"A conference hotel in need of a brush up"
This hotel is just adjacent to the Kyoto conference center in the northern part of the city. Plus is the location (if you are attending a congress) but the minuses dominate. The carpets have a strange smell, the view is not particularly stimulating, and the place is a bit off from the city. Internet is uneven. The Western style breakfast restaurant is no hit, whereas the Japanese breakfast part is a better choice. But I would rather chose a more centrally located hotel than this one, and use the subway which goes all the way out to the conference center.
"A grand hotel, but mixed feeling"
Used this Hotel as a stopover on a journey further westward. Usually we use the Nikko Princess when we stay in Kyoto but as they said the hotel is renewed and offered a special plan for Prince Hotels membership partners, we decided to try it. We were traveling by car and unexpectedly we arrived around noon, and far beyond the check in time so we just wanted to drop off our luggage and go somewhere. Upon arrival we were surprised to see that no one was at the hotel entrance and looked as though it was closed. Finally we caught one staff to guide us to the reception only to be informed that check-in time is 2 o’clock. That’s all, we know that! So we just left with our luggage to kill time. It seems they cater mainly to tour groups (mainly Chinese') who check-in in the evening hours. Location is far from the center of Kyoto and very quiet (rather remote but a short train ride will take you to Shijo- Kawaramachi). The new room was comfortable, clean and well situated. But we found the bath and toilet to be very cramped compared to the size of the room itself. Restaurant was good and dinner was tasty. Good and reasonable breakfast as long you take it at the main dinning room. The Buffet in the underground floor is for tour groups (mainly Chinese'). Very crowed and uncomfortable. All in all, our stay was comfortable. But mixed feeling to stay again.
"A great retreat after a busy day exploring Kyoto"
We stayed here for 4 nights this past April 2017 as part of our honeymoon. The staff was kind enough to upgrade us to a huge newly-renovated room as a congratulations, and we really appreciated it. The room was fantastic, clean, and quiet. The location, for us, was perfect. A short walk to the subway line, and we could go explore Kyoto. The hotel was far enough from the busyness of the city that it felt like a quiet little retreat at the end of the day, when we made our way back. The hotel is very clean, the staff were friendly, and the food at the buffet was top-notch (a nice mix of Japanese and Western foods at a reasonable price). This hotel is a great place to use as a jumping off point for your Kyoto explorations, while providing you a calm place to relax after a day of exploring.
"Lovely if a little remote"
The hotel is excellent by Japanese standards! It is circular and all rooms look out. It is a little isolated but there is a train station very close. You can do some lovely walks in the area. The bathroom was of a high standard and had good quality and plentiful toiletries. The breakfast was also very good even though we had to wait to be seated on our first day. Probably one of the best hotels we have stayed in in Japan .
We stayed at the hotel for 4 nights. The location is outside the center, but there is a subway station near the hotel, a 5-minute walk away. The hotel is of a high standard, large room, huge bed, bath and shower. Coffee machine with capsules. Very clean. The hotel is round and all rooms face the view. Excellent service . Good value. Recommended.
