"The Best in Milan"
The Grand Old Hotel in Milan. The service is excellent and friendly. They let us check in very early, superb rooms and bathroom. Service is excellent. Just the best. The bar is great for a drink and a night cap. Well located with walking distance to all the major tourist sites.
"Grande Dame of Milan"
Great location near La Scala and the Duomo. Perfectly positioned for Montenapoleone and via Della Spiga. One of the oldest hotels in Milan but still the Grande Dame! Exemplary old style service. The rooms are all different but of a high standard.
"Pleasant old hotel"
This hotel served as the winter home of Verdi in the last 30 years of his life and died there. It has the gracious quality that must have been over a century ago. Though we were on the 4th floor, the room facing Via Manzoni could have been quieter. The first night construction across the street started at 3:30 am. The staff were very helpful. Breakfast were wonderful.
"My kind of place!"
Opened in 1863, this hotel is still among the top ones in the City, thanks to its superb location, near the Opera House and the Duomo, a nice job of classical updating and a friendly, capable staff. It was a great way to start my tour of Northern Italy. Its restaurant, Don Carlos, is superb. I had veal dishes at four different luxury hotel restaurants during my trip and the veal loin here topped them all.
"Good for Milan"
I think this hotel was great before the Park Hyatts and Mandarin Orientals popped up throughout the city. The location is really the drawing factor here. It has an old-school feel which also is fun for Milan rather than the modern hotels mentioned above. With that, though, comes older style, typically small rooms. We had a pretty bad room located in an attic-type setting with a slanted roof. Not really a feeling of luxury. We were only there one night so it was fine, but for longer it was very tiny. We didn't have any drinks or food in the hotel, so I can't rate that! It was all ok for one night, but not sure I'd run to stay again.
