"Funky, but with big rooms"
This hotel's main asset is its proximity to the Summer Palace and Yuan Ming Yuan, the "old" summer palace destroyed in 1860 by Anglo-French forces. If your meetings are in Haidian, also very convenient. Otherwise it can take an hour from the city center to get out to the northwest quadrant of Beijing, due entirely to Beijing's awful traffic. There is virtually nothing around the hotel and the single hotel restaurant is a buffet that leaves food out for many hours and is only active at breakfast and lunch. By the evening locals in the know must avoid it -- the food is both overpriced and past its sell by date. There are various funky touches. A children's play area between the buffet restaurant and a bar. A queen's sized bed that sits in the middle of the lobby as part of a sales promotion for bedsheets, not the hotel itself. Hotel staff that have no way to get taxis other than the same taxi apps that everyone else in Beijing uses. The rooms are OK though the decor is garish. The one thing I liked a lot were the bed sheets, oddly. And the other thing was being able to get to the Summer Palace in 10 minutes. There is a big health center run by separate management as a club, with lots of equipment and a pool, but I didn't try it. The rooms had a very poor assortment of sockets for a business hotel, let alone one under the Sheraton brand.
"A Typical Sheraton Hotel."
The Four Points By Sheraton is a typical Sheraton hotel with all facilities. The rooms a large with our room having a queen size bed.It had a full bath and separate shower and western toilet. The breakfast area was very large with a good variety of western food, bacon and eggs been standard. This hotel is located about 45 mins drive from the Forbidden City which is some distance but if you want a good hotel in Beijing at the right price then you can expect to travel to all tourist destinations. The hotel is located straight across the road 2 blocks from Walmart and 10 mins walk to a large shopping mall( 2 blocks long) with the 5th floor all restaurants with a Pizza Hut.
"Exceed the usual Fourpoints standards"
If anyone is familiar with the SPG Fourpoints brand such as FP BKK Sukhumvit, FP Singapore, etc would know that it is usually a no frills minimal budget range hotel. So for anyone expecting a Sheraton standard is simply just being unrealistic. In terms of price this hotel is a fraction of the city centre St Regis, Westin, etc and is therefore extremely reasonable! For a Fourpoints, the existence of a lounge is already cause for celebration! But in all honesty it is actually not even half bad compared to the FP Shanghai Pudong which is really bare minimum. This lounge is greatly appointed with a nice variety of hotel Asian items, cut fruits and even sushi and dessert! SPG members know value for money when they see it! Come on 4,000 starpoints for a full one night redemption with free breakfast and lounge access'!' I used to tell the previous GM that his property is probably a Sheraton instead of a FP but it was a marketing strategy to brand it a FP as Sheraton would probably see higher rates and lower occupancy. Staff here is A THOUSAND MILES WAY BETTER than it’s neighbouring sister Aloft! Attentive, competent and really really so much much better! Anyone considering this area should consider FP and just avoid Aloft which is hardly a vision of W hotels unless it’s myopic or just shortsighted!
"Five Stars for Four Points"
After witnessing the rest of the toilet facilities around China, I was very, VERY thankful to have a great hotel to come back to at the end of the day! Had an enjoyable stay in a 3-person share room, the room was spacious enough for all of us and our luggage. The drawback would be that staff communication can be rather difficult if you don't speak the local language. But other than that, there really isn't anything I could find to complain about. They served a mix of western and local breakfast varieties, and still the best part of it all was how clean the bathrooms were (believe me, it's a blessing, I was appalled by the public toilet facilities in Beijing). There's a supermarket and a KFC within walking distance of the hotel, so it was pretty convenient. Would definitely consider coming back here to stay if I visit Beijing again.
"Quality no more - cutting corners everywhere "
I haven't had to stay at this hotel on business for a few years but recently stayed here expecting the same Sheraton brand standard it use to have. However I can say it's no more. It feels like a lower standard Chinese brand hotel except they've paid for the Four Points name on the sign. Paid ~$1200 recently for an executive room. Nothing executive about it. It's small and old looking. The AC system doesn't cool the room no matter how much you turn it down. For that price I would expect some daily fruit in your room. Rooms are clean however. Both my room and my colleagues room didn't have an iron, even though it had an ironing board. How can a business hotel not have an iron!! Calling room service to bring one took >15min, and it didn't work. Had to call again for a new one and waited another 10min. Either the house keeping is incompetent to check that there is no iron or more likely the hotel counts on not everyone needing one and cheats out by not stocking one in every room. Either way speaks to poor management. The lounge is a joke. Don't bother. Room service doesn't speak a word of English (wasn't like that a few years ago). Ordered fried rice from the menu, and it arrived with half the ingredients it claimed - missing anything green and no shrimp. Breakfast was the biggest surprise - it used to be a nice big spread of fairly high quality items. Now it's a few basic hot items and that's it. I would sum up my experience at the hotel as follows: it feels like someone made up some Four Points Sheraton signs/menus/etc. to make you think it's a Four Points but run/manage everything about it as a local hotel by cutting corners at every possible area to cut cost. Definitely never going to let anyone from my company stay here. Taking our business next time back to our usual.
