Sehr schönes Hotel - sehr gute Kombination von alten und neuen Elementen - sehr stylisch - extrem freundliches Personal - tolle Aussicht auf Istanbul beim Frühstück auf der Terrasse - sehr gute Betten / BettwäscheComment of W. Fritz, Austria the 2015-03-27
Loved this hotel! Only comment on the bathroom is that the water leaked from the shower which made the floor soaking wet. We stayed in room 17 the first two nights and the isolation was great, moved up to room 21 where the isolation wasn't that great due to the restaurant. All and all we loved to stay at this hotel!Comment of W. Charlotte, Sweden the 2015-03-26
We spent 4 nights here and glad we did! Outstanding restaurant views. Staff was great. Our room had an incredible view and loved the decor! Its situated in the Galata part of Istanbul. You can walk around see attractions and great restaurants.
"Only place we will stay in Istanbul!"
This is the second time we have stayed at Georges and it is our favorite home away from home in the world! The location is perfect: a lively part of town steps away from the Galata tower and Istiklal, but quiet and serene on a small side street. Although we enjoyed visiting the old city with its amazing monuments, it was such a relief to return to Georges at the end of each day in its more hip yet authentic neighborhood. We stayed in the Bosphorus Suite both times. On the 4th floor, this spectacular room has a stunning sea view, a large balcony with a small breakfast table and outdoor lounging sofa, a very comfortable bed and separate seating area. The rooftop terrace used to have a restaurant that was open all day from breakfast through dinner but now it is only basically a bar that opens at 4pm. This change from our first visit in 2015 was a bit of a shame but it is still a lovely place to have a cold drink in the afternoon or evening with its view of the Bosphorus and the old city. Breakfast is now brought to the rooms as a separate paid service and the choices are delicious and filling. The most important aspect of the Georges Hotel is the quality of its staff. Everyone at the reception was so helpful and courteous. However, we must give a special shout out to Çem. He truly went above and beyond, with his cheerful manner and thoughtful suggestions. Most significantly, when our family had some difficulties with another business, Çem took hours out of his free time to call and personally visit the place to help us work out the situation. We are forever grateful. There is really nothing to complain about in this establishment. Yes, the wifi can be slow and they do charge for the coffee pods in the room but considering the incredible beauty and great value of the hotel, these are tiny inconveniences that in no way diminish our appreciation.
"When I return to Istanbul, Ill only be staying here."
There are a LOT of really amazing things to discuss about this hotel! We stayed in room 16 which was a sea view deluxe room. It was exactly as advertised and a really great place to return to after a day of sight seeing. The sofa balcony was the sight of of quite a few afternoon naps! The shower was refreshing and the bed was very comfortable! The lights never got very bright, but after a day or so you almost appreciate it as part of the ambiance of the room and hotel. The location of the hotel simply couldnt be better. Half a block from Galata tower and a couple blocks from Istiklal street make it right in the center of tons of shops and restaurants no matter which way you go. Its also just a few minute walk to the tram stations. Just be prepared to to do some uphill walking! The bar upstairs has a beautiful view of the city and is a must if youre staying in the hotel. It doesnt open until 4pm and the kitchen opens at 6pm. My only experience at the bar wasnt all that good actually. The guys serving werent really interested in helping us which made it frustrating and I found it to be pretty expensive. Friday and Saturday nights they have a DJ and its pretty heavy club music. I was worried that we would be kept up by the music, but our room was very quiet even with the music one floor up. Last but certainly not least was the staff. From reservation to check out the staff was impeccable. They were very responsive to my emailed questions prior to my arrival, sent extra photos, and settled any concerns i had before arriving. We arrived very late at night and they were there ready to get us in our room as expected. They answered our every need from a bucket of ice, beer delivery, bar recommendations, taxi services, airport transfers, and even helped us get some electronics shipped home due to the electronics ban. Our room was cleaned every day and around our schedule. The hotel in general was clean well kept, dark and mysterious, and a place that I hope to return to some day soon. Thanks for a great stay Georges Hotel Galata!!
"Hip hotel in a hip part of town"
Right now you can pretty much stay in any hotel in Turkey for insanely low prices. Even the Four Seasons was $230 a night when we booked Georges. After walking by the Ritz Carlton downtown on our fourth day in Istanbul, I really came to appreciate Georges. Contrary to some of the larger hotels, it's in a trendy fun part of town with a lot of cool cafes and bars. It has great proximity to all of Istanbul's sights, and seeing as it's right next to Galata tower. The hotel definitely has been carefully designed to present a certain vibe, it always felt good to come home. Being next to a tall famous landmark means it's incredibly easy to get back to your hotel no matter where you end up. Our room was modern and well designed. I appreciated the detail and tiling in the bathroom, which had an all glass exterior with blinds for privacy. We got a room with a balcony. Get a room with a balcony! The views were amazing and it was great to be able to drink coffee and have breakfast on it in the mornings. Every day you have the option of getting artisanal cheeses from around Turkey delivered to your room for breakfast. We did it once and it was amazing, see attached picture. There's a bar upstairs that serves a couple of plates if you're looking for dinner. Word to the wise: the dinner service stops around 9-930 with no warning and the menu remains at the bar. If you're planning on eating there, make sure you find out what time the kitchen closes as we'd ordered a drink thinking we'd enjoy it before dinner only to find out that dinner was no longer being served. My wife and I live in Brooklyn and enjoy our share of cocktails. I was pleasantly surprised to find a great cocktail list at this restaurant and enjoyed a couple of delicious beverages. If you don't book a room with a balcony, this bar is a great way to enjoy the great view that the hotel offers. Given that there's four or so dishes on the menu and the restaurant closes early, I'd recommend eating elsewhere. Which leads me to the front desk staff who were very happy to help find us places to eat, book tickets to cultural events and get us taxis to the airport. After we were too late to eat at the bar our first night, the front desk graciously helped us find a restaurant we'd enjoy and made the reservation. They even offered to get us a car home. This isn't the kind of hotel with a million tourist flyers in the main lobby, but if you have a good sense of what you want to do and where you want to go, they'll be more than happy to help and offer suggestions. I'd like to give Georges 4 1/2 stars but trip advisor won't allow it. I think they could make some additions to the menu in the bar. Options like a cheese plate and a couple of appetizers would have been appreciated as we started our evening. Overall that's a very minor complaint with so many great places to eat in such close proximity. If I ever go back to Istanbul, I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Highly recommended
"Wonderful stay in the lively heart of Istanbul"
I had a wonderful stay at the Georges Hotel Galata! The whole staff was very friendly and accommodating. They helped me book cars, schedule tourist activities and even gave me directions for how to get EVERYWHERE! Onur, their front desk person was especially friendly! He let me do a late checkout since my flight leaves in the evening and was kind enough to watch my bags while I explored the city. The location was perfect. Perfect proximity to all the main areas--I didn't even need to use the transit card I bought because I could walk everywhere. The neighborhood has a lot of shops and bars so it was perfect if you're traveling alone. In all, i had a wonderful stay. Special shoutout to Onur for being the friendliest and most helpful person!
