Very disappointed with the Double Tree: 1) hotel lobby was under construction so check in was in a side hall, inconvenient, 2) when booked not told of $14 per day parking, parking spaces really, really narrow so it made parking really tight, 3) queen beds size of double beds, 4) left at 6:30am returned 3:30pm and room was not cleaned, had to have it cleaned at 5pm, 5) air conditioning fan really, really loud, 6) no mini refrigerator
"Father's Day 2017"
I won't stay anywhere else when in the San Diego area. The staff makes all the difference. The fine quality of the hotel is a bonus. I've stayed here several days a week over 8 months for business. There was never a question of where I was going to stay when I decided to take my children to the area for a Father's Day get away
Even though they were having their Lobby remodeled the stay was very good and the staff was excellent. The room was very clean with all the services you would want and the food was good and the pool was very nice. Excellent place to stay as it was close to areas we needed to go. We had relatives close to the area so our commute was very easy and the trip back to the airport was fast with very little traffic.
"Hallways smell like marijuana"
There must be a lot of stoners that go to this hotel because the second floor hallway reeked of marijuana. There is no privacy between suites. While I was trying to sleep, I had to listen to the television in the adjacent suite while the occupant was snoring like a bear. I can't complain too much because I did not pay for the trip, but I suggest to anyone who is paying for his trip to consider staying somewhere else.
Would have rated the property four "stars" as it has plenty of plusses -- it's conveniently located off the 5 and just a short drive to a Whole Foods and the polo and fair grounds; the rooms are modern and clean and fairly well-appointed with large TV, small coffee maker, huge closet, plenty of outlets (no USB ports, however), decent free wi-fi, and an ample amount of towels in a good-sized bathroom; the gym is clean and well-equipped; the pool is large and inviting; and there is a welcomingly visible and friendly security presence on-site. But charging $14 a day for uncovered parking in a shared lot well outside the city -- especially in the midst of an inconvenient remodel that forces guests to check-in in a narrow office at the side of the building in a cramped lot -- is unacceptable. Also worth noting: no mini-fridge, and the beds are extra-firm.
