Excellence Playa Mujeres Adults Only All Inclusive is located on the beach in Playa Mujeres, close to Playa Mujeres Golf Club and El Meco Archaeological Site.
Hotel was great. We had a room on first floor and I could hear people talking and service carts rolling by at all hours. If I went back I would stay on the top floor and request a more secluded area.Comment of C. Jason , United States the 2015-10-21

"Great All-Inclusive Mexican Resort with Private Beaches"
My boyfriend and I stayed here for five days. We booked the Excellence Club option, which comes with better in-room mini bar selections, access to a particular beach area with concierge, access to a club (though we never went because it was just a quiet bar with no view or liveliness), and a beach bag; did not see much other benefits apart from these. The resort has, I think, 10 restaurants. Our favorites were: The Grill for lunch, which has smaller portion sizes unlike the buffet options, which I liked; Chez Isabelle (French), which was the fanciest of the restaurants; and Flavor Market, which had Iberian ham included in the inclusive package, which was shocking. The service was pretty good, though I felt like we got less attention because my boyfriend and I were not as loud (e.g., the quiet couples go unnoticed). Hugo at the bar in the main building was awesome, and the beach was beautiful and secluded (as opposed to overrun with tourists and locals). The resort definitely caters to couples; I think I would feel out of place if I was not there as part of a couple. We also took advantage of the spa. The hydrotherapy option was... unusual' But the massage itself was relaxing. Overall, we really enjoyed how quiet and peaceful the resort was and will probably be back next year. Restaurants: - Spice (Asian) - So/so. To get the hibachi option, you had to book a reservation, which we did not do. The restaurant was hot, and with the hot food, I felt pretty uncomfortable while there. Sushi was not great, but I can be picky about sushi. - Chez Isabelle (French) - Definitely our favorite. Picture fancy French restaurant for no extra charge, romantic settings, and covered dishes. - Barcelona (Mediterranean) - Only stopped for a dish after trying to eat outside elsewhere but getting attacked by mosquitoes (despite the mosquito spray we put on that was available everywhere at the resort). Did not eat enough to really judge the food. - Toscana (Italian/Buffet) - We ate here for lunch only, which was a buffet (I think dinner was menu-only). The buffet was overwhelming with its options, but was still very good despite having so many options. - Flavor Market (Tapas) - Get the Iberian ham with a cheese plate and pan con tomate - feel like you are in Barcelona. - Basmati (Indian) - Never got to eat here, but smelled delicious when we walked by. - The Grill (Lunch) - The Grill was our favorite lunch spot, with a great view of the larger pool and the ocean. Portion sizes were smaller, which meant we could get an appetizer and entree and feel just right. - Lobster House (Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner) - We only ate here for breakfast and enjoyed it (though the view of the ocean certainly helped). In the same building as The Grill (took us awhile to figure that out). - Agave (Mexican) - We did not get to eat here, though I wish we had. We heard good things. - X Bar(') (Pizza) - Grab a pizza and take it to the beach or pool for a nice snack. They say there is beachside dining services for snacks, but we were never offered any (honestly, we did not get great beachside service, but others around us did so maybe we just weren't loud enough). - Aroma (Coffee/Sweets) - On the third floor of the main building, there is a nice cafe with ice cream, paletas, coffees, etc. Very nice if you have a sweet tooth. Cons: Coffee was not good. Our concierge experience was not great, even though we were heavy tippers. Mosquitoes (but not the resort's fault, and they had bug spray available everywhere). Beds were a bit hard for my taste. In the morning, the door did not keep sound out very well. Our "beach view" room had only a sliver of an ocean view, as it was blocked by a gazebo. Sent to three different places by concierges and staff to break a large bill to use as tips. When I asked for one of the fun drinks inside the hull of a fruit, I was told they could not be brought to the beach -- and then watched that same employee bring one to someone else on the beach. Despite advertising to the contrary, we were never offered snacks on the beach. Beach/pool service closes too early. My t-shirt loving bf did not love the dress code at the restaurants.
"Best Vacation EVER!"
