Booked last minute room last week, and paid for upgrade to Oceanfront King.AMAZING massive Balcony -360 degree views. Property is new ,immaculate and crisp. It's sister property is exact same one on mid beach. Just be quiet because its in residential tower high rise area so pools close AT 7 PM. No loud music, its not a scene place. Filled with friendly foriegners and families, it 's definitely not singles action. But it is relaxing and so nice. Your suite comes with free 2 chairs, towels and 2 free beach umbrellas (other hotels charge for these). Its nice to have this. Valet parking is $50/night, just Uber, car is a ripoff to park. Bal Harrbor is across street if you want to blow a few thou. I like it and will come back, thinking on-season rates will be sky high as families pack in the kiddies over Christmas.
"Nice hotel, but dirty rooms"
We took a long-weekend vacation down to Miami for the 4th of July Holiday. The Grand Beach Hotel Surfside checked all the boxes: beach location, room overlooking the beach, pool, restaurant on site, close to shopping/restaurants, 2 bathrooms in each suite, stylish decor, etc. Unfortunately, the room itself had several issues. Even after reporting the issues, some were not properly addressed. The room was 761 and on the first night we discovered food particles on the floor near the couch (looks like someone ate a taco and housecleaning never cleaned up after), stains on the walls, the front bathroom toilet seat had red (blood') stains all over it and the main bathroom shower leaked water on to the floor. The shower leak was fixed the next day and housekeeping was supposed to address the toilet and dirt issues, but only the food on the floor was fixed. I asked for a room change and was told that wouldn't be possible. I was hoping they would promptly address our concerns, but it was clear management didn't care or training is missing on how to run a "luxury resort". Disappointing. I called again and nothing was done, so we just avoided the front bathroom and only used the room to sleep/clean up. Management needs to work on processes dealing with customer concerns. The on-site gym is relatively large, but the equipment is old and needs repairs. This could be a great hotel if management worked on training staff and implemented policies more focused on providing exceptional customer service.
"A few flaws"
Just checked out. We got to our room at 11:50 and the room was already locked. Not acceptable. Check out is at 12:00pm. They do not give complimentary late check out even though we've been seating in the lobby for over an hour and there is no one waiting to check in. First time we've been at a hotel in the US with no late check out policy. The hotel is not full either. You can tell from the number of guests at the beach and pool. Food and beverages are overpriced. A mediocre margarita 19.05! A hot dog 18! We had to call three times for housekeeping yesterday. A lady finally came at around 8 pm to change the towels. Room was clean and very nice. The staff at the beach were awesome, not the front desk or the bar staff. The umbrellas and chairs are picked up at 6:00 pm. They set them after 10 am. The hotel should allow for a longer period specially during summer. Sunset in Miami is after 8pm.
"Beautiful hotel but dirty room and way overpriced"
The grounds are gorgeous, location is great, but very overpriced between valet parking and resort fees and room. We discovered after getting settled in the room had not been vacuumed, dusted, and toilet was dirty. Very crowded and 1 elevator down all day. Would not return.
"Pre Auth 2 months in advance!"
Be advised, they will preauth your card months in advance without explanation if you have a debit card. I planned a group trip, where people were chipping in for the room through booking.com where it stated that no prepayment was needed and then 2 months before I was set to arrive i was charged $450 to "verify" my card. Ive stayed a numerous hotels and haven't ever had someone authorize my card until I arrive, definitely not two months in advance. They were rude and dismissive when i spoke to them and it took a whole weekend to get in touch with someone because they wouldn't answer the phone. I plan to report them to the BBB because what they did and how they handled the situation was completely unprofessional.
