"Perfect overnight stay pre-Amsterdam Marathon - exactly what this runner wanted!"
I only stayed one evening at Hilton Amsterdam because I wanted an overnight stay since I was taking part in the TCS Amsterdam Marathon on 15 October, 2017. It was perfect for all my needs. It was important that I had a quiet room and, after an initial room change, they were able to find me a wonderfully quiet room on the 9th floor. The view was gorgeous. The hotel was very busy – many other runners were staying there – but I never got the sense that the staff were too busy to care. On the contrary, they were incredibly helpful and understanding, efficient and took time and an interest in having a conversation, asking about the marathon etc Whilst I didn’t have the breakfast, the hotel was clearly set up for catering for the needs of all the runners – an early breakfast had been arranged and staff gave out information about the event to those runners checking in. I was also permitted to check out slightly later so that I could have a shower and collect myself, after the marathon, before driving home - thank you Hilton Amsterdam, that made such a difference, it was a real comfort and shows real understanding of the needs of your guests. The room was clean and the bed and pillows very comfortable. There were one or two traces of the rooms maybe needing a little renovation but really only slight. The bathroom was lovely – so nice to have the choice of a bath or a shower. The comfort and care and sense of luxury throughout the hotel greatly outweighs any minor scuffs and scratches! Wifi is free and reliable. There is a vast selection of TV channels, catering for many languages but the Wifi is strong enough, should you want to watch Netflix. If I was forced to make one small criticism, it would be that I was surprised that, in a hotel of this quality, and the room in which I was staying, there are no Nespresso machines. This is pretty much standard in 4 star and 5 star hotels. The location of the hotel is great for Amsterdam. I know the area well, living as I do in the Netherlands and going to Amsterdam frequently and it’s perfect for seeing the major venues in south Amsterdam – you can easily walk there. There are also shops, such as AH and Ekoplaza supermarkets, Etos etc within 20 minutes’ walk. What really makes this hotel superb is how kind, helpful and pragmatic the staff are - those on reception were superb during my stay - alongside the comfort and quiet and calm in the room and throughout the hotel. It was definitely the right place to stay for pre- and post-marathon!
I had a great stay at this hotel last week. The staff is amazing and always make you feel welcome. I love the rooms and the canal views. The restaurant served breakfast with a lot of different choices. I can't wait to come back!
This is an amazing hotel. It was so good that we couldn't believe that it was a Hilton. It was that good. The restaurant was 4 stars and the bar was warm, comfortable and inviting. This is an excpetional hotel that is within walking distance of so much of Amsterdam. We had a great time and we can't wait to return.
"A Wonderful Long Weekend"
We were at the Amsterdam Hilton (yes, I know it’s really the Hilton Amsterdam, but I can’t stop myself using the version from the song!) at the end of September for a long weekend. This was our second visit, the previous one having been about a year ago. For a 1960s building, it is very pleasant, with simply lovely views, especially if you are on the canal side. Everything is exceptionally well-maintained and clean, as you would expect. However, the building and its facilities are only a small part of this hotel’s appeal. The real winner for me are the wonderful staff. The receptionist spotted immediately that we’d been before, so gave us a genuine “welcome back”, and that was just the beginning. Everyone we encountered was warm, welcoming and friendly: the bar staff, concierge, housekeeping and breakfast-room staff. They really are the heart of this hotel and many other Hiltons could learn from them. On top of all that, because I’d asked if we could see the Van Gogh suite, we were given the most amazing upgrade and spent the weekend in there. If you’re a Van Gogh admirer, don’t miss that suite! Having stayed in a great many Hilton hotels around Europe, I’d have to say that the Amsterdam Hilton is my favourite, and not just because of the complimentary upgrade.
"Comfort and location good, service slow."
Long weekend for a special birthday. Very helpful check-in staff. Usual high standard in the rooms. We took the exec. option, which meant access to breakfast, limited drinks during the day, and alcoholic drinks and good snacks in the evening. The exec lounge is small, on the roof top, so good views. You may have to wait for a table. The location is quiet, but not far from major attractions and alternative dining. Try the Restaurant Blauw for a rijstafel. Excellent. On return from dining out, we would go for a night cap in the bar. Service very slow. Likewise lunch on the patio took ages. An apple and spinach salad was a massive heap of leaves and a few slices of apple. Disappointing, and expensive.