To put this review in perspective....This was our fifth trip to EPM, and our seventh with the Excellence group- once at Excellence Riviera Cancun, and once at Finest. We have probably stayed at 20 AI resorts, and this was our third trip to Mexico since Christmas. We have been ruined for any other resort, forever. We have always LOVED EPM, and go home and book for the following year, every time, though we decided we couldn't wait that long this time, and have booked in the summer too. This trip was the most amazing, just when we didn't think it could ever get better. The resort is beautiful, and the food is wonderful, but it really is the people that make it superior to any other resort I could ever compare EPM to. We had a minor glitch with our booking at the beginning of our trip, and the wonderful management went over and above any expectations to make it up to us. From Arlen to the Guest Services Manager Carolina, and Manager Nelson, we were not only well taken care of, but treated like celebrities. Grisela was amazing in so many ways, and could also be an actress the way she played along with a surprise dinner for me that she helped coordinate with my husband. We had the most romantic dinner on the deck of our suite that we have ever experienced. The details were incredible- from playing our song on the stereo, to bringing in the chef from our favourite restaurant- Chez Isabelle ( Thank you Franscesco- We will never forget that incredible Lotus Flower dessert.), to the beautiful decor, amazing service AND the jazz player. Just, WOW. We would like to thank concierges Christian and Pedro from buildings 1 and the the Imperial Suite building, and the special servers we had in the restaurants- Mario from the Beach Dinner, Russell at Basmati, Jonathon, and Gambliel, and of course, Cesar from the martini bar. We were fortunate enough to spend some time with Cesar as he made us his own martini and drink concoctions, and though I was barely able to make it to dinner that night- ha,ha!, it will always be a special memory. The drinks were amazing, and we had a lot of fun. As usual, our favourite restaurants are Chez Isabelle ( wonderful!), and Basmati ( I think we ate there three nights this time.), and our new favourite is the tuna pizza at the wood fired pizza oven- delicious! We stayed in our usual roof top terrace suite which we love, but also spent the last part of our trip in the Imperial Suite, which was beyond incredible in every way. That was our first experience staying in the Excellence Club, and we really loved it. The only drawback was we would often take turns bringing drinks back to the rooftop of the Imperial Suite from the Excellence Club bar, and one bartender told us we weren't allowed to bring back more than two. Odd, for sure. We hadn't been told that previously. If time allows, I would recommend taking the ferry to Isla Mujeres and renting a golf cart to drive around. It is a lot of fun, though it is difficult to leave EPM for the day. Few people run/walk outside of the EPM gates, but they should take advantage of the beautiful and safe paved trail which runs along the golf course. There is lots to see, with beautiful flowers lining the path, iguanas, and you may get a glimpse of the crocodile in the lake too. There is a fun bike group which goes along the path as well. Even the security staff are pleasant and helpful, and would offer us water when we returned from our morning runs. Much appreciated. We are so looking forward to our next trip to EPM. It is a slice of heaven, and knowing it is in good hands with Carolina and Nelson, I know it will be just as wonderful.
"Love this place..."
Once again, trip number 4, we lived in paradise. Every need was met, every wish fulfilled and every single day was wonderful. This time the trip included my husband's brother and his wife. They were impressed as well. We ate, drank and did nothing but increase our amount of Vitamin D. We will be BACK!!
