"Family Weekend Away"
I stayed here with my family for a long weekend. We enjoyed the resort feel and and the pool is nice, although it has been a cool June and it would have been nice for the pool to be heated. The hotel bar was great, they have some nice options above and beyond the standard bar menu, my husband and I both enjoyed the poke. On the flip side I do not recomend the breakfast buffet, it had a very limited selection and felt the quality was not great. The rooms are clean and roomy and I loved the little sleep aromatherapy package they provided . We will stay here again next time we are in town.
"Trouble in San Diego"
We were here a couple weeks back for a week. My spouse had a conference so my 6 year old and I tagged along. The trip started off VERY rocky because we were given a semi-renovated room in the back of the complex. Right off the bat the light switch in the bathroom was a motion sensor that was flakey and shut off during my shower and didn't really work right. Also we noticed the air conditioner was on 64 but it felt like it was damp and 80 in the room. There were big cracks and/or water stains on the ceiling and the sliding door to the patio was literally falling apart. The handle almost fell off and there was some kind of a goofy metal door stop with tape on it that I think was supposed to keep the door locked because the handle was falling off. We called maintenance about the air and the light in the bathroom. He came and initially explained the concept of a motion light to us and we kept telling him it didn't work right but he didn't seem to believe us. He was about to leave and we said hey what about the air and he said oh I didn't know about that issue so let me get my tools. He came back shortly (keep in mind this is at 8pm and my son is asleep in bed) and proceeded to drain bucket after bucket of condensation of the air conditioner in the ceiling. As he was dumping it in the toilet he figured out that 'hey, the bathroom light doesn't work!'. He spent 2 hours in our room fixing the switch and continuing to drain the air conditioner which only moderately worked after he left. We called the next day and said the air is still not working and now the chain on the toilet broke and by the way the signal for TV is weak and we can't watch it. They didn't send anybody for a few hours so we were done and demanded another room. The person said okay someone will bring you keys and help you get to your new room. So I pack everything up with my 6 year old and the guy shows up with the keys and no luggage buggy to help me move all our stuff. He said 'oh, did you want help with that''. Ugh, I didn't want to wait for him to get the luggage buggy so I called my spouse out of her conference at the hotel and said I need help moving to the new room. So she came and helped me pack up the car to drive to the other side of the resort where our new room was. I had asked the front desk if the air worked in this new room and they said "I think it works pretty well"...sigh. I send my spouse up to the room to check it before we move in and guess what -- the air won't turn on. We go to the front desk to complain and it's just the same guy who had delivered the keys to me earlier. He did tell maintenance to look at it and they were able to fix it by the time we came back from dinner but so frustrating. That was a renovated room and we were happy with it the rest of our stay. Overall the grounds of the hotel are okay but the hay day for this place was a long time ago and it seems they are working slowly to bring it back. I wouldn't recommend or stay here again.
"Lovely Hotel and Surrounding Area"
Very Friendly and helpful staff. Steve was a great shuttle driver and gave a good recommendation for Seafood at Kings Fish House. We loved the ability to text messages to the front desk for anything that needed to be fixed - i.e. more towels needed in the pool area. They were very responsive.
"We LOVE this place... are looking for an excuse to come back!"
We came for a 3 day conference and stayed an extra 3 nights. Loved the Island themed courtyards and the pool. You would never know you were right by a major highway. We had not rented a car and I was a little worried when I saw that this was a little way out form the center of town and not close to a transit station but there was no need to worry because the hotel shuttle service is awesome! When we wanted to go somewhere, we asked the shuttle staff who have a desk by the front door how to get there. They would drive us to the transit station and we could go anywhere we wanted to go. They have service directly to Balboa park twice a day. When we were ready to back to the hotel, we just texted the front desk and they would come pick us up. Everyone in our group commented on how good the catering for the meals was. The food was very good. But the best part of the hotel is the staff. Everyone that we encountered was very friendly and helpful. GREAT STAFF!
"Four day international workshop for 75 attendees"
We just completed a 4-day workshop event for 75 employees from around the world. We are very happy we selected the Crowne Plaza San Diego. The new ownership has already made many improvements and a big renovation is coming soon. The common areas are very attractive and functional. Meeting rooms are perfect and plentiful. Restaurant and lounge have good food and great service. Parking is ample and easy in/out. Free shuttle service to local attractions. The staff and service are outstanding--truly above and beyond the usual ho-hum of event staff. We want to thank Brian Potter/Gen Mgr, Eduardo Duque/Sales, Steve Hanger/Events, Efrain Fores/Banquets, Pisey Oum/Rooming, Stephen Destefano/Food, Alex Pitman/Front Office, and Greg/AV -- they and their teams really provided what we needed, when we needed it, cheerfully and efficiently. We were very demanding and had lots of changes--they did it all and with a smile! We did not experience negatives during our four days--we saw an effort to raise the standards of performance and total dedication to customer happiness. We would certainly come back for future events and will direct hotel guests to this "hidden gem".
