"Good stay. We love it!!!"
We enjoyed their pool area. Lots of activity for the kids. We were supposed to stay here last Dec 2016, but due to bad weather we decided to move the stay on Jan 2017. Check in time was quick. we will definitely come back here.
"Best crowd management for a holiday breakfast buffet"
We stayed over the New Year holidays and this place was packed! The hotel is a little oasis in the middle of a busy business and shopping district, so those looking to shop, dine, or catch a movie can just go over to the Shangri-La Plaza mall next door, or venture out a little farther for other malls. This time we stayed at the Horizon Club rooms at the Garden Wing, which is quieter than the Tower Wing. It's also the wing where the brand's famed Chi spa is located. The Garden Wing rooms though have a more understated neutral palette and traditional baths compared to the fresh floral brocades, well-lit rooms, and modern shower stalls that we loved in the Tower Wing. It seemed a good option for a somewhat quiet holiday staycation in the middle of the city-- but a lot of other people had the same idea! In our experience, breakfast can be a madhouse at hotels packed over the holidays, but EDSA Shangri-La was the best-prepared for the onslaught. They opened up the ballrooms for buffet breakfast, with cheery holiday table settings and live music that helped the crowd feel like we were at a holiday party, rather than losers in the race to snag a table at Heat (the buffet restaurant). The buffet selection was also generous and did not make us feel like we were missing out on the Heat buffet experience. Kudos to the banquet team for handling a packed house with organization, graciousness, and good cheer-- and lots of good food! The Horizon Club also served good breakfast, afternoon tea, and cocktail hour selections for the times we did not want to go far to eat. Make sure to try their excellent cookies, which are hard to stop eating once you've started. One quibble: we've stayed in various places over holidays, and it would have been lovely if the Horizon Club came up with something special for New Year's eve. Even sparkling cider would have been a festive touch to mark the special night, instead of the usual coffee, tea, juice, and sodas. Maybe the upstairs staff should have taken a page from the banquet team that handled the holiday breakfasts downstairs, and who probably handled the big New Year's eve countdown bash we chose to skip. Overall, it was yet another lovely stay. Once more, with its service and attention to detail, EDSA Shangri-La showed us why it is our favorite hotel this part of town... and quite possibly in this metropolis, so far.
Although about 30 mins ( depending on traffic) away from the Airport and is in the Edsa business disctrict, the hotel is tucked away in a quiet neighborhood. Attached to the Hotel or a short 3 mins walk away is the Shang Mall where you can shop, dine and get all amenities either up scale or at reasonable prices. The Hotel itself caters for business travelers and for families on a vacation. The buffet spread is elaborate and caters for all tastes. Suggest you stay at the renovated tower wing
"Good except for the Breakfast Buffet experience"
PRO: - quick checkin, the front office lady who assisted us was polite, gave us an option to upgrade for an additional fee and which allowed us early check in at 11am and late check out the ff day. I appreciated the option given to us without being pushy or too sales-sy. - the room we were given was clean, comfortable - check out was quick & painless as well. CONS: - compared to their Fort branch the toiletries didnt seem as "luxurious" and was a bit lacking, they only gave 1 set of bath essentials (bathe gel, shampoo, conditioner & soap), i usually see 1 set by the tub & another set by the shower. - the breakfast buffet was to rushed! My goodness I felt like I was dining at a fast food joint and not at a 5 star hotel. The waiters/bus boys kept asking if they could buss out my plate - the moment they see you not eating (for example I was talking to my toddler or was trying to read the newspaper) they would immediately ask if they could get the plate. The staff were polite when they did it BUT after 4x of experiencing it I wanted to just leave because I felt that all they wanted was for me to finish, not a very good customer experience. Add it to the general set up of the area, it felt like I was eating at a canteen with the way tables were crammed and spaced together. This needs to be improved.
"Great Shangri-la in Metro Manila"
I have not stayed in this property for over a decade. Returning here was a great pleasure. We were "upgraded" to a Tower Wing room. The room is new and quite comfortable. The breakfast at Heat was also excellent and the wide selection was very nice. The low point was the food at our function at the Isla Ballroom. Would it be perhaps due to the organizer's budget' I did not expect a top caliber 5-star resort to use Dory as its fish. About the breakfast, this property edges out Makati Shangri-la. The selection, taste, and especially the service are miles ahead in this property. The Chi spa is also nice, but they should have stopped asking me twice if I wanted a body massage when I had already chosen and decided to have a foot massage. Perhaps they should consider putting some foot massage chairs since the spa is huge.
