"Good deals, Finnish design and a pleasant stay"
I've stayed at Hotel Helka couple of times. The first time was amazing, and the second was good, but I guess my expectations were too high. The room at my second time was a little shabby, but then again the hotel is advertising that they are renewing the place. I enjoyed the breakfast. All in all, I'll definitely stay at Helka in the future too.
"Comfortable, well-situated hotel"
Not far at all from the centre but far enough to be nice and quiet, this hotel makes for an easy walk into town. Friendly staff (although the new self-check in option means you basically don't have to interact with anyone if you don't want to!) and decent prices all told. Three of us shared a suite, which has a large double/queen bed and a separate sofa bed, as well as its own sauna. The room we were in (502 if I remember rightly) wasn't in the best of shape and needs a bit of a renovation; the bathroom certainly needs some TLC, and the sofa bed was impossible to fold back into a sofa. The placement of the TV wasn't the best considering the sofa was in a separate room by itself, to all intents and purposes. The double/queen bed was very comfortable though, and the toiletries were very nice. The buffet breakfast had something for everyone, and the way it is spread out around the restaurant means few problems with too many people in one small area - although this still occurred near the warm food, which is placed right next to one of the main throughways right opposite the tea and coffee. Good tea, but the reconstituted juice wasn't. Otherwise the breakfast was good.
"Nice hotel with perfect location"
It's a really pleasant place: I've given it a four just because some furniture needs renovation. The room was not too big but it had all you need to feel at home. The staff was perfect: they did all their best to make our stay comfortable. As for breakfast the choice of dishes was sufficient but I would prefer to have all of them in one place instead of walking around the place looking for water or cheese. It's a waste of time and gets on nerves indeed. A few words about the parking: the hotel has its own private parking in the yard and one can enjoy it at 20 euro per day. But you should take into consideration that the space there is limited and if your car is big it may be quite a torture to park it.
After searching for a while I found a good deal at hotel Helka and decided to book for two nights,29th and 30th April 2017,we paid 204 euro for a double with breakfast. The room is compact but the room is adequate for a city break. The location is ideal,15 min walk up from Central station. There are several bars and eateries nearby,as well as Kampi shopping center and the rock church.Checking in was fast and efficient, the room was clean and the beds were so comfortable,we really slept well. The shower is hot and powerful, with great lemongrass aromaterapy shower gel provided.I used the sauna on the last day,it was super clean and it is a great free service.Wifi was super fast but on unsecure network. They did not clean the room for two days, some new towels would have been nice(we left them on the floor)which was the only bad point.Breakfast was included and plentiful, with some amazing poached salmon ,herrings, local ham and crispy bacon.Coffee and juices are organic. We booked an additional 2 nights and we did not have to change rooms which was convenient! They provide a lot of other free services like an ironing room, luggage room, computer and printer ,free fruity water at reception,tea/coffee facilities in the room...Overall I would be very happy to come back.
The hotel is located within 15 minutes walk from the station, you can pay on departure. The room was for two but there was another sofa for watching TV and sauna. Breakfast was very poor (a glass of juice and a croissant and that`s all). You could find cheaper one with a good breakfast
