"Good conference hotel near the center of the city"
We had a conference with over 100 participants who had to join presentations together or be divided in different smaller groups. The hotel is very well equipped for this. We enjoyed good rooms and and excellent breakfast.
Far out from city centre. Fridge not working. View of a graffitied car park when a lot of rooms available. Food average. Aircon/ heating not working properly. Staff nice though. Rooms worse than photos
My first visit to Russia so booked this hotel via a corporate travel agency. I have to say I was very impressed, from check-in to check-out all the staff were extremely helpful including the team on Reception, those at breakfast and finally the staff in the German themed bar/restaurant. One particular highlight was recommending an easy to use iPhone app called Taxovichkof.com which allows English speaking visitors to order a taxi quickly and easily ensuring a fair price for the trip. Stayed in a deluxe room, very spacious with free WIFi, ideal for the business traveller. Only downside was the fact that the restaurant specialising in Russian themed dishes closed at 7pm, presumably due to the Hotel being quiet. The free shuttle to the main visitor attractions is an added bonus.
"The Good, bad, ugly"
The Good: The woman who checked me into my room was really lovely with a nice smile and very friendly attitude. The Bad: There seems to be a man at the door dressed as a Courtyard Marriott employee but he doesn’t really do anything, not even open the door for you. I am strong and usually don’t need help with my baggage but I think should be a common practice for someone on the hotel staff to at least ask to help you with your luggage and open the door with your hands full of luggage. I was literally kicking to open the door and the doorman watched. The Ugly: There was an Asian woman that was rude and nasty at the front desk when I asked if they had an outlet adapter. She said, “No, the hotel doesn’t provide those to guests”. I said well I use a CPAP (breathing machine) and my adapter is not working. Then she said “we do not have anymore to give out”. Then she reluctantly looked for one and then didn’t tell me that she couldn’t find one. The Good: The woman that was a Marriott trainee last night was much more friendly and should take the Asian woman’s job because she was a lot more pleasant and helpful. The trainee notified me that they didn’t have any more adapters and she had also searched for one. The trainee offered to have a taxi take me to a store to buy one after not finding one. Marriott should expect more from all their employees and do much better than this experience for its guests! Stay at your own risk, Nathan from Philadelphia, PA
"I was really disappointed!"
I arrived to this hotel as an exhibitor at one of the business conferences. So, actually I did not have much choice, but I was sure that Marriott would be fine as usual - just because of its reputation. As exhibitor, I had a lot of heavy luggage and my company ordered a car with big luggage space. They sent BMW 7, there was no space for the suitcases and we had to pack the seats, and the driver was really out of mood and was really impolite, almost rude. When we arrived, I was surprised that no one came to meet us, the driver packed the luggage out and went away. When I went to the reception, the receptionist said that there was no "boy" in the hotel, so I was supposed to manage the whole thing alone. They have trays although, but you have to pull it upstairs, and it is a hard task for a woman. When I was talking to the reception, one more exhibitor came, with the same problem, so we actually pressed the reception and they found a guy, who helped us saying it was not his task. After all, the receptionist, who had not been helpful at all, declared that the boy service was not free and had to be ordered beforehand. It was a shock - for Marriott!!! And even if it was so, why had not they warned me''' Should I also have asked for hot water or for clean bedding''' The location of the hotel is very bad - it is far from the centre, appr. 4 km, and the surroundings are rather decrepit, with no restaurants or normal supermarkets, except for wine shops... It was rather unpleasant to walk there... But the rooms were not bad, and the personnel of the restaurant was extremely kind and polite, when I visited it at breakfast. The breakfast itself was a bit poor - again, speaking of Marriott, when you expect a high level of all services. I would not chose it again!!!