"Excellente! 2nd Visit"
We returned to EPM for a 2nd visit , we stayed the same time last year! This time we brought 4 friends with us to celebrate our anniversary and our friend Darren's 50th Birthday. Again we were not disappointed! All the staff and service were great, they couldn't do enough for us! A special thank you to Nelson the Food and Beverage Manager, he went out of his way to make sure every visit to the restaurants we received exceptional service! Also thank you Caesar and Hugo in the Martini Bar! Caesar works so hard you never have to wait long to receive your drink! Also thank you to Jacqueline the restaurant hostess, she is so lovely and remembered us from last year. All the waiters in the Grill and Lobster House who looked after us! All the staff work so hard and always greet you with a smile, nothing is too much for them. Needless to say our friends loved the hotel and all said they would return! Thank you EPM for a wonderful holiday and we can't wait to return
"OM-Azing Service in a Lush, Lovely Setting"
First timer to any all-inclusive resort not knowing what to expect. 1. Details of our accommodations: We booked a long weekend - Friday to Monday at the Excellence Club within the Excellence Playa Mujeres. Room 8454 which boasted a nice balcony with table and lounging bed, jetted tub that opens to the balcony, plus an upper deck with two lounging beds and a shallow jetted pool. 2. Transportation: Arranged with the recommended transport partner. They have options from a group van to a private SUV. This tour company also is the preferred vendor for tours if you arrange them at the resort. The benefit of having pre-arranged transport is that when you're accosted outside of baggage claim at Cancun airport by all of the time share and transport people, they leave you alone once you state where you're going and that you have transport. Literally like vultures - 4 different people came up to us. The SUV was clean, driver pleasant, and chatty, but not too chatty. Trip was around 35 minutes as traffic was relatively light. 3. The resort and check-in: We had to pass through two security checks to get onto the property and to the resort itself. Upon arrival, we were greeted with glasses of sparkling wine and escorted down to the Excellence Club (EC) Concierge. If you book a regular room, check in is right by the entrance where you're greeted. This is really where you get a taste for the level of service at the EC. We were walked through the map, special club privileges, and warmly welcomed. As our room was not ready, we were offered the opportunity to change so that we could visit the pool and leave our luggage with the bellhop. Once the room was ready, we were paged and escorted up. The bellhop walked us through the room's features. One special note - if you're celebrating something, prepare to have it recognized multiple times. My room was decorated for my birthday! 3. Food and Beverage Everything except bottles of wine is included for beverages. You never have to purchase anything if you don't want to. We had zero complaints about the selection overall. For dinner one evening, we did select a special bottle of wine. Prices average around $95 for a bottle. The food was wildly variable. We ate at The Lobster House and The Grill for lunches. Both were decent though Grill was our preferred of the two, Third day, we had the pool attendant, Veronica, bring us lunch. EC pools offer a limited menu - grilled wings, burger, quesadillas, and a couple more options. Actually ordered those three items and were not disappointed. For dinner, we tried The Grill (steaks), Adobe (Mexican), and Chez Isabelle (French). Of the three, the overall best was Chez Isabelle - appetizers, steaks, and wine were great. The wildly variable part was dessert and coffee. Creme brûlée and the chocolate "biscuit" were good. Apple tart was terrible. Coffee was not drinkable - it tasted/smelled like tea which tells me that they don't really rinse out the pot enough and use it for both. Service was superb - table even was decorated for my birthday. Adobe was fab top to bottom. Every dish was tasty and our waiter specially prepared the flaming cheese appetizer. Well worth the wait! Grill had great steaks and meh side dishes. Loved the chimichurri sauce though. Lots of bar options - too many for us to try them all, but they stocked a variety of liquor, dos Equis on tap, and wine. No complaints! The swim up bar at the main pool always seemed lively. 4. Pools and beach: There is a main pool with swim-up bar, tons of loungers, and is generally busy. As EC, we had options for private pools with our own concierge attendant and drink server. That was worth every penny!!! Ignacio was our intrepid concierge and he brought morning and afternoon snacks (fruits, a little drink, some creative fun). He was also at the ready with towels, changing towels on the loungers if they were wet, and anything you could ask. There was also a selection of games, magazines, and books from which to choose. Our drink server, Veronica, was awesome. She would anticipate when we wanted a drink and have it at the ready. She worked really hard and we went back to the same pool all three days because of them. Probably the biggest standout. We would also consider getting a first floor room with the walk-out balcony so that we could be on our bed lounger at the pool. Beach had loungers first come, first serve. Biggest challenge is how early people go to get one, so be ready!!! Not worth it to us to get up that early to get a spot at the beach. A quiet pool is perfect for me! Interestingly, by about 6 pm, the pools and hot tubs were deserted. They all close by 8 pm for nightly maintenance/servicing, 5. Other amenities There is a tour desk with numerous options if you want to venture out. Non-motorized water sports are available on the ocean (no charge), motorized sports (charge), plus there are different activities daily. You won't want for things to do. There were also different things happening at night, though if you're looking for a really party-intense atmosphere, this place is not that. It caters to couples. They also offer extras for a charge like dinner on the beach, private dinner at Chez Isabelle, and of course, spa treatments (charge). We received a hydrotherapy session free as EC guests. It's well worth it. EC lounge also offers a breakfast buffet and a bar. Never too busy, but always a few guests in there. So, my point of this long review is to be detailed since these are things I would want to know. We will DEFINITELY be back - we were so spoiled by the experience that I cannot wait to come for another long weekend - 4 or 5 nights.
