As return guests we were upgraded to a great room. We loved the hotel, the steam room was a pleasure at the end of a long day exploring. We especially enjoyed the excellent breakfast.Comment of C. Leigh , Australia the 2014-12-02

"Great hotel but small rooms"
The pool and breakfast are fantastic and the staff speaks good English. The small are very small and the bathrooms very basic. Staff is very friendly and is efficient. They are not enough sunbeds at the pool and people tend to go very early to "reserve" theirs.
Your first impression of the Galaxy is made all the better by their charming doormen. They really are exceptional and throughout our 6 night stay were helpful, pleasant and thoroughly professional. All staff are very pleasant, from check in to restaurant. They seem to make it their purpose to know you as an individual and not someone passing through. The hotel is very modern, not 5* by UK standards but pretty faultless. Rooms have all necessary. We had a superior ( basically, there is nothing lower than that!) with fridge and - on request - tea/coffee making facilities. You can also request a DVD player if you plan to crash one evening but the hotel do not supply the DVDs Prewarned we took extra hangers with us as few are supplied. Also there are no drawers in the room bar one narrow desk type. So if you are a couple, staying for some time & take the kitchen sink you make have a problem. We didn't eat in the evenings at the hotel but breakfasts are amazing. Full compliments to the chef, exquisite offerings and huge varieties. We went mid-late June and found the pool bathed in sun until 6pm. Others say that later in year it is in gloom. With the heat you may prefer that anyway.. it's only a smallish area and loungers/chairs do fill up. The hotel supplies towels, discreetly left on the chair once the waiter knows you have arrived. All in all we loved our time at the Galaxy and would recommend to all our friends The one big let down for us was their lack of support at a stressful time. I stupidly left my IPhone 7 on a bus to Knossos. Put yourself in my shoes, that is one ruined holiday with a lot of hassle ahead. Who to turn to to find numbers for bus co etc' Surely the hotel' Well my husband rang them & explained we really needed some help here, could they ring bus depot etc. 'Yes yes'. Heard nothing. Got superb support from another bus driver who located phone for us. When we returned to the hotel the receptionist didn't even remember our call! So admit to feeling pretty sour on that one but won't let it spoil a good holiday
"Exceptional employees and facilities "
Possibly the best hotel staff that I have met along my travels: courteous, quick to respond to requests and everyone looked happy to be working there. So nice to see. The facilities were excellent -- loved the pool -- and breakfast did not disappoint with plenty of items for vegetarians and some specialty dishes that rotated on a day-to-day basis that were Greek and delicious. I recommend to take a room with a pool-side view, as it was nice and quiet at night. It is a 10-minute walk from the city centre and a bit further to the port, but I liked that it was ever-so-slightly outside of the busy centre. Even still, there was a grocery store and other stores nearby if you were feeling too relaxed to walk into town that day.
"Friendly and clean, with a touch of class, one of the best in Heraklion, but it's a touch expensive."
The area is a bit untidy, on a main road into downtown Iraklio, but only 10 mins walk down the hill to the main shopping and cafe areas. The hotel itself is VERY nice, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel is built as a horseshoe shape, on a street corner, and encircling the lovely clean pool. We swam there until after 6pm and it's a real sun trap, still some parts of the pool sunny until about 6:30pm. Breakfasts are a wonderfully varied experience, I have never seen such a wide choice, and of course the dining room looks out over the pool, with some open terrace tables. One or two mentions from the locals about our hotel were always positive. One curious downside to the bathroom is no means of plugging the basin to fill it. We had a handyman up to fix it and he ended up doing a real Heath-Robinson solution for us. Must accept he was helpful but the end result was not practical. DVD player and kettle/cups/tea bags etc are available on request. Exterior rooms are called "superior" and are cheaper than the "executive" ones that face inwards to the pool, but the so called city view can be a bit scruffy. Our 'Superior' room was on the floor above reception and perfectly quiet enough if the balcony door was kept closed. We chose to leave open at night but traffic or noise from the adjacent pizza bar sometimes intruded too much. Balconies are narrow, but there is just room for a couple of chairs and table, which they will also provide on request. They allowed us to smoke on the balcony provided the room door was shut. The room itself was fine, size OK. Bathroom has shower cubicle, no bath. As a tip when walking down to town, bear left through the cool and tree shaded park, and this also cuts off a corner to reach Freedom Square, the edge of town.
