We have just spent three nights at this hotel as a complimentary stay from Cunard after sailing from Southampton Uk to NYC on the QM2. To be quite honest we would have rather flew straight home. We found most of the staff ignorant, miserable and very unhelpful. The room was dark with one ceiling light just inside the doorway and a small bedside lamp. Apparently we were given a disabled room with a wet room which flooded each time we showered and the wardrobe had low hangers which meant our clothes doubled up on the floor of the wardrobe. Most of our clothes stayed in the suitcases. All in all this was a total let down after leaving the ship and really put a damper on the whole holiday. Avoid!!!
This Doubletree Hotel is a decent hotel in a good location in mid town NYC. The rooms feel old and outdated and could use a facelift. Overall, I would say this hotel is average for NYC. The standard amenities you would expect to find at a Doubletree can be found here.
"If you have to, i guess."
Location is seems to be at a good spot. Small room, no extras for price. No coffee maker or refrigerator. Only reason i stayed was because the wedding party was also staying there. First hilton i stay at and wouldn't stay at this property again.
"Best price vs location hotel in the city"
Its possibly the best priced hotel in the area. The rooms are comfortable and clean, they do have a few things to improve, like no fridge, no bottled water, or some old bathroom furniture (In my case the door). But the staff is really nice and the place has a great location. Its right beside the 6 train, and 8 blocks from Grand Central. It's just far enough from times square that you wont suffocate from tourists traffic but can walk there in less than 10 min.
This Doubletree would not be my first choice in selecting a hotel in NYC. When we arrived, we were greeted coldly. However, the hotel clerk did let us check in early. With only 1 or 2 exceptions, the rest of the staff seemed annoyed to answer our questions (which required very brief answers). We didn't certainly feel welcome but we were only staying for 1 night. I suppose due to the prime location, the hotel will never have any issues attracting guests. Our room was decently sized, especially considering the location. The breakfast buffet also offered a well rounded selection of foods and beverages.
