"4*''' More like 1*"
Location: superb The 4* rating is a gross misrepresentation of this hotel. The dilapidated, grubby and unclean state of the interior of this hotel more represents a 1* rating. We cannot comment of the restaurant/breakfast as due to the state of our room we chose not to eat here. Once we accessed our room my husband IMMEDIATELY asked at reception if we could change room to be told “all rooms are in the same condition”. When my husband questioned the 4* rating we were told “the rating was given 4 1/2 years ago when the hotel was refurbished” and “the management didn’t want to spend money on the hotel”. Location alone is not enough for * ratings. Apparently hotels are reviewed every 5 years so they will definitely loose its 4* rating soon! Because we didn’t access our room till 2pm it was too late to move and at £400 to change to another hotel we took the view that it was only 1 night. If you are used to nice clean 4* hotels you will be disappointed if you stay here. Couldn’t leave this hotel quick enough!
"Nice, well-run if modest hotel"
Unpretentious but well-managed hoel, in an excellent location. Wifi and breakfast more than acceptable, service polite and competent. Don’t expect 5-star amenities in an economy hotel and some of the hardware is a bit mature, but for the price this is excellent value!
"Worst Hotel we stayed at in France"
Me and my wife toured the beautiful France and stayed at Grand Tonic Hotel in Marseilles. Although it's at a good location it's a run down Hotel from hallways to the room. This is more of a 2-3 star hotel not 4. Our towels had stain marks on them and the walls, chairs were filthy. I would not recommend this Hotel to anyone unless you only care about location. Be sure to get a good price and don't be fooled by the star rating.
"A great value, brilliantly located, nice hotel in Marseille's Old Port"
My family stayed in the Grand Tonic hotel for one night as we were only visiting Marseille for one day and wanted to be close to the Old Port and the Old Town (which are essentially next to each other). This hotel was exceptionally good value; we had a lovely room with a view over the fish market and old port; the service was excellent although we needed very little; and it is a brilliantly located hotel, right on the old port front, near everything that we wanted to see or walk around. We did not eat a meal at the hotel and so have no view on their food....but it gave us everything we were seeking at an exceptionally good price for a family.
"Will do it"
Date of visit: 06/06/2017 to 08/06/2017 We didn't try the restaurant or breakfast so I can't speak for this part but the room we had was average, nothing breahtaking and the jacuzzi function in the bathroom was broken. Anyway, when I travel, I don't need fancy room, I'm here to visit not to stay the whole day in the hotel so I just need clean linen, good bed and quietness (which was the case) Staff was nice and the hotel is well situated (view on Marseille's old port) so it's very convenient to visit all touristic places. Hope it helps
