"A really good holiday - shame about the moaners!"
We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Elba Palace and thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. We were aware from previous reviews that the hotel is removed from the town, for us this wasn't a problem, we used the courtesy bus, walked (took about 20 minutes to the edge of town) or got a taxi (cost about 6 euros) when we needed to go into the centre. We stayed on a half board basis, the breakfasts at the hotel were really good, help yourself to cava, an egg station and really good breads and pastries. Dinners were a little hit and miss, the service was a little erratic and the quality of the food varied, however we were on holiday and this was not an issue for us as the food was always served with a smile and the good meals far outweighed the bad, the steak was some of the best we have had in a hotel. Staff were all really friendly and helpful from reception staff to the staff who cleaned the rooms. Rooms were very clean although some did look a little tired. We enjoyed really relaxing days by the pool which was really quiet. Minerva in the gym offered pilates classes on weekdays, these were free to guests, we felt she was very proficient and she was always willing to try to change the time of the class for us if she could. We told her we were hiring a car for a day and she gave us really good recommendations of places to visit. We took advantage of the offer to eat at the Sheraton hotel and Chirinquita restaurant and really enjoyed our meals at both of these. The town is nothing to write home about, although the beach is lovely we felt it lacked character and were really pleased we had chosen to stay at Hotel Elba Palace. The moaners - well what can I say, there was a group of people who we felt were on a mission to get guests to complain to the management, this is a shame as we ended up trying to avoid them as we didn't want to hear so much negativity on holiday. My husband and friend played golf a few times which they really enjoyed despite losing several ball on, what was apparently, one tight hole.
"Another Great Holiday"
This was our 4th visit to this Hotel and we we were not disappointed. We really love this Hotel from the location to the friendliness of the Staff. We find the food here to be very good and there is also a great variety. We had a great room 103 with a balcony and sun Loungers which got the sun all day. We cannot comment on the golf course as we have never played it. Rooms are lovely and large and always kept clean. We look forward to returning next year and seeing Pilar and all her lovely staff
"A very good Hotel, but..........."
Just returned from 7 nights at the hotel, booked through Jet2.com Indulgent Escape Holidays. I've written the review to assist future travellers and offered 6x practical suggestions to consider when booking and/ or staying at the hotel. Firstly this is a very good hotel, in my opinion probably a 4 star plus, but not a 5 star property, which I will expand on below. We have stayed in many of Jet2.com's 5 star properties and this falls short of the rating in a number of areas. Secondly, I do not play golf so there is no reference to the golf facilities in this review. We (my wife and I, experienced world travellers, both fit, late 50s) booked a Prestige Suite which was a very spacious room #133 (see pics) which had a view overlooking the carpark at the front of the hotel. Pleasant but definitely nothing special. If you want a view of the golf course you must book a suite with a golf view! 1. The staff are generally very friendly and helpful (Mikka & Laura in the restaurant), although there are exceptions to every rule (but no names)! One immediate uplift in service would be to increase staffing numbers and therefore be able to merit the 5 star 'tag'. Especially relevant in the bar area where ordering and receiving after dinner drinks was very pedestrian. 2. The terrace area for breakfast is plagued with small black flies that bite, even though using locally bought insect repellant! This is also a problem around the pool area. The areas would benefit from some UV fly zapper equipment if only to reduce rather than eliminate the flies. 3. Wifi is very temperamental. In the reception and courtyard it was very reliable. In the bedroom and on the terrace area, not so. If wifi is important to you this might be an issue. It was a source of frustration whilst there for us, but I appreciate many folks go on holiday to forget about such things, sadly I'm in a business that can't do that. 4. The brochure claims the beach is 800m away, this is simply untrue. It might measure as the crow flies, but the walk, measured on a FitBit is closer to 1.4km, with an initial uphill and then a longer downhill to the resort centre. Well worth it but still a 30 minute walk. 5. The food is generally very good. the appetisers are plentiful, but need to be replenished more often. Guests shouldn't have to point out to staff that a certain dish needs to be replaced. Main courses are good but not great and this is definitely one area where I think the hotel is more like a 4 than a 5 star property. 6. Location, if you're here just for the golf this info probably doesn't matter. But the hotel is very isolated. There are no bars, restaurants, shops, even a small mini-mart nearby. The closest being down the hill in the resort centre approx 30 minutes away as mentioned. There are not any pleasant after dinner walks to enjoy, you are in the middle of an upmarket real estate of villas, mostly unlet or for sale. So overall, a good but not great hotel. We had a pleasant and relaxing stay. Would we return again, probably not given the above comments. I hope this review helps other people make an informed choice about their holiday destination, if you have any specific questions I'll happily respond if I can.
