pool was cold too. All in all certainly not worthy of its 4 star rating. Would barely scrape a 3 star in my view. Wouldn’t stay again in a hurry.
"Great pool and facilities"
Booked lessons for the children to learn to swim. I am now joined with full membership. Really impressive facilities. Gym just a nice size. Friendly staff in bar and restaurant. Easy to get to. Plenty of parking.
Stayed here while attending concert in Cardiff. A little far out of the city but taxi reasonable. Great food and service made this a great night Breakfast was included in price and was excellent using local products. Would definitely return.
"New Year's bash"
We came to meet our northern family and to enjoy a Cardiff New Year celebration. The hotel party was at £85 pounds a little to expensive so we went into the city centre too enjoy the fun fair and the fireworks. Just brilliant!
